Pro Boxing Is Part of The Summer Heat in the Beltway!

For those of you making your summer plans, you might want to make them around these dates for July, in particular, will be a big month for pro boxing in the Beltway region.

Remember, we have this coming Saturday, June 15 at the Washington Convention Center in DC for the Top Flight Promotions card and Saturday, June 22 has Hardwork Promotions at the Frederick Fight Club in Frederick, MD.

As we move into July, we have Saturday, July 13 at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD with a Keystone Boxing card that is slated to include "Swift" Jarrett Hurd, Mike "Yes Indeed" Reed and "Mr. Amazing" Greg Newby.

We've already told you about the Saturday, July 20 card at Coppin State University in Baltimore, MD that is slated to feature Gervonta "Rambo" Davis and Tyrieshia "Lady Tiger" Douglas. We are also hearing that this will be a pro-am card that is slated to feature the likes of Joey Veazey, Lorenzo "Truck" Simpson and Mia "Killer Bee" Ellis.

Right now, the only pro show we know about in August is a Jeter Promotions card that is tentatively slated for August 3 at Club One Fitness.   Both Tony "Mo Better" Jeter and Phil Jackson Benson are scheduled to defend their WBC Fecarbox titles on the card.

Looking ahead to September, we can confirm that there will be a Jimmy Lange Boxing Promotions card on Saturday, September 21 at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.

What we can't completely confirm is who is going to be on that card.  Right now, it looks like WBC Women's Middleweight champion Tori "Sho Nuff" Nelson will have a title bout on the card and Todd "White Lightning" Wilson is slated to participate.  We can't even confirm that Jimmy Lange himself will be on the card as he is still recovering from knee surgery.  We've been told he is back in the gym but whether he will be ready by September 21 remains a mystery.

  4. Any idea who Jimmy Lange's opponent might be if he is ready in time for September 21st?

  5. I've heard Jimmy will face Doel Carrasquillo if he is healthy by September 21st. Can you confirm if that will be his opponent or someone else Gary?

  6. I've heard a few names -- Carrasquillo is one, Joachim Alcine is another but I talked to Johnny Lange directly and NOTHING is definite regarding his son. He hadn't even heard the Alcine rumor.

  7. I've heard Jimmy is going to fight Cecil McCalla on September 21st. What do you think of that matchup if it turns out to be true Gary?

  8. Gary, I have heard all three names McCalla, Carrasquillo, and Alcine tossed around as the possible opponent for Jimmy on September 21st. Which guy would you like to see Jimmy fight the most?

  9. It probably won't be Alcine because Alcine just fought -- and lost -- last night in Brooklyn.

Doel Carrasquillo would probably be the safest bet out of the three because Lange will get some work and the odds of him losing are slim.

I would be surprised if it ends up being McCalla. McCalla may outwork Lange at this stage. McCalla also seems to be improving on his power a little bit. McCalla hasn't fought the competition that Lange has though.

Lange-McCalla would probably be the best matchup and a matchup that would be nice for the area. Carrasquillo, however, makes more sense for Lange at this point.

  10. I have been told by McCalla's camp that he has not been contacted to face Lange. That fight won't happen.

  11. Gary, so it looks like the most likely opponent for Jimmy on September 21st if he is healthy in time to fight on the card is Doel Carrasquillo? Any other possible opponents for Jimmy in September that you have heard of?

  12. No. Again, the first thing is to get Lange healthy. Those are the only names I have heard at this moment.

  13. I've heard the name Yuri Foreman thrown around as possible opponent for Jimmy. It makes sense, Yuri is still fighting B level fighters in his comeback after his loss to Cotto and Jimmy fits the bill.

  14. Do you agree with that Gary? Would Jimmy be a good fit for Yuri?

  15. Foreman would be an interesting choice for Lange. However, it may not happen in September. Foreman is slated to fight July 24 in New York City.
