Debuting Boxers Score First-Round Victories in DC!

All eyes tonight were on the young boxers making their pro debuts on the Babie Girl Productions card tonight at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, DC.  They did not disappoint as they made short work of their opponents scoring first-round knockouts.

DC flyweight  Tyrieshia "Baby Girl" Douglas stopped the debuting Ashley "First Lady" Langston of Wilson, NC at 1:46 of the first.  After being led to the ring by a spoken word artist named "Beautiful Believer," Douglas went right to work landing solid right hands against Langston.  One Douglas right literally popped Langston in her mouth and stopped her in her tracks, drawing blood from her mouth. Langston seemed to be unaware of what to do and referee Sharon Sands stopped the contest.

DC welterweight David "Day-Day" Grayton scored a first-round stoppage over Gregory Joyner of Wilson, NC.  Grayton pummeled Joyner for the duration of the contest, forcing referee Michelle Myers to stop the contest at 1:16 of the round.  Joyner is 0-4.

Heavyweight Danny "Smooth" Kelly of DC stopped Orion Bolds of Canton, OH with a short body shot that crumpled Bolds to the canvas at 2:01 of the first.  Bolds could not beat Sands's count.

But it was Newport News, VA heavyweight Jerry"Slug" Forrest who had the shortest debut along with one of the best post-bout celebrations seen in the area in a long time.  Forrest needed just 41 seconds to land brutal right hands and stop Keon Graham of Canton, OH (0-3).  After the win, the 235-pound Forrest honored his fellow Virginian and new gymnastic champion Gabby Douglas by turning backflips and doing cartwheels to celebrate his victory.

Also on the card, White Plains, MD lightweight Terron "Kid" Grant remained undefeated with a 41-second demolition of Deiverious Sanders of Zeblin, GA.  Grant landed solid body shots that made Sanders fall face first.  Grant is now 3-0, two KO's while Sanders is 0-4.

DC female heavyweight Kaelon Hollon made it two straight against Philadelphia, PA's Kasondra Hardnett.  Hollon won a majority decision over Hardnett in March, but had a little easier time in this outing as she established the jab and used great side-to-side movement against the somewhat stationery Hardnett to win a four-round unanimous decision.  Hollon is 3-0 while Hardnett is 1-4.

The main event saw Ivanhoe, NC heavyweight Donnell "The Real Touch of Sleep" Holmes win a six round unanimous decision over Wilson, NC's Maurice "The South Soldier" Winslow.

We were unable to blog live tonight because Wi-Fi wasn't readily available in the ballroom where the card was held.  We were, however, able to record a Post-Fight Wrap-Up on our brand new system, Spreaker.  Here is myself alongside "The Fight Doctor" Jerome Spears.

  1. 230+ pound men should not be able to do backflips! That was impressive!

  4. Ok Mr Williams .
    Here we go again.
What is you honest thoughts on this show?
Do you have the same kind of opinion as you did about all of the first round Knockouts from the recent shows in DC?
And why bring Gabby into the picure?
Let me guess,it's because she's from Virginia right.
    I don't think so.
Your best buddy from down south.

  5. Actually, it WAS because the boxer was from Virginia -- If you listened -- actually listened -- to the post-fight I said "the same GENERAL REGION as Gabby Douglas."

Jerry Forrest is from Newport News, VA, Douglas is from Virginia Beach. They aren't that far away. No race was thought of in that instance so reign in your horses please!

Some of the knockouts were against boxers who gave no competition. As we have learned, any time we see the city of Wilson, NC, most of the time -- and I've said it before -- it usually is "you call, we fall."

The debuters put on good performances and excited the crowd. I don't expect pro debuters to have hard opponents first time out.

  6. Do you know of any heavyweight women in the area other than Kaelan and Kasondra?

  7. Unless I am overrating them, Kelly and Forrest are going to have a lot of quick knockouts in their early fights. It's going to take some experienced, talented fighters to give them rounds.

Unless I'm wrong, those are two heavyweights who can go a long way in pro boxing.

  11. To answer the question, not to my knowledge. I don't know if there are any other female heavyweights.

That has been a problem for Hollon since she started as an amateur. She told me that she realizes that she will have to do some traveling if she wants to continue. Hardnett is from Philadelphia and may find that an issue too.

First of all, your right, debuters should not have a hard opponent BUT not a person off the streets either. Thats why when MD, DC, VA guys go out of town and fight the come back with a big fat L. smh.

  15. Lol that won't work with Day Day and Dusty. You will never stir bullshit up between them. They are friends and visit eachothers gyms all the time for sparring. Nice try though. The kid is only 17 and mentioned to Pipes that he never even reads this stuff. He's too busy peddaling his bicycle up to the local basketball court. I spoke to Joe Hensley yesterday and everyone knows that this is not him posting dumb shit. Joe is a class act and just like Day Day & Dusty, people are jealous of Joe too. Both youngins are now under the same promoter and the future looks bright. I seen the new corner jackets along with the boxing outfit. I myself with them both well and think the choice they made was a wise one.

  16. Thanks classy RCW! Joe, I'm defining what a hater is for you!!

A person that simply cannot be happy for another person's success. So rather than be happy they make a point of exposing a flaw in that person. Peace!!!

  17. Harold, Dusty and Day-Day ain't going no where. Playing patty-cake and chumming around gets you nowhere. Ain't tough enough. TZK you a big fat loser. You been that way since middle school. Bad influence on the kids.

  18. What to hell is a spoken word artist?

  19. A slam poet. Not necessarily a rapper but sort of a cross between a poet and a rapper. Gil Scott-Heron was a spoken word artist, using music and poetry. Listen to "The Revolution will not be Televised" as an example.
