Antuanne Russell Captures Gold Medal At US Olympic Trial Qualifier!

Capitol Heights, MD 141-pounder Gary Antuanne Russell captured a gold medal at the US Olympic Trials Qualifier in Colorado Springs, CO on Saturday.  Russell's opponent pulled out of the final contest due to illness.

Older brother, former US Olympian and current WBC Featherweight champion Gary Russell, Jr. was on hand to present the gold medal to his sibling.

Antuanne is the third member of the Russell family to earn a berth to the Olympic Trials (Gary, Jr. in 2008, Antonio in 2012).

Millersville, MD 132-pounder Amelia Moore lost her consolation bout to Stalacia Leggett of San Diego, CA by a 2-1 decision.

One other boxer with local ties won a gold medal at this competition.  Marquis Moore won the 165 pound championship.  Moore, originally from Fort Washington, MD, moved to Colorado Springs, CO after serving in the US Army.

The next Olympic Trials Qualifier will be in Baltimore, MD September 5-12.
