Jargal, Newby to Appear on Fight Night Card Thursday Night!

Despite the challenges of Hurricane Sandy, the annual Fight Night charity boxing card will go on as scheduled Thursday night, November 1 at the Washington Hilton Hotel in DC.  Two local boxers are slated to be on the three-bout boxing card.

Arlington, VA lightweight "The Mongolian Mongoose" Bayan Jargal is in the feature bout -- the eight-round "Fight For Children" title bout.  However, Fightnews.com recently reported that his scheduled opponent -- Lonnie Smith -- is AWOL and a new opponent is being sought.  Matchmaker Eric Bottjer (who cut his boxing teeth here in the Beltway region as a reporter and created a newsletter that is a forerunner of this very blog) told Fightnews that Jargal will remain on the card.

DC light heavyweight Greg Newby will be in action on this card taking on the debuting Tacuna Farmer of Baltimore, MD.  Newby (1-0, one KO) won his pro debut on August 25 with a first-round knockout of Gavin Hume at the Washington Convention Center in DC.

Newport News, VA heavyweight Jerry "Slug" Forrest also will appear on the card in a bout against Brice Ritani-Coe of Las Vegas, NV.  Forrest (1-0, one KO) won his pro debut by first-round TKO over Keon Graham on August 4 at the Renaissance Hotel in DC.  Ritani-Coe (3-0-1, three KO's) is a native of New Zealand who last fought to a four-round draw against Kourtney Boden on July 20 in Laughlin, NV.

Among the legends scheduled to appear at the card are Sugar Ray Leonard, Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker, Michael Spinks, Aaron "The Hawk" Pryor, James "Buster" Douglas, Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini, "The Easton Assassin" Larry Holmes and "Gentleman" Gerry Cooney,
