Congratulations to Rockville, MD super flyweight Alexandru "Spartan" Marin who won the vacant IBO Inter-Continental Super Flyweight title with a crushing second-round knockout of Michael Ruiz, Jr. of Fresno, CA Saturday at the Masonic Temple in Norfolk, VA.
Marin was the aggressor throughout the contest, backing up Ruiz and landing quality shots to the head and body. Finally, two Marin left hooks sent Ruiz to the canvas. Ruiz could not beat the 10-count and the bout was stopped at 44 seconds of the second round.
Marin remains undefeated at 16-0, 11 KO's and he is now the mandatory challenger for the IBO World Super Flyweight title, currently held by Gideon Buthelezi of South Africa. This is Marin's second IBO-based title, he won the IBO International title in June of 2016. Ruiz falls to 12-5-3, four KO's.
