Another prominent member of the Beltway Boxing community has branched out into another endeavor. He has recently published his first novel and will have a book signing next week.
District of Columbia Boxing Hall of Famer A.H. Sharif Salim has written a novel entitled Tomboy: An Epic Journey Of A Child Refugee Becoming A MultiSport World Champion. This is a fictional story based on true events and tells the tale of Jarmila Bartanovic and her mother Sanela, as they struggle to survive their war-torn Bosnia and Herzegovina. Having escaped the carnage and devastation of their homeland, mother and child soon face a different set of life challenges living in their new home of America. The protagonist rises from a homeless refugee to become the highest paid female athlete in the world.
Salim, who is the brother of legendary trainer Adrian Davis, has been involved in the local boxing scene for more than 30 years. Salim has promoted numerous boxing cards in the area including an outdoor card that featured future International Boxing Hall of Famer Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson as he returned to his high school alma mater, Eastern High in Washington, DC, in October of 1995. Salim also managed two prominent heavyweight contenders, Corey "T-Rex" Sanders and Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell. Salim was inducted into the DC Boxing Hall of Fame in 2014.
Salim will have a book signing on Saturday, June 30th at the Barnes and Noble located in the Bowie Town Center, 15606 Emerald Way in Bowie, MD from 11 AM to 4 PM.
