There has been a lot of movement concerning the Shawstyle Promotions/Shabazz Brothers card that will take place on Saturday, May 14 at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, MD. However, some bouts have been made official.
The main event remains the same -- a 10-round bout for the Maryland State Light Heavyweight title pitting Travis "Seveer" Reeves of Baltimore (11-2-2, five KO's) against Larry "Hitman" Pryor of Frederick (9-13, five KO's).
Another bout still on the card will be an eight-round female contest between DC flyweight Tyrieshia "Lady Tyga" Douglas (10-1, four KO's) and Anahi Torres of Tlalnepantla, México (13-13-1, two KO's)
Now, here are some bouts that have been added in the last two weeks:
In a six-round, all-Baltimore welterweight matchup, James "Keep 'Em Sleepin'" Stevenson will take on Kevin "The Scarecrow" Womack, Jr. Stevenson (22-2, 15 KO's) has lost two of his last three contests including an eight-round unanimous decision to Roberto Garcia in April of 2015 in Chicago, IL. Womack (7-10-3, five KO's) has lost five in a row to boxers with a combined won-loss record of 44-1-1. Womack lost his last bout by fourth-round TKO to Ed Brown on November 12 in Cockeysville, MD.
Undefeated Baltimore super middleweight Devin Butcher will compete in his first scheduled six-round contest when he battles Taneal Goyco of Philadelphia, PA. Butcher (5-0, three KO's) has knocked out his last three opponents including a fourth-round TKO of Darryl Watkins on December 12th in Baltimore. Goyco (7-8-1, three KO's) has not fought since winning a six-round unanimous decision over Dennis Hasson in November of 2014 in Valley Forge, PA. The last time Goyco was in Baltimore was in August of 2014 when he lost by fourth-round stoppage to Demond Nicholson at the Patapsco Arena. Goyco has also won in Baltimore as he knocked out Jeremy Trussell in the sixth round in April of 2014 in the same location.
Rockville, MD welterweight Shynggyskhan Tazhibay returns to action in a four-round bout against the debuting Ahmet "The Turk" Kayretli of Fairfax, VA by way of Turkey. Tazhibay, a native of Kazakhstan (3-0, two KO's), went the distance winning a four-round unanimous decision over Riarus Dudley on April 1 in DC. Kayretli makes a transition to boxing from mixed martial arts. Kayretli is 5-1 as an MMA fighter.
Rookie Baltimore super middleweight Stephon "The Surgeon" Morris will take on Derek Ntifo of Georgia in a four-round encounter. Morris (1-0, one KO) made his pro debut on December 12 and scored a second-round TKO over Cassanova Brooks at Du Burns Arena in Baltimore. Ntifo (0-2) last fought in February of last year and lost to Orlando Jewell by second-round TKO in Atlanta, Georgia.
In an all-Baltimore heavyweight contest scheduled for four rounds, rookie Colby Madison (1-0, one KO) will face veteran Lonnie Kornegay. Madison needed just 30 seconds to win his pro debut over Dominique Barnes on April 9 in Springfield, VA. Kornegay (1-12-3) will look to bounce back from a four-round unanimous decision loss to Mike Balogun on July 24 at the Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore. Kornegay is the only boxer to date to take Balogun the distance. In fact, Kornegay has only been knocked out once in his 16-bout career. That knockout loss came in Kornegay's pro debut against Darnell Wilson in September of 2001 in Glen Burnie, MD. Kornegay lost by second-round TKO.
Seat Pleasant, MD featherweight James Early will make his Beltway debut on this card when he takes on Tyshae Ferguson of Danville, VA in a a four-round contest. Early (1-0) made his pro debut in Norfolk, VA on March 5 and won a four-round unanimous decision over Arthur Parker. Ferguson (0-5) lost his last bout by second-round TKO to DeVonte Allen on March 11 in Weirton, WVA.
Baltimore light heavyweight Marvin Farjah Johnson will make his pro debut against the equally-debuting Brian Stevens of Indiana in a four-round. Johnson is the son of legendary Baltimore-based trainer Marvin McDowell.
Also on the card will be undefeated Douro, Ontario, Canada middleweight Cody Crowley (7-0, four KO's) who will take on Corey McCants of Cincinnati, OH (2-14-2, one KO) in a six-round encounter. Crowley last fought on March 19 and won a six-round unanimous decision over Antonio Chaves Fernandez in Boston, MA. Crowley makes his second trip to Baltimore. In his last Charm City outing, Crowley scored a first-round knockout over Kevin Cooper on December 12. McCants has lost four in a row, going the distance each time.
