IBF/WBA/IBO 154-Pound Champion "Swift" Jarrett Hurd successfully defended his titles with a fourth-round TKO over former British Middleweight champion Jason Welborn on Saturday evening at Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA.
According to reports, Welborn, of the United Kingdom, came out firing in the first round trying to work Hurd against the ropes. Hurd's game plan seemed to counter Welborn and wait to land key shots.
Early in the fourth round, Welborn stepped up his attack landing punches through Hurd's guard and forcing the champion to hold on for a breather. However, Welborn made one mistake and Hurd capitalized on it. As Hurd moved back toward the center of the ring, Welborn missed on a punch and Hurd countered with a right uppercut to Welborn's sternum that dropped Welborn for the count. The bout was stopped at 1:55 of the fourth.
Hurd remains undefeated at 23-0, 16 KO's while Welborn falls to 24-7, seven KO's.
