Undefeated Baltimore, MD welterweight Malik "Iceman" Hawkins will take a big step up in competition when he takes on fellow undefeated boxer Taras Shelestyuk of Los Angeles, CA by way of the Ukraine in a 10-round bout for the vacant interim NABA Welterweight title on Friday, April 14 at a venue to be determined. The bout will be a co-feature contest on a Showtime ShoBox telecast.
Hawkins (10-0, seven KO's) is coming off a six-round unanimous decision victory over Antonio Chaves Fernandez on November 11 in Sloan, IA. Hawkins has never gone past the sixth round in his pro career.
Shelestyuk (15-0, nine KO's) is looking for his third regional title, already holding the WBA Inter-Continental Welterweight and the NABO Welterweight titles. Shelestyuk made a successful defense of the NABO title in his last bout, winning a 10-round unanimous decision over Jaime Herrera on November 4 in Corona, CA. Shelestyuk also faced Fernandez during his career in January of 2015 and knocked him out in the first round.
