Along with the Nation's Fight Night card at the Howard Theatre in Washington, DC, a number of Beltway Boxers were in action elsewhere on Saturday, August 12th. Here is a recap.
Four locals participated on the Ponytail Promotions card at the Masonic Temple in Norfolk, VA. Undefeated Bethesda, MD bantamweight Alexandru "Spartan" Marin scored a second-round TKO over former WBA and WBC Interim Minimumweight champion Juan "El Exterminador" Palacios of Managua, Nicaragua.
Marin, a native of Romania, dropped Palacios twice before the bout was stopped at 2:21. Marin, who holds the IBO International Bantamweight championship, is now 14-0, 10 KO's. Palacios has lost five in a row and his record falls to 29-9-2, 22 KO's.
Ashburn, VA super lightweight Seth "Killer B" Billups also remained undefeated by winning a six-round unanimous decision over Rynell Griffin of New Orleans, LA. Billups won by scores of 58-55 across the board to raise his record to 9-0, six KO's while Griffin's record drops to 8-31-2, two KO's.
Also on the card, Ashburn middleweight Carlos Cruz lost a four-round unanimous decision to George Sheppard of Newport News, VA. Cruz is now 1-2, one KO and Sheppard wins his first pro bout and is now 1-2.
DC super lightweight Lamont White lost a six-round unanimous decision to Portsmouth, VA veteran "Dangerous" Dorin Spivey. No scores were given. White is now 1-9, one KO, one NC while Spivey is now 49-7, 33 KO's.
At Turner Hall in Madison, WI, Silver Spring, MD middleweight Ashton "The Goon" Sykes made a successful pro debut with a four-round unanimous decision over Jeffrey Wright of Milwaukee, WI. Sykes won a Washington Golden Gloves championship earlier this year. Wright is now 4-8-1, four KO's.
