Beltway Amateur, Pro Cards Postponed!

The developments concerning the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has caused havoc throughout the entire sports world.  Cancellations have run rampant and boxing is not immune from this, especially in the Beltway.

Both events slated for the weekend of March 13-14 have been postponed due to the virus that has paralyzed most of the nation and the world.

The Washington Golden Gloves semifinals scheduled to be held on Friday, March 13th at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD are postponed due to an edict from USA Boxing.  Here is part of the announcement from USA Boxing:

"In light of recent developments with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and after extensive consultation with the USOPC (United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee), medical experts, legal counsel and Board of Directors President Chair, Tyson Lee, USA Boxing is suspending all sanctioned events through March 31st.  This is a very difficult decision given we are in the midst of Golden Gloves tournaments and entering the qualification timeframe for the 2020 Junior Olympics; however, USA Boxing’s greatest concern is for the health and safety of all boxers, coaches, officials, and physicians.

USA Boxing will review as circumstances evolve and more information becomes available and provide an update to membership by the end of March.

All events will be able to reschedule their shows at later dates. USA Boxing will not accept any new sanctioned event requests through at least April 15th. Refunds will not be given at this time, but you may reschedule your show for a later date.

Clubs and Gyms may continue training, however, they should limit participation to boxers and coaches, and discourage folks who “want to watch” to help reduce the risk of spreading the Coronavirus.

As far as the Beltway is concerned, this also means that the Virginia/North Carolina Golden Gloves Championships that were scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 20th and 21st, are also postponed.  The directors of the Washington Golden Gloves want to emphasize that, once the suspension on events is lifted, the event will be held.

Now, let's turn to the TGB Promotions card that was slated to take place at MGM National Harbor Casino in Oxon Hill, MD on Saturday, March 14th.  That card has also been postponed.  The card was to feature a number of Beltway Boxers including Cobia Breedy, Drayvontay Speed Rawls, Tyrek Irby, Cornell Hines, and Aaron Anderson.  The main event was a 10-round bout between James Kirkland and Mark Anthony Hernandez.

Here is the statement from TGB Promotions in a press release:

Due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19, this Saturday’s Premier Boxing Champions event at MGM National Harbor in Maryland, headlined by James Kirkland vs. Marcos Hernandez and promoted by TGB Promotions, will be postponed until a later date.

“In the interest of public health and after reviewing the current information on COVID-19, we have decided the best course of action is to postpone Saturday’s event,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “We understand how disappointing this is to boxing fans and regret any inconvenience.”

All ticket orders will be refunded from your original point of purchase. If you have purchased online through Ticketmaster, all orders will be refunded automatically. If you have purchased with a credit card on the property or over the phone with MGM Resorts, all orders will be refunded automatically.

March 14th MGM Card Is Complete!

The TGB Promotions card slated for Saturday, March 14th at MGM National Harbor Casino in Oxon Hill, MD is now complete.  There will be five Beltway Boxers on the card and one of them will be on the FS1 telecast, beginning at 8 PM ET.

Undefeated Hyattsville, MD featherweight Cobia "The Soldier" Breedy will be in a 10-round contest against Eugene "Rambo" Lagos of Valencia City, Bukidnon, Philippines.  Breedy (15-0, five KO's) is coming off a six-round TKO victory over Titus Williams on December 7th in Brooklyn, NY.  Lagos (16-5-3, 11 KO's) scored a first-round TKO over Michael Padayag on April 5th in Malaybalay, Philippines.  This is the bout that will begin the FS1 telecast.

Glenarden, MD lightweight Drayvontay Speed Rawls will be in an eight-round encounter against Clay "3rd Degree" Burns of Fort Worth, TX.  Speed Rawls (13-1-1, eight KO's) last fought on November 2nd at the MGM National Harbor Casino and won an eight-round unanimous decision over Wanzell Ellison.  Burns (9-7-2, four KO's) broke a two-bout losing streak by winning a six-round unanimous decision over Dartrell Smith on February 8th in Opelousas, LA.  This will be the second Beltway Boxer that Burns has faced.  He lost an eight-round unanimous decision to Patrick Harris in January of 2019 in Brooklyn.

In an all-Beltway six-round bout, undefeated Landover, MD welterweight Tyrek "I.G.B." Irby will take on once-beaten Cornell "Hitman" Hines of Washington, DC. Irby (9-0, three KO's) fought on the November 2nd card at MGM National Harbor Casino and won an eight-round unanimous decision over Joaquin Chavez.  Hines (5-1, two KO's) looks to bounce back from his first pro loss, a six-round unanimous decision defeat to Eben Vargas on August 30th in Pasadena, CA.

Baltimore, MD welterweight Aaron Anderson will compete in a six-round bout against Jose "Rated R" Carlos Rivera of Manchester, CT.  Anderson (6-0, four KO's) won a six-round unanimous decision over Akeem Black on August 31st in Minneapolis, MN.  Rivera (8-4-1, five KO's) battled Richard Acevedo to a six-round draw on August 22nd in Indio, CA.

Baltimore female super featherweight Mia "Killer Bee" Ellis will be in a four-round contest against Mikenna Tansley of Alberta, Canada.  Ellis (1-0, one KO) made a successful pro debut scoring a first-round TKO over Uneaka Best on December 28th in Atlanta, GA.  Tansley (3-0, one KO) comes off a four-round unanimous decision victory over Ana Ruth Castro on December 6th in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The rest of the card looks like this:  The main event will be a 10-round contest between San Antonio, TX super welterweight "The Mandingo Warrior" James Kirkland and Mark Anthony "Madman" Hernandez of Fresno, CA.  Kirkland (34-2, 30 KO's) comes off a second-round knockout win over Jas Phipps on November 9th in San Antonio.  Hernandez (14-3-1, three KO's) lost an eight-round unanimous decision to Kevin Newman II in his last outing on November 1st in Las Vegas, NV.

The co-feature has undefeated Oxnard, CA welterweight Eimantas Stanionis battle "The Chosen One" Justin DeLoach of Augusta, GA in a 10-round bout. Stanionis, a native of Lithuania (10-0, seven KO's), scored a third-round knockout over Julio Cesar Sanchez on December 21st in Ontario, Canada.  DeLoach (18-4, nine KO's) comes off a tough 10-round split decision loss to Terrell Williams on April 27th in Las Vegas.

In an eight-round contest, Jonathan "Diamante" Esquivel of Anaheim, CA takes on Dormedes Potes of Barranquilla, Colombia.  Esquivel (13-0, 12 KO's) has knocked out his last five opponents, including a first-round knockout of Bryant McClain on November 15th in Sloan, IA.  One of the other knockouts in the streak was a first-round KO of Gregory Clark on July 13th in Carson, CA.  Potes (12-2-1, nine KO's) competes in the United States for the first time after winning by fourth-round stoppage over Luis Guillermo Berrio on October 18th in Sabanalarga, Colombia.

Welterweight "The Machine Gun Kid" Livan Navarro of Miami, FL by way of Cuba, will be in an eight-round bout against DeMarcus Layton of Little Rock, AK.  Navarro (11-0, seven KO's) comes off an eight-round unanimous decision win over former world title challenger Breidis Prescott on May 10th in Hollywood, FL.  Layton (8-1-1, five KO's) knocked out Brandon Baue in the second round on September 21st in Little Rock.

