BATB has learned that Upper Marlboro, MD lightweight Lamont Roach, Jr. will make his pro debut on the Bernard Hopkins-Beibut Shumenov undercard on Saturday, April 19 at the DC Armory in Washington, DC.
Roach, a recent Golden Boy Promotions signee and 2013 National Golden Gloves champion. will take on Victor Galindo of Puerto Rico (1-3, one KO) in a four-round encounter.
Who is Gervonta Davis fighting April 24 in Cali?
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen an opponent listed yet.
ReplyDeleteLamont Roach Jr will be a world class champ
ReplyDeleteThis fight will last about 30 seconds. I would have liked to seen him fight someone a little tougher like a Christian Steele (4-8-2) who's combined opponents record is 55-2-2 or Samuel Quinones Jr (5-2) given his incredible amateur success. A similarly great amateur who recently turned pro in Erickson Lubin (4-0) has fought a 1-0, 4-0, 13-12, and 4-1 fighter.
ReplyDeleteWhat would be the purpose of fighting someone of that status in a pro debut? Erickson Lubin has had close to 200 amateur bouts. Doesn't make a lot of sense.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't saying fight Lubin, I was saying he should fight tougher guys like Steele or Quinones. I used Lubin as an example of a great am who has fought tough guys in the beginning, a 1-0, 4-0, and 4-1 opponent.
ReplyDeleteGolden Boy and Al Haymon prospects are matched so damn soft. Look what happened to Adrien Broner when he finally fought somebody who could throw hard punches back. Same thing will happen to Deontay Wilder and Gary Russell Jr. Wilder actually does want tougher fights and is mandatory for Stiverne-Arreola winner for WBC belt so props to him. But Gary who's been saying he wants title shot and wants tougher fights is now running from mandatory fight against Lomachenko for WBO belt.
ReplyDeleteActually, Russell is not running from a bout with Lomachenko. The bout is going to a purse bid. Apparently Top Rank and Golden Boy could not come to an agreement yet.
ReplyDeleteI know it is going to purse bid, it was no surprise due to the GB-TR Cold War, but I've heard from multiple credible sources including ESPN's Dan Rafael that Russell is unlikely to accept bout and is looking at other (easier) ways to a title.
ReplyDeleteHow easy 2 a title can u get the guy gary is fighting only has a couple of fights. Gary is suppose 2 knock this guy out . As for lamont roach, I think he shouldve waited longer. Atleast until after this years golden gloves.
DeleteThat's not true Gary,Jr is going to take the fight....nd he's not looking for easy fights but s smart business man going to put himself in a bad situation. In the sport of boxing you got to be smart so you don't get BS deal...
ReplyDeleteTrue I think gary,jr and his father are very smart business man. Make sure they get the best deal possible and don't get caught up in a slave contract. Believe me all you doubters of gary,jr he's going to destroy this guy in win the WBO Belt.
