Locals Continue to Progress At National Golden Gloves!

Four DC Region boxers moved into the next round of the National Golden Gloves championships after Wednesday's action at Ralston Arena in Omaha, NB.

At 132 Pounds, Germantown, MD's Tommy Avelar defeated Mitchell Lecounte of Iowa by a 5-0 score.  Nick Sullivan of Portsmouth, VA won his bout in the 140-pound division by a 5-0 decision over Devarius McClendon of Knoxville.

Kelvin Davis of Norfolk, VA continued to advance in the 152-pound division, winning his bout over Josnel Castro of the New England region.  Also, Baltimore, MD's Malik Titus won his bout at 201+ Pounds, defeating Stanley Galloway of the Colorado-New Mexico Region by a 4-1 score.

A number of locals did not advance to the next round.  Kevon Cooke of Washington, DC lost his bout at 108 Pounds by a 5-0 score to Timothy Jarman of St. Louis.  Oscar Morales of DC dropped a 5-0 decision at 114 Pounds to Omar Brown of Michigan.

At 123 Pounds, DC's Dwayne Holmes lost by a close 3-2 score to Noah Contreras of Nevada while Thomas Mottinger of Salisbury, MD lost a 5-0 decision to Deangelo Leachman of Detroit at 201 pounds.

The National Golden Gloves continues until Sunday, May 20th.
