Courtesy of ProAm Fight Talk With Juan Marshall, here is a recap of tonight's Top Flight Promotions card at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC:

Alexandria, VA middleweight Brandon Quarles made short work of Boston, MA's Jimmy "The Dream" LeBlanc, stopping the veteran at 42 seconds of the second round. Quarles bounces back nicely from suffering his only pro loss and is now 10-1-1, three KO's.  LeBlanc falls to 13-25-4, five KO's, one NC.

DC middleweight Demond Nicholson stopped Teron Walker of Danville, VA at 1:35 of the first round using nice head and body shots.  Nicholson is now 2-0, two KO's while Walker drops to 0-4.

DC light heavyweight "Mr. Amazing" Greg Newby remained undefeated with a second-round TKO of James Jones of Nashville, TN.  Newby dropped Jones twice with body shots before the bout was stopped at 2:40 of the second round.  Newby is now 9-0, five KO's while Jones is 1-4.

Junior welterweight Antonio "Teflon" Magruder needed just 35 seconds to stop the debuting Anthony Dave of Canton, OH.  Magruder is now 2-0, two KO's.

In the only bout to go the distance, DC lightweight Joshua "Marvelous Moe" Parker won a four-round majority decision over Luis Rodriguez of Miami, FL.  Parker won the bout by scores of 39-37 (twice).  One judge saw the draw at 38-38.  Parker is now 3-0, two KO's while Rodriguez falls in his pro debut.

Accokeek, MD junior middleweight "Swift" Jarrett Hurd opened the card with a third-round knockout of DC's Issa Coulibaly.  A Hurd right hand dropped Coulibaly to the canvas for the count at 1:59 of the round.  Hurd is now 8-0, five KO's while Coulibaly falls to 1-5.

Brian Dillon served as matchmaker while the ring announcer was Henry "Discombobulating" Jones.

  1. Are you saying that based on reading the results or are you saying that because you witnessed the card in person?

  2. Which fight was that

  3. I'm saying that because I was there. It was a classic Brian Dillon card. He matches up rising prospects with overmatched opponents and the fights don't last long.

  4. Which fight was competive

  5. Brian Dillon can only do as much as the promoter's budget allows him to. If you are saying Brian Dillon can't match competitive fights, you a dead wrong. But he can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit.

And another thing, don't make the mistake of thinking all the 'rising prospects' in this area want to be matched up tough. I doubt all seven opponents on this card were Dillon's first choice. Its not like the managers of prospects in this area are banging down his door asking for hard fights. And most won't take the hard fights, even if there is a promoter willing to pay it!

I'm not a Brian Dillon apologist, but matchmaking isn't as easy as it looks.

  6. The Parker-Rodriguez fight was the only one to go the distance.

    1. Yup and a very close fight .. Parker would have lost anywhere else

  7. Brian Dillon is also the matchmaker for the Sept. 7 card at Rosecroft. On paper, that is a very competitive card.

  8. I can only do what I can do, sometimes my hands are just so tied with who and how and for how much. I would love nothing more than to have 8 barn burners every show, but that will never happen for many reasons. Something tells me though even if I were to pull that off someone of y'all would gripe anyways.

I do what I can with what I got. Don't sweat though I have matched my final card in Washington DC tonight.

  10. its not the match makers fault. he is telling truth about having no money to work with. its not barnett the promoters fault either, he is broke from the last failed show. its really no exact person to blame. it is what it is. think about it, hardly anyone showed up to watch the fights, the place was near empty. how does anyone get money to keep going on. unfortunatley, brian will no longer match any cards in washington dc and barnett will stop promoting. there is just no more money to give away. give these guys credit for trying to help the local boxers.

  11. When is the next time danny kelly fight I though he was on this card

  12. What was the attendance like? Brian did a great job on the first Top Flight show. It's not his fault if the "A" side isn't willing to fight anyone and that's often the case with rising prospects or fighters whose camp believe they are prospects whether they are or not.

  13. Than you very much for the offer Brian, but I already bought tickets to the show. I am excited for it as it does look like a competitive card. I understand that you have a hard job, not much money to work with, and that a lot of young prospects want easy fights to build up there records, I just wish there were more competitive fights on beltway cards.