Marietta, GA super middleweight Eric Moon competes in a six-round bout against Devaun Lee of Jamaica, Queens, NY.  Moon (11-2, six KO's) last fought on September 28th and lost a 10-round unanimous decision to Mike Guy in Atlanta, GA.  Lee (10-7-1, five KO's) makes his second straight appearance in Maryland.  On October 18th, Lee lost an eight-round unanimous decision to Demond Nicholson at Live! Casino in Hanover, MD.

The doors will open on Saturday, March 14th at 4 PM ET and the first bout begins at 5 PM.  There will be preliminary bouts shown on FS1 beginning at 6:30 PM and the main telecast starts at 8 PM.

Sykes Wins By Unanimous Decision; Nzau Loses By Unanimous Decision In Pennsylvania!

A split decision for Beltway Boxers in the Keystone State of Pennsylvania on Saturday.  Columbia, MD super middleweight Ashton "The Goon" Sykes won a four-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Isiah Hart of Mays Landing, NJ at the Pittsburgh Shrine Center in Cheswick, PA.  Sykes took the bout by scores of 40-36 (twice) and 39-37.  Sykes is now 5-3, one KO while Hart drops to 5-1-1, three KO's.

At the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA, super lightweight Dieumerci "Elephant" Nzau of Silver Spring, MD by way of the Democratic Republic of the Congo lost a six-round unanimous decision to Samuel "Tsunami" Teah of Philadelphia by way of Liberia.  Teah would win by scores of 60-53 (twice) and 59-54.  Nzau falls to 11-12, eight KO's while Teah rises to 17-3-1, seven KO's.

Sykes, Nzau Hit Scales For Bouts In Pennsylvania!

Two Beltway Boxers hit the scales for separate bouts Saturday in Pennsylvania.

Ashton Sykes weighed in at 165 pounds for his four-round bout against Isiah Hart at the Pittsburgh Shrine Center in Cheswick, PA.  Hart came in at 168.2 pounds.

Dieumerci Nzau tipped the scales at 139.7 for his six-round contest against Samuel Teah at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.  Teah weighed 140.8 pounds.

Nicholson Gets Tough Split Decision; White, Kisner Earn Regional Titles In Hanover, MD!

A sellout house of 4,800 fans saw one of the Beltway area's rising stars earn a tough decision and saw two others win vacant regional titles on a Jeter Promotions card at the Hall at Live! Casino in Hanover, MD.

Laurel, MD super middleweight Demond "D'Best At It" Nicholson survived a sixth-round knockdown to win a tough 10-round split decision over a very game Mike "The Menace" Guy of Sacramento, CA.

Early in the bout, Nicholson seemed to be controlling Guy with a good left jab and would land some solid right hands. However, in the sixth round, Guy would catch Nicholson with a straight right hand and drop him to the canvas.  From there, Nicholson started moving from side-to-side as Guy barreled forward and tried to pressure Nicholson.  Guy would land some punches but most of the shots landed on Nicholson's gloves as he had his hands up.  Guy would do enough to win one judges' scorecard as David Braslow scored the bout 96-93 for Guy.  Judges Kenny Chevalier and Steve Rados saw the bout for Nicholson, 95-94. Nicholson raises his record to 23-3-1, 20 KO's and Guy falls to 12-5-1, five KO's.

The co-feature saw Washington, DC's Jordan "Shortdog" White capture the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental Super Featherweight championship with a dominating seventh-round TKO over Rolando "Criminal" Solis of Cancun, Mexico.  White's speed and accuracy early proved to be the difference throughout the contest as he landed telling jabs and body shots. White looked as if he confused Solis by switching to southpaw in the contest.  Early in the seventh round, White landed a crushing counter left hand that dropped Solis to the canvas.  Solis would beat referee Kenny Chevalier's count but Chevalier felt he was in no condition to continue.  The bout was stopped at 15 seconds of the seventh round.  White is now 10-1, seven KO's while Solis loses for the first time in his United States debut and he is now 4-1-1, three KO's.

Baltimore, MD cruiserweight "Slick" Nick Kisner won a 10-round unanimous decision over "The Vanilla Gorilla" Sam Crossed of Greenbelt, MD to claim the vacant Maryland State Cruiserweight title.

Despite being three years younger than his opponent, Kisner was the more experienced boxer and that experience showed as the bout progressed.  Crossed started strongly as he tried to pressure Kisner in the first few rounds.  However, by the middle of the bout, Kisner would be able to get his distance and Crossed would get fatigued and start to reach with his punches.  Kisner remained poised throughout and would land solid jabs from distance in the second half of the bout.  Judge Braslow scored the contest 99-91, while judges Chevalier and Rados saw the bout for Kisner, 96-94.  Kisner, who lost more than 30 pounds for this contest, raises his record to 22-5-1, six KO's while Crossed suffers his first loss and he is 9-1, five KO's.

In other bouts on the card, Clinton, MD bantamweight Jay Stancil, III scored a first-round TKO over Antonio Lucaine of Mount Vernon, NY.  Early in the first, Stancil would seem to drop Lucaine with a right hand but referee Dave Braslow would call a push and not call a knockdown.  Later in the round, Stancil would dominate Lucaine and trap him near a neutral corner and land heavy head and body shots.  Braslow would step in and halt the bout.  The time of the stoppage was 1:21.   Stancil is now 2-0, one KO while Lucaine is 0-4.

Dallas, TX featherweight Charles Clark upset "The Ambitious One" Malik Loften and won a six-round unanimous decision.  The judges saw the quality of punches Clark threw in the bout as he landed solid shots to Loften's head and body.  Loften threw more punches but many of them did not land or were successfully blocked by Clark.  Judge John Gradowski scored the bout 59-55, Judge Rados saw a shutout, 60-54 and judge Chevalier scored the bout 58-56 for Clark.  Both men now have the same record at 3-2, two KO's.

Owings Mills, MD lightweight Brandon "The Hitter" Chambers won a four-round split decision over Christopher "Bad Boy" Haney of Glendale Heights, IL in the third bout between the two men. Other than the draw between the two on October 18th at Live! Casino, this was the closest contest of the trilogy.  Chambers seemed to be the busier of the two men in the contest as he seemed to outwork Haney in the contest.  Haney, however, did enough to get the nod on judge Eric Irizarry's card, 39-37.  Judges Braslow and Rados both saw a shutout for Chambers, 40-36.  Chambers is 3-0-1, two KO's, winning two of his bouts against Haney.  Haney drops to 0-6-2.

Cockeysville, MD super middleweight AJ "We Are" Williams registered a third-round knockout over Michael Brock Willis of Clarksburg, WVA.  Williams used his height advantage to good use and in the third, he would throw a quick right-left combination that sent Willis crumpling to the canvas.  Referee Braslow immediately stopped the bout at 2:20.  Williams rises to 5-1, three KO's while Willis is 1-6-1, one KO.

