Amateurs Aplenty In May!

May will be a big month for amateur Beltway Boxing as we will have three cards in the area.  These events will come directly after the Regional Golden Gloves which will take place on Saturday, April 30 at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD.

The first May card will be on Thursday, May 5 as Baltimore Boxing will bring a card to Michael's Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie, MD.  The card will feature the final amateur appearance of Baltimore 154-pounder Joe Veazey who will take on Andre Harris of Pasadena, MD for the East Coast 154-pound championship.  Veazey is a former Ringside World Champion and won a silver medal at the Junior Golden Gloves in 2014.

Also on the card, Tyrell Boyd of the Upton Boxing Club in Baltimore will battle Genc Pllana of the Bowerhouse Academy in Frederick, MD for the East Coast Middleweight title.  Boyd is a former Novice Washington Golden Gloves champion while Pllana is slated to compete for the Regional Open Golden Gloves championship at the same weight on April 30.

The card will serve as a tribute to Murray “Bushwacker” Smith Sr., the father of Baltimore Boxing’s Jake Smith. Smith Sr., a well-known figure in the Baltimore area for decades, was a longtime event promoter who lost his battle with Melanoma in 2013.

Tickets purchased in advance start at $25, reserved seats are $35, reserved tables for ten are $350, $50 VIP seats and $500 VIP tables of 10 can be purchased by calling 410-375-9175. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the fights begin at 8.

Then on Saturday, May 7, there will be a card at the Oxon Hill Staff Development Center, located at 7711 Livingston Road in Oxon Hill, MD.  Scheduled to appear on this card will be Deric Davis, Jamal Harvey, Stacey Selby and Tyreek Williams.  Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under.  Call 301-312-4247 for details.

Friday through Sunday, May 13-15 will be the Regional Junior Olympic Championships which will be held at the Main Street Gym in Salisbury, MD.  There will be boxers from seven states represented.  Single day tickets are $20 and full tournament tickets are $35.  Call (410) 430-6687 for more information.
