'Awesome April Of Beltway Boxing' Returns!

Over the past few years, April has been one of the real busy months for Boxing Along The Beltway.  April 2019 will definitely live up to that tradition as we will be extremely busy.  In fact, one location in the Beltway -- Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD -- will have either amateur or pro boxing every Saturday in the month.  Here is a look at the schedule (bouts subject to change or to be added)

Friday, April 5th -- Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall, Las Vegas, NV -- Baltimore, MD super featherweight Jahmal Dyer will be in an eight-round bout against undefeated Andres Cortes of Las Vegas.  Dyer (9-1, five KO’s) competes in an eight-rounder for the first time in his pro career after coming off a six-round unanimous decision win over previously undefeated Carlos Dixon on March 2nd in Columbus, OH.  This will be Dyer’s third bout in three months.  Cortes (10-0, six KO’s) last fought on January 17th and stopped Eder Amaro Fajardo in the third round at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas.

Saturday, April 6th -- Rosecroft Raceway, Fort Washington, MD -- The Washington Golden Gloves championships will take place.  The Novice and Open Champions for DC, Maryland and Delaware will take place beginning at 7:30 PM ET.

Friday-Saturday, April 12th-13th -- Rosecroft Raceway, Fort Washington, MD -- The Virginia/North Carolina Golden Gloves will take place on that night.

Saturday, April 13th -- Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, NJ -- Baltimore’s “Slick” Nick Kisner will be in a 10-round heavyweight bout against undefeated Otto Wallin of Sundsvall, Sweden. The bout is scheduled to be televised by Showtime.  Kisner (21-4-1, six KO’s) last fought on July 28th when he won a 10-round majority decision over Scott Sigmon in Columbus, OH.  Wallin, who is currently the EBU European Union and WBA Continental Heavyweight champion (20-0, 13 KO’s) comes off a 12-round unanimous decision over Adrian Granat on April 21st in Sundsvall.  This will be Wallin's first bout in the United States.

Also, Washington, DC featherweight Marcus “Dream Crusher” Bates will be in an eight-round undercard contest against Jesse Angel Hernandez of Fort Worth, TX.  This will be the first bout for Bates (8-1-1, seven KO’s) since he lost his first career contest, an eight-round unanimous decision loss to Raeese Aleem in April of 2018 in Philadelphia, PA.  Hernandez (12-2, seven KO’s) will also be coming off a loss as he dropped a 10-round unanimous decision to Thomas Patrick Ward on February 15th in Mulvane, KS.

Saturday, April 13th -- Boonsboro Ruritan Club, Lynchburg, VA -- Bedford, VA cruiserweight Scott “Cujo” Sigmon will be in a 10-round bout against undefeated Ronnie “The Unbreakable” Glass of Danville, VA. Sigmon (33-13-1, 17 KO’s) bounced back from his loss to Kisner and defeated Max Alexander by 10-round unanimous decision on December 15th in Lynchburg, VA. Glass (9-0-1, six KO’s) scored a second-round TKO victory over Courtney McCleave on July 21st in Yanceyville, NC.

Saturday, April 20th -- Rosecroft Raceway, Fort Washington, MD -- There will be a pro card that will be put together by a new promotional company, KBW Promotions.  Beltway Boxers scheduled to appear on that card include middleweight Dusty Hernandez Harrison, super middleweight “The Sexy Albanian” Genc Pllana, heavyweight Mike “Silverback” Balogun, super welterweight “The Lion King” Jonathan Burrs, DC welterweight David “Day-Day” Grayton, Woodbridge, VA cruiserweight Mario Flores and debuting Lusby, MD super featherweight Nathaniel Lee “ASAP” Davis. Friday, April 26th -- The Met, Philadelphia, PA --  Undefeated Baltimore welterweight Malik “Iceman” Hawkins will make his third straight trip to Philadelphia and his second straight to the Met when he competes in an eight-round contest against an opponent to be determined.  Hawkins (14-0, nine KO’s) won an eight-round unanimous decision over Gledwin Ortiz on February 23rd.

Saturday, April 27th -- Tyson’s Playground, Vienna, VA -- T.A.C. Promotions will have a card that is scheduled to feature a number of Beltway Boxers including Rockville, MD middleweight “The Cisco Kid” Francisco Bustos, Bowie, MD welterweight Marlon “The Machine” Bolen, Waldorf, MD welterweight Rashad “Code Blue” Kilpatrick, DC heavyweight Nathaniel “The Juggernaut” Copeland, DC welterweight Cornell “Hitman” Hines and Bowie, MD cruiserweight Chester Stewart.  Also scheduled to be on this card is female world champion boxer Ronica “Queen” Jeffrey of Brooklyn, NY.

Saturday, April 27th -- Rosecroft Raceway, Fort Washington, MD -- The Regional Golden Gloves Championships.  The winners from the Washington, DC championships face the champions from the Virginia/North Carolina championships.  The winners from the Open Division Regionals will advance to the National Golden Gloves championships May 5th-12th in Chattanooga, TN.

Saturday, April 27th -- Washington Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, Washington, DC -- The 2019 Belfast-Beltway Boxing Classic which features a team of local amateurs battling a squad from Belfast, Ireland.