Middleweight Maurice "MG III" Winslow, now competing out of Odenton, MD, won by fourth-round disqualification over Dewayne "The Beast" Williams of Philadelphia, PA.  The bout was a clinch fest as both boxers would get into numerous tangles and referee Eric Irizarry would have to repeatedly come between the two.  Irizarry would take two points away from Williams in the third round for holding before the DQ and would deduct a point from Winslow in the fourth for the same infraction.  Williams's holding proved to be too excessive and Irizarry would call for the disqualification.  Winslow is now 3-1, one KO while Williams falls to 1-6-1, one KO.

Germantown, MD super featherweight Ebrima "E-Boy" Jawara won a six-round unanimous decision over Philip "Rock Solid" Davis of Worcester, MA.  Jawara was in complete control of the bout and would land solid jabs to Davis's head and body throughout.  Jawara would win by scores of 60-54 and 59-55 (twice).  Jawara is 4-1, one KO while Davis is 2-3-1.

The opening contest saw Arnold, MD lightweight Blaze Fidler Hernandez win a four-round unanimous decision over Edward "The Mad" Hatler of Corydon, IN.  Hernandez used nice quickness and accuracy to win the contest by scores of 39-37 (twice) and 40-36.  Hernandez is now 1-0-1 while Hatler is 1-2.

Tony and Christen Jeter head Jeter Promotions.  The matchmaker was Nick Tiberi and the ring announcer, celebrating his 64th birthday, was Henry "Discombobulating" Jones.

Pllana Wins Unanimous Decision In Las Vegas!

Big win for Hagerstown, MD super middleweight "The Sexy Albanian" Genc Pllana on national television Friday night at Sam's Town and Gambling Hall in Las Vegas, NV.  Pllana won a 10-round unanimous decision over "The Second Coming" Kevin Newman II of Las Vegas.  The bout opened the ShoBox telecast on Showtime.

The early rounds were close as Newman tried to solve the riddle of the Kosovo native.  Both fighters had their moments as Newman was the aggressor but Pllana counter punched very effectively. Newman jabbed forward successfully but ate more than a few big punches as he worked his way in.

At the end of the fourth round Newman hurt Pllana's nose. No blood was drawn but Pllana began to paw at it as he walked to his corner.  At the end of the fifth with his back against the ropes, Newman unloaded several power shots.  Defense went out the window in the sixth and seventh as both fighters threw wild punches with various degrees of success with Pllana getting the best of it. Newman finished the eighth round strong, landing several flush shots as Pllana just smiled.


Newman outworked Pllana in the last two rounds but Pllana was very successful with the punches that he did throw and he landed most of them flush.

All three judges scored the bout for Pllana, 96-94, much to the chagrin of the fans who came to see the hometown hero, who had competed at Sam's Town and Gambling Hall for seven occasions.  Pllana is unbeaten in his last four outings (3-0-1, one KO) and his overall record is 8-1-1, four KO's.  Newman saw his four-bout winning streak broken and he is now 11-2-1, six KO's.

Pllana Weighs 168 For 10-Round ShoBox Bout In Las Vegas!

Genc Pllana weighed in at the super middleweight limit of 168 pounds for his 10-round contest against Kevin Newman II on Friday at Sam's Town and Gambling Hall in Las Vegas, NV.  Newman II tipped the scales at 167 3/4 pounds.

The bout will headline the ShoBox telecast on Showtime tonight beginning at 10:45 PM ET.

Hawkins Taken Off ShoBox Card February 28th; Pllana Added!

Undefeated Baltimore, MD welterweight Malik "Iceman" Hawkins will have to wait for his big opportunity to headline a nationally-televised event.  Hawkins (18-0, 11 KO's) has been forced to withdraw from his main event bout against fellow undefeated boxer Keith "The Bounty" Hunter of Los Angeles, CA on Friday, February 28th at Sam's Town and Gambling Hall in Las Vegas, NV due to medical reasons.  The bout was slated to be shown on ShoBox on Showtime.

There was no official word on Hawkins's condition but it was revealed on Facebook that Hawkins was hospitalized for a short time.

Hunter (11-0, seven KO's) will now be in a rematch against Sanjarbek “War” Rakhmanov of Tashkent, Uzbekistan (12-2-1, six KO's).  The two men fought each other on February 5th of 2019 with Hunter winning a close split decision.

There will be a Beltway Boxer on this card as Hagerstown, MD super middleweight "The Sexy Albanian" Genc Pllana will open the ShoBox telecast in his first 10-round bout against "The Second Coming" Kevin Newman II of Las Vegas by way of Los Angeles, CA.  Pllana (7-1-1, four KO's) comes off an eight-round majority draw against Kalvin Henderson on December 6th in Philadelphia, PA. Newman II (11-1-1, six KO's) last fought on November 1st and won an eight-round unanimous decision over Mark Anthony Hernandez at Sam's Town and Gambling Hall.  This will be Newman II's fifth straight appearance at this location.

The Jeter Promotions card slated for Friday, February 28th at Live! Casino in Hanover, MD is almost complete.

Three bouts have already been announced.  The main event has Laurel, MD super middleweight Demond "D'Best At It" Nicholson returning in a scheduled 10-round bout against Mike Guy of Sacramento, CA.  Nicholson (22-3-1, 20 KO's) makes his third straight trip to Live! Casino.  Last time out, Nicholson won an eight-round unanimous decision over Devaun Lee on October 18th.  Guy (12-4-1, five KO's) is currently riding a three-bout winning streak which includes an eight-round split decision win over Denis Douglin on November 15th in Salt Lake City, UT.

There will be two title bouts on this card.  One will be a 10-round battle for the Maryland State Cruiserweight title as undefeated Greenbelt, MD's "Vanilla Gorilla" Sam Crossed takes on "Slick" Nick Kisner of Baltimore, MD.  Crossed (9-0, five KO's) last fought on December 14th and won a four-round unanimous decision over Michael Davis in Vienna, VA.  This will be Crossed's first scheduled 10-rounder.  Kisner (21-5-1, six KO's) will look to recover after his last loss at Live! Casino on October 18th when he was knocked out in the second round by Danny Kelly.

There will also be a contest for the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental Super Featherweight title between Washington DC's Jordan "Shortdog" White and Ronaldo "Criminal" Solis of Cancun, Mexico.  This bout is scheduled for eight rounds.  White (9-1, seven KO's) has won his last five bouts since suffering his only loss in May of 2017.  White comes off a fourth-round TKO win over Vincent Jennings on August 2nd at Live! Casino.  Solis (4-0-1, three KO's) will compete in the United States for the first time.  He last scored a second-round TKO over Arturo Hernandez on September 7th in Cancun.

Casino.  Jawara won a six-round unanimous decision over Marq Johns that took place on August 2nd and followed that bout with another six-round unanimous decision win against James Early on October 18th.   Davis (2-2-1) comes off a four-round split decision loss to Carlos Marrero on September 20th in Worcester.

Suitland, MD featherweight "The Ambitious One" Malik Loften will take on Charles Clark of Dallas, TX in a contest slated for six rounds.  Loften (4-1, two KO's) comes off a second-round TKO victory over Omar Ethridge on the October 18th card at Live! Casino. Ethridge (2-6-1, one KO) lost a six-round unanimous decision to Basil Ali Nassar on December 7th in Dearborn, MI.

