The scheduled 10-round light heavyweight bout between Fort Washington, MD's Thomas "Top Dog" Williams, Jr. and Edwin "La Bomba" Rodriguez of Worcester, MA has found a new date and new home. The contest will now be on Saturday, April 30 at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA.
The bout will be part of a tripleheader that will be shown live in prime time on Fox and on Fox Deportes at 8 PM ET. This contest was originally scheduled for March 12 in Mashantucket, CT but that entire card was scrapped.Williams (19-1, 13 KO's) is a former NABO Light Heavyweight champion who is coming off a second-round TKO over Umberto Savigne on November 13 in Biloxi, MS. Rodriguez (28-1, 19 KO's) is ranked number four by the WBC and number 7 by the IBF. Rodriguez last fought on the same November 13 Biloxi card and stopped Michael Seals in three rounds.
Williams, Jr. will be the third Beltway Boxer to be shown on national TV on three consecutive Saturdays in April. Gary Russell, Jr. defends his WBC Featherweight title against Patrick Hyland on April 16 on Showtime, Dominic Wade will challenge Gennady Golovkin on April 23 on HBO. There may be at least one local that will make national television (Spike TV) on the April 1 card at the DC Armory featuring Adrian Broner against Ashley Theophane.