  14. a damn shame what happen the first fight and im from dc and hurd was to much for that other guy. the opponent should fire his team. he got ko'd and his team knew he would because they from the same area. who was his coach?

  15. Gary is it true that Mark Toosharp is working with Mike Tyson and now is going to be signing fighters from Dc and they will working with Tyson

  16. How can people pay $50 for a ringside seat and complain about the quality of the fights . Most of the ringside seats were empty. A local prospects job is to train and get ready for his shot, while building up a résumé that qualifies him to be there. People would rather see them all fight each other here and go nowhere. Typical DMV logic !!!

  17. I haven't heard that but I will talk to him about it.

  18. Come on now its not true. Some shows are bad but in this case I do see what people mean. You see the same guys every month our other month fighting a bum . Our I guy with a lopsided record. You never see guys who
are cocoming up fighting guys on tv with 2-7 our 7-19. Think about it. So I understand what people are talking about. Its not about them taking a shot at Dmv fighters. Maybe the people saying this know we have talent here. But we hide it and waste it fighting lesser fighters. Look Alexander and Quarles should have been in there with better boxers. Doesn't matter if LeBlanc was a season fighter. He was a season fighter who lost a lot. You guys where just on here a few months ago saying how sorry it was to watch LeBlanc against Jeter. To all the promoters take a hint your never going to fill the hse, unless you take a chance and put real fights on. I know about building recoreds and at least Hurd,Alexander,Quarles should have had better opponents in front of them. Other then that don't waste your money on the bum fights. Take that money and put it in on having a better show. Where you will make money and have a full hse and help local talent get ready for the big leagues. Other then you guys keep up the hard work.

  19. You forget that Quarles took a step up in his last bout and lost a unanimous decision to undefeated Daquan Arnett. Quarles needed a bounce back contest. Johnson fought for just the second time in almost two years. These were different scenarios for those guys.

  20. My bad Brian I meant to say thank you for the ticket offer not than you. I already bought my ticket but how about I meet you at the gate or inside and you give me 60 dollars which is the cost of my ticket.

  21. News coming soon. Three DMV fighters going with Iron Mike.
The former “Baddest Man on the Planet” is starting his own promotional company, according to ESPN.

"I thought about it, I talked to my wife [Kiki] about it and we thought we wanted to do it," Tyson said in an interview with ESPN2's "Friday Night Fights" about his Iron Mike Productions. "I feel so awesome to be involved with the game again. That just feels so awesome."

Tyson, who hasn’t fought since losing to Kevin McBride in 2005, hammered out a deal with Florida-based promotional company Acquinity Sports and changed its name to Iron Mike Productions. The company’s first card will take place Aug. 23, headlined by junior-lightweight champion Argenis Mendez defending his title against Arash Usmanee

  22. Why did 3 out-of-town boxers not get paid? Why is Brian Dillon angry with Tye Barnett? Why is Albert Roderigous filing charges against Top Flight Productions?

    ReplyDelete
  23. again none of this is the match makers fault. he stood by the away fighters. he is trying to help them. match maker always looks like the bad guy but his not. he never touchs the money and cant rip no one off if he wated to. they used him to get fights and used him to look like bad person to.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Let me be clear about this. Only 1 person did not get paid. That's because there is a stipulation in the contract as was pointed out to me by the Commission if the fighter doesn't give an honest effort or lays down the promoter has the right to hold up or not pay the purse.

Now in my honest opinion I felt Leblanc tried Quarles was just too much for a 39 year old guy, but people will have different of opinions and the promoters was different than many other ringside observers.

Now in regards to being MAD at TY, I ain't mad I am just not used to how people do business, everyone does it differently and TY and I have professional differences. I am willing to BET TY doesn't care how I do some things and that is his right. So you do the best with what you got.

Now I always try to stick up for ALL fighters not just the out of town guys. Although I will try to help them more often because they usually come to town by themselves and don't have anyone to speak up for them. After all the opponents are (IMO) what keeps this entire thing going.

  25. If I may, this was something Ty made clear in his first promotion earlier this year. This was not something Ty decided to do at the last minute.