Clinton, MD featherweight Jay Stancil III will be in a four-round bout against Rafael Castillo of Bronx, NY. Stancil III won his pro debut on October 18th at Live! Casino with a four-round unanimous decision over Rensley Washington III.  Castillo (1-4) lost a four-round unanimous decision to Raymond Ford on September 13th in New York City.

Arnold, MD super featherweight Blaze Fidler Hernandez will be in a four-round contest against Edward Hatler of Corydon, IN.  Hernandez (0-0-1) looks for his first win after battling to a four-round draw with Antonio Dunton-El, Jr. on the October 18th Live! Casino card.  Hatler (1-1) lost by four-round unanimous decision to Kelvin Smith on July 13th in Homestead, NY.

Owings Mills, MD lightweight Brandon "Brody" Chambers will face Christopher Haney of Glendale Heights, IL for the third time in four contests.  Chambers (2-0-1, one KO) and Haney (0-5-2) fought to a four-round draw on March 8th at Live! Casino.   Chambers then won a four-round unanimous decision over Haney on October 18th at Live! Casino.  Chambers has not fought since the last time he faced Haney.  Haney lost by first-round KO to Fernando Martinez on December 15th in Gary, IN.

Cockeysville, MD middleweight AJ "We Are" Williams will face Michael Brock Willis of West Virginia in another four-round rematch.  Williams (2-1, one KO) won the first encounter with Willis by four-round unanimous decision on August 2nd at Live! Casino.  Willis (1-5-1, one KO) lost his last bout by four-round unanimous decision to Richie Cantolina on November 2nd in Canonsburg, PA.

In yet another four-round rematch, middleweight Maurice Winslow, III of Stone Mountain, GA will be in a four-round bout against Dewayne Williams of Philadelphia, PA.  Winslow (3-1, two KO's) defeated Williams (2-2, one KO) by four-round unanimous decision on November 16th in Glen Burnie, MD.  Since that bout, Williams bounced back and scored a first-round TKO over Brent Oren on December 14th in Harrisburg, PA.  Winslow has not fought since the first bout with Williams.

Waleed Serves As Referee For Title Bout In Tennessee!

Congratulations to Beltway-area referee Malik Waleed, who served as the third man in the ring for the IBF Super Middleweight title bout between champion Caleb Plant and challenger Vincent Feigenbutz on Saturday, February 15th at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN.  The bout was shown live on Fox.  Plant would regain his title with a 10th round TKO.

This is one of the few times that Waleed has been able to referee a world title bout in the United States.  In the last few years, Waleed has refereed world title contests in Malaysia, Japan, and Russia.  The last time Waleed refereed a title match in the US was in April of 2016 when he was the third man in another IBF Super Middleweight title bout between then-champion James DeGale and Rogelio Medina.  That bout took place at the DC Armory in Washington, DC.

Results From Vienna, VA!

Here are the results from the Old School Boxing Promotions card held Saturday, February 8th at Tyson's Playground in Vienna, VA:

The main event saw Washington, DC's Dusty Hernandez Harrison score a second-round TKO over Les Sherrington of Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia relatively early in round two.  Harrison, fighting at 178 pounds, knocked down Sherrington twice before the bout was stopped.  No official time was announced.  Harrison remained undefeated at 34-0-1, 20 KO's while Sherrington's record dropped to 38-15, 22 KO's.

Undefeated Upper Marlboro, MD heavyweight Mike "Silverback" Balogun knocked out Adnan Buharalija of Norcross, GA by way of Fojnica, Bosnia And Herzegovina at the end of the first round.  After the 10-second warning, the two followed through on an exchange, Buharalija stooped downwards and Balogun, according to ringside photographer Daniel Cork, did clearly seem to hit him on the back of the head. Buharalija could not recover and did not come out for the second round.  Balogun is now 16-0, 12 KO's while Buharalija is now 32-25-2, 23 KO's.

Debuting Clinton, MD super bantamweight "Raging" Robert Shackelford lost his pro debut to previously winless Steven Lopez of Philadelphia, PA by four-round majority decision.  According to Cork, Lopez was the busier boxer and won by scores of 39-37 twice and 38-38.  Lopez is now 1-4.

Lusby, MD super featherweight Nathaniel "ASAP" Davis won a four-round majority decision over Varon Webb of North Carolina. Davis won by scores of 40-36 (twice) and 38-38.  Davis is now 2-1, one KO while Webb is 1-6.

In the all-Fort Washington, MD middleweight battle, Ian "Dancer" Cokley won by four-round majority decision over "Platinum Power" Leo Alcantara.   Cokley took the victory despite being knocked down in the second round.  Cokley won by scores of 38-37, 38-37, and 38-38.  Cokley is now 2-0 while Alcantara loses for the first time and is now 3-1, one KO.

Elkridge, MD lightweight "The Red Comet" Dante Cox scored a third-round TKO over Christopher Johnson of South Bend, IN.  After a good back and forth struggle in the first two rounds, Cox would wear down Johnson and stop him at 42 seconds.  Cox's record rises to 6-1, four KO's while Johnson remains winless at 0-7.

Oxon Hill, MD super lightweight Akeem Jackson scored a fourth-round TKO over Anthony Dave of Canton, OH.  Jackson would knock down Dave twice during the bout, once in the third and once in the fourth, before the bout was stopped at 2:04.  Jackson evens his record at 1-1, one KO.  Dave drops to 1-19-1.

Welterweight Mazium Akdeniz of Montreal, Quebec, Canada stopped Elliott Brown of Erie, PA at 2:02 of the first round.  Akdeniz is 11-0, six KO's while Brown falls to 2-16, two KO's.

Russells, Bolen Win Bouts in Allentown, PA!

Beltway Boxers went four-for-four on a card Saturday night at the PPL Center in Allentown,  PA.

All three of the Russell Brothers of Capitol Heights, MD earned victories.  In the main event on the card, "Mr." Gary Russell, Jr. successfully defended his WBC Featherweight championship with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Tugstsogt Nyambayar of Los Angeles, CA by way of Mongolia.

While Nyambayar was the heavier puncher, he could not handle Russell's superior speed and ring generalship.  As the bout wore on, Russell's experience proved to be the difference as he would win easily by scores of 116-112, 117-111 and 118-110. Russell makes the fifth successful defense of his title and is now 31-1, 18 KO's.  Nyambayar loses for the first time and he is now 11-1, nine KO's.

On the undercard, super lightweight Antuanne "The Last" Russell kept his perfect streak intact, needing just 2:12 to knock out Jose Marrufo of Phoenix, AZ by way of Mexico.  According to Kurt Wolfheimer of Fightnews.com, Russell was in control from the opening bell and had Marrufo on retreat. Marrufo dropped his hands for a second and that was all Russell would need as he floored him with a right hook on the button for the knockout victory.  Russell rises to 13-0, 13 KO's while Marrufo falls to 12-10-2, one KO.

