Beltway Boxers Suffer Losses In Bayonne!

The struggle continues for two DC boxers as they lost bouts on a card at the Bayonne Pavilion in Bayonne, NJ.

Heavyweight Alando Pugh was stopped in the first round by Leon Johnson of Newark, NJ.  According to Kurt Wolfheimer of Fightnews.com, Pugh tried to get the upset early in the bout as he pressured Johnson against the ropes. Johnson kept his defense tight and then landed a crushing uppercut that dropped Pugh to the canvas.  The bout was immediately waived off at 2:46. Pugh is now 1-9-1, one KO while Johnson is 2-0, two KO's.

DC welterweight Lamont White was disqualified in the fourth round of his bout with Caleb Hernandez of Paterson, NJ.  Wolfheimer reports that Hernandez targeted the body early in the opening round with heavy hooks. White was in good shape but Hernandez continued the constant pressure, mixing up two and three punch combinations throughout rounds two and three. White went on the bicycle and switched to southpaw to relieve the pressure late in the third. White was not listening to the instructions of Referee Ronald Ali Bashir on breaks. Finally, Bashir had seen enough and disqualified White at 2:29 of the fourth and final round. White remains winless at 0-3.  Hernandez is 3-0, one KO.
