Beltway Boxers Continue Travels!

A few more Beltway Boxers are making road trips in December.  We already told you about Antoine Douglas and Jerry Odom heading to BB King's Blues Club and Grill in New York City on Wednesday, December 4.  Odom (5-0, five KO's, one NC) now has an opponent for that card -- Eric Moon of Hazel Park, MI (1-3).  The bout will be scheduled for six rounds.  Douglas (10-0, six KO's) will battle fellow undefeated boxer Colby Courter of St. Joseph, MO (4-0, four KO's) in another six-round encounter.

We are getting word that Baltimore, MD super middleweight Maxell "The General" Taylor is slated to compete against Maxim Vlasov of Samara, Russia in an eight-round bout at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, CA.  This will be the first bout for Taylor (18-5-1, eight KO's) since his seventh-round TKO loss to Phil Jackson Benson for the WBC Fecarbox Super Middleweight title on May 11 in Millersville, MD.  Vlasov (27-1, 13 KO's)  fought one month ago on November 4 and scored a sixth-round TKO over Artem Redko in Krasnodar, Russia.

Next week on Friday, December 13, DC light heavyweight Richard McCombs returns to action to face Cian Dalton of Pittsburgh, PA by way of Ireland in a four-round bout at the Serbian American Cultural Center in Weirton, WVA. McCombs (1-5, one KO) will try to bounce back from his first-round TKO loss to Khalib Whitmore on August 23 in Valley Forge, PA.  Dalton (2-0-1, one KO) is coming off a four-round draw with James Robinson on August 3 in Belle Vernon, PA.

  1. McCombs needs to retire before he gets seriously hurt. Gary, what is the holdup for keystone not announcing the full lineup of fights yet for the show on friday night at rosecroft? You would think they would want the public to know who the local guys are fighting with the fights only being 4 days away.

  8. I don't blame McCombs for trying to do something he loves. I do blame a commission for approving any fight involving any fighter who has been in 6 fights and knocked out in the first round 5 straight times. Boxing Commissions have a responsibility to not sanction fights where it is clearly established that a fighter does not have the skills to defend himself against other professional fighters.

  11. 5.864 Doesn't surprise me one bit that George is having trouble making weight. He hasn't fought in 16 months and last time he did fight he was 174, 16 pounds heavier then limit for this fight. They should have found a real 160 or 154 fighter for Jarrett, cuz George is no longer a junior middleweight. What is the word on the rest of the card, and when will the whole card be released with the fights only being three days away. Usually keystone releases card a week or two ahead of time.

  13. Here's the latest on the Keystone card from conversations with the promotion.

As of 12:30 this afternoon, the Hurd-Armenta bout is still on.

The hold-up on announcing the card is trying to match Mike Reed. That may be solved by tomorrow.

Keystone is just waiting for a confirmation on this before they allow me to announce the card. By the way, Demond Nicholson is not on this card -- he will be on the DC card on December 14.

On another note, Richard McCombs is now off the card in West Virginia. He suffered an injury in camp.

  15. Scheduled to be January 24th on ESPN2 against Chris Algieri. I haven't got official confirmation on that nor on where the bout is. But that is what I have been told. It's pretty much a done deal.

  19. A lot of Boxers just don't have LOYALTY anymore. Let anybody get in their ears a they leave the ones that raised them and got their best interest. Funny thing is they always come running back.

  20. WBC #4/IBF #7/WBO #12 super middleweight Maxim Vlasov (28-1, 14 KOs) scored a fourth round KO over Maxell Taylor (18-6-1, 8 KOs) in The Hangar at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, California. A right hand ended Taylor’s night.
