BATB has learned that Edgewood, MD junior welterweight Emmanuel "Tranzformer" Taylor has signed for a bout on Friday, July 19 that will be for the NABF 140-pound title and the top ranking in the WBC. The bout will be shown on ESPN2 and will be held at the Paramount Theatre in Huntington, NY.
Taylor (17-1, 12 KO's) has had an incredible 2013 thus far scoring knockout victories on national television in his last two outings. On January 25, Taylor stopped Raymond Serrano in the sixth round at the Paramount on a Showtime ShoBox telecast. Taylor then got up off the canvas to knock out Victor Cayo in the eighth round on March 8 in Atlantic City, NJ on an ESPN2 card. Taylor is currently ranked sixth by the IBF and 12th by the WBC.
Taylor is slated to face Albert "Tornado" Mensah of Joliet, IL by way of Ghana. Mensah (27-4-1, 12 KO's) has won two straight bouts in his native Ghana after his loss to Denis Shafikov by 12-round decision for the IBF International and WBC Baltic Junior Welterweight titles on December 1 in Quintana Roo, Mexico. Mensah's biggest win was against former WBO Interim lightweight champ Michael Katsidis for the IBF International title in April of 2012.
Does that mean we may see an all-Beltway battle of Taylor-Peterson before too long if both keep winning?
ReplyDeleteThat is a possibility. Although a Taylor win would actually put him closer to Danny Garcia, the WBC champ because he would be ranked number one in the WBC.
