Fifth Annual McKnight Invitational To Be Held Saturday In Northeast DC!

The fifth annual Dr. Arnold W. McKnight Amateur Boxing, Kickboxing and MMA Invitational will be held on Saturday, September 12 at the Deanwood Recreation Center located at 1350 49th Street in Northeast DC.

The event is held in memory and honor of Arnold McKnight, the longest-serving chair of the DC Boxing and Wrestling Commission, who passed away in 2007.

A number of people will be honored during the event for their contributions to boxing and the DC community:

Adrian and Brenda Davis -- the legendary duo who owned Round One gymnasium and worked with numerous boxers for decades

Former IBF Junior Welterweight champion Lamont Peterson -- a shining example of what can be accomplished by a local boxer.

Legendary Beltway Boxer Johnny Gant along with his daughter, renowned educator Sirraya Gant. Gant was a major force in Beltway Boxing in the 70's and had a memorable bout with Sugar Ray Leonard at the Capital Centre in the late 70's.   The Gants will come from Atlanta.

Also honored will be renowned domestic violence awareness advocate QueenAfi Gaston.  Several members of DC government are scheduled to attend including DC Mayor Muriel Bowser.

This is a free event that will also have free food, courtesy of Ben's Chili Bowl.  The event will begin at noon.
