Barnett Stopped in Ninth Round in Vegas!

DC lightweight Ty Barnett's bid for a nationally-televised upset was thwarted tonight at Texas Station Gambling Hall and Casino in Las Vegas as undefeated Mercito "No Mercy" Gesta of San Diego, CA scored a ninth-round TKO.

Barnett had his moments early on in the bout as he landed good jabs through the first three rounds.  By round five, however, Gesta picked up the pace offensively and landed some solid punches with the right hand.

Gesta went into overdrive in the ninth and battered Barnett around the ring, knocking him down twice.  The second knockdown looked like a punch that landed after the bell but the punch looked like it started before the bell and Gesta couldn't stop it.  Referee Jay Nady stopped the contest at 2:59 of the round.

Barnett is now 20-3-1, 13 KO's.  All three of his losses have come by knockout.  Gesta is now 26-0-1, 14 KO's.

  2. I honestly believe that had he kept Andrew Council,he would have won that fight. He was landing straight right hands on a regular basis wich is something that Andrew taught him to do. Hopefully, Ty will make a comeback and will somehow patch things up with Andrew. Regardless of the fight tonight, Ty Barnett still has a chance to do big things right in Washington DC.

  3. Ty had all the cards stacked against him in this fight and he went out on his sword. Even in a loss, he represented himself and Washington DC with dignity. I hope he bounces back from this.

  4. He fought scared after the 1st round he should have kept circling shooting the double jab,and straight right hand. When he did it in the third it worked. The saying goes "If it ain't broke don't fix it. " Still I wish Ty all the best I don't care who is in your corner if you don't listen it don't work.

  5. I really hope that TY took that 10K and bet on himself on the over/under because I bet it and it paid pretty well. The over/under was to go over 7 1/2 rounds at +160. If he did bet his 10K that he had on video he would have won 16K plus his 10K for the original bet.

Either way, he fought a helluva fight and should be proud of himself.

  7. The trainer is not what makes the team. Its the chemistry between the fighter and the trainer and if it aint there...it aint there. Sorry to break it to ya, but Andrew aint all that

  8. that was not 10,000, that was a stack of ones with two 20,s on the outside. that wasn't even his money, thay was TW's money and he had to give it back right after the video was made. Andrew would have never allowed TY to act so stupid. Andrew would have def had TY in better shape and more ready for this fight. I seen the video he made and it was redickyoulose. Ty will bounce back now, he is still just 22 and 3 ko losses does not mean its over. TY has 301 in his blood and he will be back. Maryland born, and he never calls it quits. he's a soldier and he went out on his shield. 301 go hard!

  15. The reality is that Ty has been doing this for a long time and I think is time for a real career with benefits and a retirement plan. Ty you have been a good fighter and you have given DC and boxing all you have in the ring. We are all proud of you and wish the best for you. I really don't want to see you punch drunk, nor broke without nothing to show after a career that should have given you more. Therefore, while still in good shape to start a new career. Please, don't be like some of our DC fighters who don't know when to quite. I wish you well and God bless you!

  17. Does anybody know what the contracted weight was for this fight? And id anybody else notice how Jay Nady seemed quite biased against Ty? When Ty complained of getting hit behind the head, Nady said don't turn your head. When Ty pushed Gesta's head down Nady said, hey don't push his head down as opposed to telling Gesta don't put your head down. One of those counts were hella fast and that final shot was clearly after the bell...

  18. Ty got just what he deserved. He got broke down. Thinking he was king of the ring and got schooled.
