Edgewood Arsenal, MD welterweight Emmanuel "Tranzformer" Taylor will have another big bout in store as he will face Lucas Matthysse of Buenos Aires, Argentina on Saturday, May 6 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The bout will be featured on the HBO pay-per-view portion of the Canelo Alvarez-Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. card.
After consecutive losses to Antonio Orozco and Adrien Broner in 2015 and 2014, Taylor (20-4, 14 KO's) recalibrated himself and scored two knockout wins against under-.500 competition in 2016. All four of Taylor's losses have been to quality opponents.
Matthysse (37-4, 34 KO's) has not fought since losing by 10th round TKO to Viktor Postol in October of 2015 in Carson, CA in a bout for the WBC Super Lightweight title. Matthysse suffered a broken orbital bone around his eye in that bout. Matthysse, a former interim world title holder, is also a fan-friendly boxer who has defeated two other Beltway Boxers in his career. He scored an eight-round TKO over Demarcus Corley in January of 2011 and knocked out Lamont Peterson in the third round in May of 2013. Matthysse has also fought the likes of Danny Garcia, Ruslan Provodnikov and John Molina, Jr. during his career.
