This late report from this past Saturday at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA. Haymarket, VA welterweight Juan "The Savior" Rodriguez scored a fifth-round TKO over previously undefeated Nathaniel Rivas of Berlin, NJ.
Here's the report from Kurt Wolfheimer of Fightnews.com:
"Rodriguez started quickly, dropping Rivas with a left hook, just seconds into the opening round. Rivas rose to his feet, but Rodriguez kept pounding away. Rivas eventually regained his senses and landed a good right just before the bell sounded to end the opening round. Rivas had solid welts on both cheeks as he entered the second round. Rodriguez was game, but it looked like the power of Rivas, who was taking over during rounds two through four. Rivas seemed like he was going to take over the fight in the fifth, however, a short right hand stunned him. Rodriquez jumped on Rivas with four unanswered punches, before dropping him in the corner. Rivas beat the count, but Rodriguez wouldn’t let him breath, banging away with reckless abandon. Rivas was taking excessive punishment when hall of fame referee Steve Smoger stepped in and called a halt to the contest at 1:01 of the fifth round."
Rodriguez is now 6-2-1, five KO's while Rivas falls to 5-1, two KO's.
