The Washington, DC Region team continues to perform well at the National Golden Gloves in Omaha, NE. This includes one of our female boxers, who was among a contingent of ladies who participated alongside the men for the very first time.
Arlington, VA's Amelia Moore is looking for her second straight National Golden Gloves championship and she is off to a great start as she scored a third-round TKO Tuesday over Myshelle Allen of Nevada. Another Beltway female competitor, Nerissa Turner of Washington, DC, lost her first-round bout at 132 pounds to Erika Sanchez of California by a 5-0 score.
As far as the men, there were a number of quality victories. Germantown, MD's Tommy Avelar won his first bout at 132 pounds, defeating Shamar Lutchman of the Buffalo region by a 5-0 score. Kelvin Davis of Norfolk, VA was successful in his first 152-pound contest, winning a 5-0 decision over Cody Craine of Toledo. Davis looks to follow in the footsteps of his brother Keyshawn who won a national Golden Gloves in 2017.
Four-time regional champion Malik Titus of Baltimore, MD won his first bout at 201+ Pounds defeating Luis Alvarado of Wisconsin by a 4-1 score. Also, Thomas Mottinger of Salisbury, MD won his contest at 201 pounds.
Dover, DE's Ezri Turner lost his bout at 178 pounds dropping a 5-0 decision to Anthony De La Cruz of California.
