David Jordan, PVA and DC Commission Official, Passes!

Unfortunately, we end what has been a glorious Beltway Boxing weekend on a very sad note.
BATB has learned that long-time DC Boxing and Wrestling Commission and Potomac Valley Association official David Jordan passed away this afternoon. No official word yet as to the reason for his passing. Mr. Jordan is on the left in this photo with one of his mentees, Brent Bovell.
Mr. Jordan was involved as a judge and inspector on numerous DC boxing cards over an almost 30-year career, including last night's Bernard Hopkins-Beibut Shumenov card at the DC Armory.
Mr. Jordan's first love, however, was the amateurs where he served as a referee, judge and a former vice president of the Potomac Valley Association of USA Boxing.
This is a tremendous loss. I normally arrive to a boxing card in DC about an hour before bell time. Usually, one of the first people I would get a chance to talk with at that early time would be David Jordan. I'm going to cherish the many conversations he and I had over these many years about the state of boxing in this area. He was such a nice man and my deepest condolences go out to his family and the DC Boxing community.
More info on Mr. Jordan as it comes in.
Rest In Peace Mr. Jordan
ReplyDeleteThe always pleasant Mr. David Jordan will be missed dearly. When I would attend the weigh-ins and fight cards he would always great me with a smile and hand shake. It looked like he loved spending time at the fights because he always had that kind of expression on his face. My condolences go out to the family and friends. I'll pray the God gives them the strength to remember Mr. Jordan and keep him in their hearts forever.
ReplyDeleteMy mentor. DJ took me under his wings 19 yrs.ago, and groomed into the referee that I am. His knowledge and wisdom will be greatly missed.
