BATB has learned that Upper Marlboro, MD lightweight Lamont Roach, Jr. has signed a promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions and will look to make his pro debut sometime in May.
Roach capped off a stellar amateur career in 2013 by winning the National Golden Gloves and the USA Nationals in his weight class and earning a bronze medal at the Klitschko Brothers Tournament in Ukraine.
Unlike many of his Beltway brethren, Roach did not sign with manager Al Haymon. Roach's father, Lamont, Sr. will serve as manager. Roach, Jr. joins his No Xcuse gym mate D'Mitrius Ballard as Golden Boy signees.
Any and all amateurs looking to turn pro, should do so now!!! Golden Boy and Al Haymon are about to go separate ways. They are signing anyone and everyone right now. The good thing about this, is the DMV have really good amateurs. Therefore, both sides win. Lamont Sr. has trained his son well and will also serve as an excellent manager. Good Luck to you both.
ReplyDeleteSound like a straight hater with the last post. Al Haymon and Golden Boy are not signing just anybody. Don't think Reemo, Tank, Roach Jr. Anthony and Lamont Peterson are any and everybody. Stop Hating.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Roach Jr. and all the other locals that got signed. Keep up the good work.
Go DMV!!!!
Just because you turn pro doesn't mean you'll get signed AND to say they are signing anyone and everyone right now is just stupid.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great proven father and son team.
ReplyDeleteWish you all the best and hope you two accomplish all the things
everybody already knows your capable of doing.
