In its July 2018 issue, the editors of Ring Magazine have named IBF/WBA/IBO Super Welterweight champion "Swift" Jarrett Hurd of Accokeek, MD its Fighter Of The Month.
The Ring based its selection on Hurd's 12-round split decision victory over former WBA/IBO champ Erislandy Lara on April 7th at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Hurd not only won the bout but also forced Lara to engage Hurd in an entertaining contest -- a bout that is a Fight Of The Year candidate.
Hurd's victory elevated him to the number-one position in Ring's Super Welterweight rankings. Also, Showtime boxing host Brian Custer was interviewed in the same issue and listed Hurd as one of his favorite current boxers to watch and the 12th round of Hurd-Lara (where Hurd dropped Lara late in the round) as one of his favorite current rounds.