Bantamweight Antonio "Another" Russell won his bout by six-round disqualification over Jesus "Sargento" Martinez of Hollywood, FL by way of Colombia.  Russell controlled the fight throughout with a steady mixture of combinations in the center of the ring. Martinez was sent to his knees with a left hook to the body in the sixth.  Martinez rose to his feet and constantly held until he was disqualified at 1:31 of the sixth round.  Russell remains undefeated at 17-0, 13 KO's.  Martinez drops to 27-11, 13 KO's.

In the opening bout on the card, Bowie, MD welterweight Marlon "The Machine" Bolen scored a second-round TKO over veteran "Lightning" Larry Ventus of Detroit, MI.  The knockout came at 2:58 of the round.  Bolen is now 4-0, three KO's while Ventus drops to 9-15-1, four KO's.

Russell Brothers, Bolen Bouts Added To February 8th Card in Allentown, PA!

All three of the Russell Brothers of Capitol Heights, MD are slated to be in action on Saturday, February 8th on a card at the PPL Center in Allentown, PA.

In the main event, WBC Featherweight champion "Mr." Gary Russell, Jr. will defend his title against undefeated IBO titleholder Tugstsogt "King Tug" Nyambayar of Los Angeles, CA by way of Mongolia.  Russell (30-1, 18 KO's) last fought on May 18th and registered a fifth-round TKO over Kiko Martinez on May 18th in Brooklyn, NY.  Nyambayar (11-0, nine KO's) comes off his win of the vacant IBO Featherweight title, taking a 12-round unanimous decision over Claudio Marrero in January of 2019, also in Brooklyn.  This bout will headline a Showtime telecast.

On the undercard, undefeated super lightweight Antuanne "The Last" Russell will risk his perfect record (12-0, 12 KO's) against Jose Marrufo of Phoenix, AZ by way of Mexico.  Russell, who has yet to go past four rounds, scored a second-round TKO over Juan Huertas in his last outing on November 2nd in Oxon Hill, MD.  Marrufo (12-9-2, one KO) comes off an eight-round majority decision loss to Willie Shaw on August 24th in San Mateo, CA.

Also, undefeated bantamweight Antonio "Another" Russell (16-0, 12 KO's) is also slated to be on the card in a scheduled 10-round contest against an opponent to be determined.  Russell scored a crushing first-round TKO over Samuel Gutierrez on the November 2nd card in Oxon Hill, MD.

There is another Beltway Boxer slated for this card.  Bowie, MD welterweight Marlon "The Machine" Bolen will participate in his first scheduled six-round bout against Osmel Mayorga of Miami, FL by way of Nicaragua.  Bolen (3-0, two KO's) comes off a second-round stoppage of Kevin Womack, Jr. on December 7th in Sterling, VA.  Mayorga (2-0, one KO) last fought on May 24th and won a four-round unanimous decision over Jack Grady in Miami.

Bouts have been firmed for the Old School Boxing Promotions card on Saturday, February 8th at Tyson's Playground in Vienna, VA.

Undefeated Upper Marlboro, MD heavyweight Mike "Silverback" Balogun (15-0, 11 KO's) has an opponent for his eight-round bout.  His name is Adnan Buharalija of Norcross, GA by way of Bosnia and Herzegovina.  Buharalija (32-24-2, 23 KO's) won a four-round unanimous decision over Jaudiel Zepeda in his last outing in May of 2018 in Norcross, GA.

Elkridge, MD lightweight "The Red Comet" Dante Cox (5-1, three KO's) will now face Christopher Johnson of South Bend, IN.  Johnson (0-6) lost a four-round unanimous decision to Yousif Saleh on December 15th in Gary, IN.

Featherweight Robert Shackleford of Clinton, MD makes his pro debut against Steven Lopez of Philadelphia, PA. Lopez (0-4) lost by four-round unanimous decision to Josue Rosa on July 20th in Atlantic City, NJ.

Oxon Hill, MD welterweight Akeem Jackson takes on veteran Anthony Dave of Canton, OH in a contest scheduled for four rounds.  Jackson lost his pro debut by four-round unanimous decision to Damon Towns on December 14th at Tyson's Playground.  Dave (1-18-1) also fought on the December 14th card at Tyson's Playground and lost a four-round unanimous decision to Taurean Venable.

Also on the card is a four-round all-Fort Washington, MD middleweight bout against Ian "Dancer" Cokley (1-0) and "Platinum Power" Leo Alcantara Perez (3-0, one KO).

Boxing Returns To Live! Casino In Maryland February 28th!

The first card for the state of Maryland will be on Friday, February 28th at Live! Casino in Hanover, MD.  This will be a Jeter Promotions card, their fifth card at Live! Casino.  Three of the bouts have already been announced.

The main event has Laurel, MD super middleweight Demond "D'Best At It" Nicholson returning in a scheduled 10-round bout against Mike Guy of Sacramento, CA.  Nicholson (22-3-1, 20 KO's) makes his third straight trip to Live! Casino.  Last time out, Nicholson won an eight-round unanimous decision over Devaun Lee on October 18th.  Guy (12-4-1, five KO's) is currently riding a three-bout winning streak which includes an eight-round split decision win over Denis Douglin on November 15th in Salt Lake City, UT.

There will be two title bouts on this card.  One will be a 10-round battle for the Maryland State Cruiserweight title as undefeated Greenbelt, MD's "Vanilla Gorilla" Sam Crossed takes on "Slick" Nick Kisner of Baltimore, MD.  Crossed (9-0, five KO's) last fought on December 14th and won a four-round unanimous decision over Michael Davis in Vienna, VA.  This will be Crossed's first scheduled 10-rounder.  Kisner (21-5-1, six KO's) will look to recover after his last loss at Live! Casino on October 18th when he was knocked out in the second round by Danny Kelly.

There will also be a contest for the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental Super Featherweight title between Washington DC's Jordan "Shortdog" White and Ronaldo "Criminal" Solis of Cancun, Mexico.  This bout is scheduled for eight rounds.  White (9-1, seven KO's) has won his last five bouts since suffering his only loss in May of 2017.  White comes off a fourth-round TKO win over Vincent Jennings on August 2nd at Live! Casino.  Solis (4-0-1, three KO's) will compete in the United States for the first time.  He last scored a second-round TKO over Arturo Hernandez on September 7th in Cancun.

'Iceman' Hawkins Headlines ShoBox Card February 28th In Las Vegas!

Undefeated Baltimore, MD super lightweight Malik "Iceman" Hawkins will take the biggest step in his career when he headlines a ShoBox card on Showtime against fellow undefeated boxer Keith "The Bounty" Hunter of Las Vegas, NV on Friday, February 28th at Sam's Town and Gambling Hall in Las Vegas.  The bout is scheduled for 10 rounds.

Hawkins (18-0, 11 KO's) comes off a fifth-round TKO win over previously undefeated Darwin Price on December 28th in Atlanta, GA.  Price could not continue after suffering a knee injury.  Hunter (11-0, seven KO's) makes his third straight appearance at Sam's Town.  Hunter won a 10-round unanimous decision over Cameron Krael on June 28th.  Hunter, the younger brother of heavyweight Michael Hunter, has fought in the Beltway before, scoring a first-round knockout over Siddarth Ravindra Varma in December of 2018 in Bowie, MD.

