In early November, Beltway Boxers will be traveling to the bright lights of Las Vegas, NV for three very important contests.
On Friday, November 6, undefeated Burke, VA middleweight Antoine "Action" Douglas will headline a ShoBox card at the D Hotel and Casino as he will face Les "Lock and Load" Sherrington of Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia in a 10-round bout for the vacant WBA International Middleweight title.
Douglas will make his fifth appearance (third in a row) on Showtime with this contest. Douglas is coming off a third-round TKO of previously undefeated Istvan Szili on July 17 in Bethlehem, PA.
Sherrington (35-7, 19 KO's) makes his United States debut after competing mostly in his home country of Australia. Sherrington has not fought since winning a 10-round unanimous decision over Samir Santos Barbosa on December 15 in Queensland.
The next night, undefeated Waldorf, MD super lightweight Mike "Yes, Indeed" Reed will make his second straight trip to Las Vegas when he faces Oscar "Raton" Cortes of Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico on Saturday, November 7 at the Thomas and Mack Center. The bout will be on the undercard of the double main event featuring Timothy Bradley defending his WBO Welterweight title against Brandon Rios and Vasyl Lomachenko putting his WBO Featherweight crown up against Romulo Koasicha.
Reed (16-0, nine KO's) made a successful Vegas debut in his last outing on September 11 when he scored a fifth-round TKO over Antonio Canas at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Highlights of the bout were shown on the TruTV telecast that evening.
Cortes (25-2, 13 KO's) is the most experienced foe Reed has faced although all of his bouts have been in his home country of Mexico. Cortes has not fought since winning an eight-round unanimous decision win over Heberto Persico on Ocotber 25 of 2014 in Durango.
We are also hearing word that "Mr." Gary Russell, Jr.'s WBC Featherweight championship title defense against Oscar Escandon will also be in Vegas on Saturday, November 14 at the Hard Rock Cafe and Casino. That bout will be on Showtime.
Between now and mid-November, Beltway Boxers will make seven appearances on national or worldwide TV. We will bring you the schedule in a separate post.
