Only one Beltway Boxer now has a chance to earn a spot on the US Olympic Boxing team as action continues in Reno, NV.
Gary Antuanne Russell of Capitol Heights, MD remained alive in the 141-Pound Challengers Bracket with a 2-1 decision win over Abraham Nova of Albany, NY.
For Tyrek Irby and Marquis Moore, the Olympic journey is over. Irby, of Oxon Hill, MD lost his 141-Pound bout to Jamaine Ortiz-Rodriguez of Worcester, MA by a 3-0 decision. Ortiz-Rodriguez will now face Russell tonight.
Moore, originally from Fort Washington, MD and now competing out of Colorado Springs, CO, lost a 2-1 decision to LeShawn Rodriguez of Medford, NY at 165 pounds.
At the Women's World Team Trials in Reno, Amelia Moore of Millersville, MD won her first bout at 141 pounds, defeating Alycia Baumgardner of Freemont, OH by a 2-1 decision. Moore will face Jajaira Gonzalez of Glendora, CA. The 18-year-old Gonzalez fell one bout short of making the Women's US Olympic team in October.
Baltimore, MD's Franchon Crews will also be in action in Reno as she will take on Tika Hemingway of Brackenridge, PA in a 178-pound contest.