Here Is The 2020 Washington Golden Gloves Schedule!

The final day of registrations for the 2020 Washington Golden Gloves will be on Saturday, February 1, from 9 am to 1 pm, at the Hillcrest Heights Bingo Hall located at 4104 23rd Parkway, Hillcrest Heights, MD.

The 2020 Washington Golden Gloves tournament will get underway at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD on Saturday, February 15th with the first day of preliminary action.  The preliminaries continue on Saturday, February 22nd and Saturday, February 29th.

The Semifinals of the tournament starts on Saturday, March 7th and will continue on Friday, March 13th and Saturday, March 21st.  All preliminary action will be general seating and all tickets are $20.

The Washington Golden Gloves championship finals will be on Saturday, April 4th, also at Rosecroft.   The Regional Championships, which matches the DC/Maryland/Delaware champions against the titleholders from Virginia and North Carolina, will be on Saturday, April 18th at Rosecroft.  No word yet on ticket prices for the championship days.

All tournament action will begin at 7:30 PM ET. 

Late Result From Brooklyn: Harris Wins Unanimous Decision!

The last bout on the card on Saturday, January 25th from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY saw Hyattsville, MD super lightweight Patrick "YG Pat" Harris win an eight-round unanimous decision over Clay "3rd Degree" Burns of Fort Worth, TX.  Harris won by shutout, 80-72, across the board. 

Harris is now 19-0, nine KO's.  Burns falls to 8-7-2, four KO's.

Hurd Wins Comeback By Unanimous Decision!

Former Unified Super Welterweight Champion "Swift" Jarrett Hurd of Accokeek, MD won his first fight after losing his titles by capturing a 10-round unanimous decision over Francisco "Chia" Santana of Santa Barbara, CA Saturday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

This was a different Hurd than fans were used to seeing.  He did not get into a slugfest, preferring instead to box his way through the bout.  Fans booed throughout the contest but Hurd got the job done, finishing the bout by knocking Santana down in the last round.  Hurd won the bout by scores of 97-92 and 99-90 twice.  Hurd is now 24-1, 16 KO's while Santana drops to 25-8-1, 12 KO's.

Williams, Simpson Get Unanimous Decisions In Brooklyn!

Two Beltway Boxers have won workmanlike unanimous decisions at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY on Saturday evening.

District Heights, MD welterweight "The Next Big Thing" Keyshawn Williams went eight rounds for the first time as a pro and defeated Gaku Takahashi of Los Angeles, CA by way of Japan.  Williams hit Takahashi with some wicked punches throughout the contest but Takahashi proved to be very durable.  Williams won by scores of 79-73, 78-74 and 80-72 to remain undefeated at 7-0-1, two KO's.  Takahashi falls to 16-11-1, eight KO's.

Baltimore middleweight Lorenzo "Truck" Simpson won a six-round unanimous decision over Antonio Louis Hernandez of Kansas City, KS.  Simpson was in control for the majority of the bout landing crisp jabs and shots to the body.  All three judges scored the bout 59-55.  Simpson is now 7-0, four KO's.  Hernandez drops to 2-11-1.

The bout for Patrick Harris that was scheduled to be on the Showtime Championship Boxing streaming webcast had to be moved until after the main event due to time constraints.

Beltway Boxers To Be Shown On Television And Streamed From New York On Saturday!

A number of local pros will be showcased on Saturday, January 25th from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.  One will be shown on the Showtime boxing telecast and three more will be streamed on both YouTube and Facebook.

The co-feature marks the return of former IBF/WBA/IBO Super Welterweight champion "Swift" Jarrett Hurd of Accokeek, MD who will battle Francisco "Chia" Santana of Santa Barbara, CA in a 10-round battle.  This will be the first bout for Hurd (23-1, 16 KO's) since losing the world titles to Julian Williams on May 11th in Fairfax, VA.  Santana (25-7-1, 12 KO's) looks to bounce back from a 10-round unanimous decision loss to Abel Ramos on March 9th in Carson, CA.  The Hurd-Santana bout is part of a tripleheader on Showtime that will get underway at 9 PM ET.

Prior to that contest, there will be three bouts on the Showtime Championship Boxing Countdown internet card and all three will feature undefeated Beltway Boxers.  Hyattsville, MD super lightweight Patrick "YG Pat" Harris will be in an eight-round contest against Clay "3rd Degree" Burns of Fort Worth, TX.  Harris (18-0, nine KO's) is coming off a sixth-round TKO win over Joaquim Carneiro on November 2nd in Oxon Hill, MD.  Burns (8-6-2, four KO's) had a three-bout winning streak broken when he lost a six-round unanimous decision to Francisco Ochoa on September 21st in Bakersfield, CA.

District Heights, MD welterweight "The Next Big Thing" Keeshawn Williams will be in his first scheduled eight-round bout against Gaku "Maton" Takahashi of Los Angeles, CA by way of Yubari, Hokkaido, Japan.  Williams (6-0-1, two KO's) competes for the second straight time in Barclays Center.  In his last outing, Williams scored a first-round TKO over Mario Alberto Perez Navarro on August 3rd.  Takahashi (16-10-1, eight KO's) will be looking to break a three-bout losing streak.

Baltimore, MD super middleweight Lorenzo "Truck" Simpson will be in a scheduled six-round encounter against Antonio Louis Hernandez of Kansas City, KS.  Simpson (6-0, four KO's) went a full six rounds in winning a unanimous decision against Delvecchio Savage in his last bout on November 16th in Glen Burnie, MD.  Hernandez (2-10-1) battled to a four-round draw against Saleem Kelly on December 7th in Atlantic City, NJ.

The Showtime Boxing Countdown internet show will get underway at 7 PM ET.

One other boxer with local ties is slated to be on the card.  Super bantamweight Akihiro Nakamura (1-0) will take on the debuting Rajon Chance of East Orange, NJ.  Nakamura is a native of Rockville, MD but now lives in Duluth, GA.  Nakamura won his pro debut on September 22nd, taking a four-round majority decision over Diego Bautista.

Registrations and physicals for the 2020 Golden Gloves Tournament start Saturday, January 25, from 9 am to 1 pm and again on Saturday, February 1, from 9 am to 1 pm, at the Hillcrest Heights Bingo Hall located at 4104 23rd Parkway, Hillcrest Heights, MD.

First Beltway Boxing Card In Vienna, VA On February 8th!

The first Beltway Boxing card of 2020 will take place on Saturday, February 8th at Tyson's Playground in Vienna, VA.  This will be an Old School Boxing promotions card.

In the main event, undefeated DC middleweight Dusty Hernandez Harrison will be in the main event taking on veteran Les "Lock and Load" Sherrington of Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia.  The bout is scheduled for eight rounds.  Harrison (33-0-1, 19 KO's) comes off a seventh-round TKO over Juan DeAngel on July 19th in Oxon Hill, MD.  Sherrington (38-14, 22 KO's) broke a four-bout losing streak in his last outing by stopping Keon Johnson in the seventh-round on December 14th in Indianapolis, IN.  Harrison will be the second local boxer that Sherrington has faced.  Sherrington lost by four-round TKO to Antoine Douglas in November of 2015 in Las Vegas, NV.

