It looks like some of our Beltway Boxers will be a part of some big events in the early weeks of September.
BATB can confirm that undefeated Waldorf, MD super lightweight Mike "Yes, Indeed" Reed will be participating on a card at the The Cosmopolitan at Las Vegas (NV) on Friday, September 11. Reed (15-0, eight KO's) is coming off an eight-round unanimous decision victory over Luis Joel Gonzalez on June 13 at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The bout will be part of a TruTV telecast. No word yet on who the opponent for Reed will be or whether the bout will make the telecast.
The card will also take place the night before the Floyd Mayweather contest on Saturday, September 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather announced earlier today that he will face Andre Berto in this bout. There may be a Beltway Boxer on this card as well. Baltimore, MD featherweight Gervonta "Tank" Davis has been spending a lot of time with the Mayweather camp in recent weeks and it looks like Davis (11-0, 10 KO's) might make an appearance on this card. No official word on that yet, however.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, September 15, Fort Washington, MD light heavyweight Thomas "Top Dog" Williams, Jr. will return to action in Pittsburgh, PA with a bout against Umberto Savigne of Miami, FL. The bout will be a co-feature and will be carried on Fox Sports 1 as part of its new Premier Boxing Champions "Toe-To-Toe Tuesdays" series.
Williams (18-1, 12 KO's) bounced back from suffering his first pro loss and won a 10-round unanimous decision over Michael Gbenga on December 12 in Chicago, IL. Savigne (12-2, nine KO's) will try to bounce back from a second-round TKO loss to Craig Baker on February 20 in Pittsburgh.
We'll have updates on these bouts as they come in.