Upper Marlboro, MD heavyweight Mike "Silverback" Balogun will look to remain undefeated when he will be in an eight-round co-feature bout against an opponent to be determined.  Balogun (15-0, 11 KO's) scored a first-round knockout win against Mike Bissett on October 24th in Washington, DC.

Elkridge, MD lightweight "The Red Comet" Dante Cox will be in a six-round contest against Angel Albelo of Kissimmee, FL by way of Puerto Rico.  Cox (5-1, three KO's) has won two straight since his loss to Drayvontay Speed Rawls on March 8th.  In his last outing, Cox won a four-round unanimous decision over Elliott Brown on December 7th in Sterling, VA.  Albelo (4-11-3, one KO) has not fought since December 7th of 2018 when he lost by fourth-round TKO to Juan Eduardo Avila in Tampa, FL.

In an all-Fort Washington, MD four-round middleweight contest, Ian "Dancer" Cokley will battle "Platinum Power" Leo Alcantara Perez.   Cokley won his pro debut in August of 2018 taking a unanimous decision over Carlos Cruz in Sterling, VA.  Perez (3-0, one KO) scored his first pro knockout, getting a third-round stoppage of DeAndre West on June 29th in Laurel, MD.

Other bouts are to be announced.

Crews-Dezurn Loses WBC And WBO Super Middleweight Titles To Jimenez By Split Decision!

Baltimore, MD's " Heavy-Hitting Diva" Franchon Crews-Dezurn has lost the WBC and WBO Super Middleweight championships to Alejandra "La Tigre" Jimenez on Saturday at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX.  The bout was streamed on DAZN.

According to reports, the bout was an action-packed affair with Jimenez taking the early part of the 10-round affair and Crews-Dezurn rallying in the later rounds.  Crews-Dezurn would win on one judge's scorecard, 97-92 but Jimenez captured the other two cards, 97-93 and 98-92.  Crews-Dezurn is now 6-2, two KO's while Jimenez is 13-0-1, nine KO's.

Crews-Dezurn Weighs 168 For Title Defense In San Antonio!

Franchon Crews-Dezurn tipped the scales at 168 pounds for her WBC/WBO Super Middleweight title defense against Alejandra Jimenez on Saturday at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX.  Jimenez weighed 164.6.

The bout will be streamed live on DAZN.

Davis Captures WBA Lightweight Title With 12th-Round TKO Over Gamboa!

Baltimore, MD's Gervonta "Tank" Davis won his third world championship with a 12th-round TKO over former champion Yuriorkis "El Ciclon De Guantanamo" Gamboa of Miami, FL by way of Cuba on Saturday in front of 14,000 people at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, GA.

In the second round, Davis would drop Gamboa.  When Gamboa recovered, something seemed to be wrong with his foot and his shoe, which broke.  Davis would knock down Gamboa again in the eighth round but Gamboa, who later said he may have ruptured his Achilles tendon, kept coming.

Finally, in the 12th round, the two would go toe-to-toe before Davis would knock down Gamboa for the third and final time.  Referee Jack Reiss stopped the bout immediately afterward.  The time of the stoppage was 1:17.

With the win, Davis captured the vacant WBA Lightweight championship to go with the IBF and WBA Super Featherweight titles he held earlier.  Davis went farther in this bout than any in his career and scored his 14th consecutive knockout.  Davis is now 23-0, 22 KO's.  Gamboa is now 30-3, 18 KO's.

Beltway Boxers Victorious On Atlanta Undercard!

A number of local prospects have won bouts on the Gervonta Davis-Yuriorkis Gamboa undercard at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, GA on Saturday.

Baltimore, MD super lightweight Malik "Iceman" Hawkins won his bout by fifth-round TKO after his opponent, Darwin Price of Houston, TX, hurt his knee and could not continue.  The bout was stopped at 1:18.  Hawkins remains undefeated at 18-0, 11 KO's while Price suffers his first loss and is now 16-1, nine KO's.

Clinton, MD super lightweight Kareem "Reemo" Martin won an eight-round majority decision over Petros Ananyan of Brooklyn, NY by way of Armenia. One judge scored the bout a draw at 76-76 but two other judges saw the bout for Martin, 78-74.  This is Martin's fifth straight win and he is now 14-2-1, four KO's.  Ananyan falls to 14-2-2, seven KO's.

Baltimore super featherweight Malik "King" Warren scored a second-round knockout over previously undefeated Trayvion Butts of Dry Branch, GA.  No word on the official time.  Warren is 3-0 with all three knockouts coming in the second round.  Butts is now 3-1, two KO's.

Also, Baltimore female lightweight Mia "Killabee" Ellis made a successful pro debut by registering a first-round TKO over equally debuting Uneaka Best of Goldsboro, NC.  Ellis needed only 52 seconds to gain the knockout.

Weights From Atlanta!

A number of Beltway Boxers hit the scales for Saturday's card at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, GA.

Gervonta Davis weighed in at 134.8 pounds for his main event bout against Yuriorkis Gamboa, who came in at 134.6 pounds.  This was on the second weight try for Davis, who originally came in well overweight at 136.2.  Both men are eligible to win the vacant WBA Lightweight championship.  This bout will be televised on Showtime.

Malik Hawkins tipped the scales at 139.4 for his 10-round contest against fellow undefeated boxer Darwin Price, who came in at the super lightweight limit of 140.

Malik Warren weighed 130 pounds for his four-rounder against Trayvion Butts, who tipped the scales at 129 pounds.

Kareem Martin came in at 139 for his eight-round bout against Petros Ananyan, who weighed 140 pounds.

Mia Ellis weighed in at 131.2 for her pro debut against Uneaka Best, who will also debut, weighing in at 123.8 pounds.

Fox Stopped By Williams In London!

Forestville, MD middleweight Alantez "SlyAza" Fox has lost his bid for the vacant WBO Intercontinental Middleweight title as he was stopped by Liam "The Machine" Williams of Wales Saturday at the Copperbox Arena in London, England.

According to reports, Williams pressed the action, dropping Fox with a right hand in round four. Fox was deducted a point for holding in round five. Later in the round, Williams battered Fox to the deck again to end the fight. The bout was stopped at 2:59 of the fifth.

Fox falls to 26-2-1, 12 KO's while Williams rises to 22-2-1, 16 KO's.

Fox Weighs 159 3/4 for 12-Rounder In London!

Alantez Fox tipped the scales at 159 3/4 pounds for his contest against Liam Williams on Saturday, December 21st at the Copper Box Arena in London, England.  Williams came in at 159 1/4.

The bout is not only a title eliminator for the WBO Middleweight championship, but it will also be for the vacant WBO International Middleweight title.

Hurd, Russell Return In Separate Bouts!

There will be two more important bouts coming for Beltway Boxers in 2020.

Former Unified World Super Welterweight champion "Swift" Jarrett Hurd of Accokeek, MD returns for his first bout since losing his titles when he battles Francisco "Chia" Santana of Santa Barbara, CA on Saturday, January 25th at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. The bout will be shown on Showtime.

Hurd (23-1, 16 KO's) looks to bounce back from his 12-round unanimous decision loss to Julian Williams for the WBA/IBF/IBO 154-pound titles on May 11th in Fairfax, VA.  This bout will be at 154 pounds.  Santana (25-7-1, 12 KO's) also is coming off a loss, dropping a 10-round unanimous decision to Abel Ramos on March 9th in Carson, CA.

On Saturday, February 8th, "Mr." Gary Russell, Jr. of Capitol Heights, MD will defend his WBC  Featherweight championship against undefeated IBO champion Tugstsogt "King Tug" Nyambayar of Carson, CA by way of Mongolia in Allentown, PA. Both titles will be on the line and the bout will also be televised by Showtime. 

Russell (30-1, 18 KO's) last fought on May 18th and stopped Kiko Martinez in the fifth round in Brooklyn, NY.  Martinez suffered a cut over his left eye and the bout had to be stopped.  Nyambayar (11-0, nine KO's) won the vacant IBO title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Claudio Marrero on January 26th in Brooklyn, NY.

Crews-Dezurn To Defend WBC/WBO Titles January 11th In San Antonio, TX!

WBC and WBO Female Super Middleweight champion "The Heavy Hitting Diva" Franchon Crews-Dezurn of Baltimore, MD will defend both titles against Alejandra "La Tigre" Jimenez of Mexico City, Mexico on Saturday, January 11th at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX.  This will be a co-feature bout that will be streamed on DAZN.

This will be the second defense of the WBC title and the first of the WBO crown for Crews-Dezurn (6-1, two KO's).  In her last outing, Crews-Dezurn won a 10-round unanimous decision over Maricela Cornejo on September 14th in Carson, CA.  Cornejo, who lost to Crews-Dezurn for the second time, was a late substitute for Jimenez, who could not compete in the bout.  Jimenez (12-0-1, nine KO's) is a former WBC Heavyweight champion who has fought her last three bouts in and around the super middleweight weight class. Jimenez won an eight-round unanimous decision over Irais Hernandez on February 16th in Cancun, Mexico.

The main event on this card will feature former WBO Super Welterweight champ Jaime Munguia of Tijuana, Mexico in a 12-round bout against Gary "Spike" O'Sullivan of Cork, Ireland.

Weekend Beltway Review!

Here's a recap of what did (and did not) take place over the past 72 hours.

First, the results of the TAC Promotions card that took place on Saturday, December 14th at Tyson's Playground in Sterling, VA:

Lanham, MD welterweight Aaron Thorne, III scored the only knockout of the evening as he stopped William Davis in 2:14 of the first round.  Both men were making their pro debuts.

Greenbelt, MD cruiserweight "The Vanilla Gorilla" Sam Crossed won a four-round unanimous decision over Michael Davis of Cincinnati, OH.  Crossed won by shutout on all cards, 40-36.  Crossed remains undefeated at 9-0, five KO's.  Davis drops to 2-36.

Washington, DC welterweight Taurean Venable won his first pro bout by taking a four-round unanimous decision over Anthony Dave of Canton, OH.  No word on the scores.  Venable evens his record at 1-1 while Dave falls to 1-18-1.

Oxon Hill, MD welterweight Akeem Jackson lost a four-round unanimous decision to Damon Towns of Raleigh, NC.  Towns is now 3-0, two KO's.

Brooklyn, NY super welterweight "The Brooklyn Torch" Justin Biggs won an eight-round unanimous decision over Larry "Slow Motion" Smith, Jr. of Dallas, TX.  Biggs rises to 8-0, six KO's while Smith falls to 10-43-2, seven KO's.

Welterweight Michael "Slick" Anderson of East Orange, NJ took a six-round unanimous decision over Matt Murphy of East St. Louis, IL.  Anderson is now 18-3-1, 12 KO's while Murphy is now 3-41-4, two KO's.

Super middleweight William Townsel of Virginia Beach, VA made a successful pro debut winning a four-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Keithland King of Bridgetown, Barbados.  King is now 3-1, three KO's.

Welterweight Chris Rollins of Charlottesville, VA won a four-round unanimous decision over Antonio Allen of Philadelphia, PA.  Rollins lifts his record to 3-1, two KO's and Allen remains winless at 0-11-1.

Anthony Hamilton heads TAC Promotions.  The matchmaker was Cedric Harden.  Henry "Discombobulating" Jones served as the ring announcer.


At the Hits 55 Club in Covington, KY on December 14th, super bantamweight Glenn Dezurn won a four-round unanimous decision over Michael Gaxiola of Modesto, CA.  No word on the scores.  Dezurn raises his record to 11-2-1, seven KO's while Gaxiola drops to 4-19.

The IBO Super Flyweight championship bout featuring Alexandru Marin that was slated for Monday, December 16th was scratched.  Marin was scheduled to challenge Gideon Buthelezi for the title.  However, Marin became ill and had to withdraw.

Keyshawn Davis Makes US Olympic Team!

Congratulations to Alexandria, VA 138-pounder Keyshawn Davis who has made the 2020 United States Olympic Team!

Davis, the top seed in his division, had an outstanding tournament, winning two bouts by a 4-1 decision and another by a unanimous decision.  Davis won his final bout by walkover as his opponent was a medical disqualification.  Davis will now have to win some international bouts to qualify for the Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Alexandria's Amelia Moore lost in the finals of the Women's 132-pound class by unanimous decision to Rashida Ellis of Lynn, MA.

Jones Loses Unanimous Decision In Springfield, MA!

Leesburg, VA cruiserweight "Mighty" Joe Jones lost an eight-round unanimous decision to undefeated Richie "Popeye The Sailor Man" Rivera of Hartford, CT on Friday at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, MA.

Rivera won the bout by shutout, 80-72, across the board to remain unbeaten at 16-0, 12 KO's.  Jones falls to 11-2, eight KO's.

Davis Advance To US Olympic Team Finals!

Alexandria, VA 138-pounder Keyshawn Davis has advanced to the finals of the 2020 US Olympic Team Trials at the Lake Charles Civic Center in Lake Charles, LA.

On Friday, Davis defeated Charlie Sheehy of Brisbane, CA by unanimous decision.  Davis was the top seed in his bracket.  Davis's brother, Kelvin, lost his bout at 152 pounds by split decision to Delante Johnson of Cleveland Heights, OH.  Davis will face Freudis Rojas of Las Vegas in the challenger's bracket.

Fellow Alexandria boxers Troy Isley and Amelia Moore will also have to advance to the finals through the challenger's bracket.  Isley lost his first bout of the double-elimination tournament, dropping a 4-1 decision to Javier Martinez of Milwaukee, WI.  Isley will take on Joseph Hicks of Grand Rapids, MI in today's Challenger's finals.  Moore, who has been competing in the challenger's bracket since losing her first-round bout, stayed alive by defeating Jennifer Lopez of Jersey City, NJ by unanimous decision.  Moore will battle Kimberly Carlson of Chicago, IL who defeated Moore in the first round.

Washington, DC's Nasheed Smith has been eliminated from the tournament.  Smith lost a tough 3-2 decision to Orville Crooks of Brooklyn, NY in the 178-pound challenger's bracket.
