Peterson-Khan II Officially Cancelled!

The following is a press release from Golden Boy Promotions:

A failed pre-fight drug test administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA), coupled with the Nevada State Athletic Commission's (NSAC) legal inability to hold a formal hearing on the matter of licensing Lamont Peterson for his Saturday, May 19 rematch against Amir Khan until Tuesday, May 15, has forced the cancellation of the event.

  1. Feel bad for Amir Khan and the fans. A lot of people booked their flights and hotels. Terrible!

  2. I feel bad for fans on both sides. But for Khan to come out and not be diplomatic "This is Lamont Peterson's fault" is truly classless on his part.

Yes Peterson made a mistake, but Khan's handling of this, combined with how he handled the loss originally has shown him to be very classless.

  3. Way to go Peterson! DC fans were standing up for you, had your back while the whole boxing world was talking trash about your win, and here the whole time you were nothin but a FRAUD!!! CHEATER!!! ON STEROIDS!!!
Return the belts AND the Key to the City of DC!!!

  4. Be diplomatic??? What are you talking about Gary. He's supposed to be diplomatic when he just found out that his loss was to a guy who was on steroids?

    Wow! your amazing man

  5. If you actually READ the letter, you will see that the doctor said that the testosterone pellets were not used to enhance performance. THE DOCTOR SAID THAT!!

If anything, Peterson made a mistake, one that was guided by medical personnel!

  6. why don't we have a no holds barred boxing match between the two cheaters, Peterson and Antonio Margarito. Let em wrap their hands in whatever they want, inject themselves with whatever performance enhancing drugs they want, and just letem' go at it!!!

    We'll call it "Marga-cheato vs Pe-testosterone"

And it could be held in DC where, obviously, anything goes because no rules are enforced!

  7. How about a PUBLIC APOLOGY Lamont? Dont you think you at least owe your supporters in the DC area that much? You were given the key to the city by a win that came under false pretenses. Dont you think you should at least apologize and give the key back while your at it?

  8. That Doctor is a Fraud just like Peterson and his handlers. Who goes to Las Vegas, to a hole in the wall clinic to get treated??? Our area has some of the best Doctors and Hospitals in the United States. Its crazy for them to try to make excuses. They cheated PERIOD! Give those belts back to Khan.

  9. Khan could have been seriously hurt and you call him classless? He's most likely very emotional right now just finding out that his opponent cheated to gain a victory against him, and in the process took his belts that he worked very hard to get. Lamont Peterson and his Team are the only classless ones in this case.

  10. What happen to a second opinion?? Who trustes a no name doctor with their career??? Don't believe the doctor treated Peterson. They just got caught cheating and paid a doctor to write that bullshit letter. Letter made things worst.

  11. He punched hard with those Roids up in him.. Thats how he stopped the guy before Khan in the 12th round. Those damn seriods. Give the belts back Lamont before they strip you anyway.

  12. No excuse for this! Every professional athlete knows you do not inject yourself with anything that has an effect on your testerone. The decision to do so was selfish and the motive clear. They are alleging his testerone levels were low, and if they were so what! Thats not hindering his ability to fight or live.

Lamont owes every fan of boxing an apology this is what is wrong weith the sport to many damn sanctioning bodies and too many hands in the cookie jar.

As far as Gary and his description of Khan I will say this, Khan's actions adter the first fight were more than classless, but he is justified in responding as he did to the new information. I will give Gary this though he is a "hometwon boy" and we need to have his back through this, because just like Mosely and MArgarito there will be a chance for redemption.

  13. Does Peterson need to give a public apology? No question about it. Especially to the fans on both sides who paid money and rearranged their schedules to attend the bout.

I stand by my assessment of Khan being classless in this situation. I understand he may be emotional, however there are better ways to explain your point of view. To me it sounded like he was saying "don't blame me, blame him."

No one is passing blame on Amir Khan. We know the blame rests solely on Peterson and his camp.

This "I told you so attitude" that Khan and yes, some of his fans, have is ridiculous.

On a side note (and I may talk about this after Saturday's card), where were all you anonymous people when we were celebrating DeMarcus Corley's victory or the THREE NATIONAL GOLDEN GLOVES CHAMPIONS we had this past weekend. Didn't hear from you gutless wonders, did we?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Wow!! Three National Golden Gloves Champions. Outstanding! Congrats to all.

  15. `I am disappointed that the fight has been cacelled, but I'm saddened by all the negative comments i'm reading. Lamont has been nothing but classy and professional his entire career. I dont think there was any cheating going on. Lamont is our Champion he is home grown. This is how we support our own!!!! Wake up! Lamont threw a wrench in the plans of Khan and Golden Boy when he whipped his butt the first time. So, this is a attempt to discredit him & have the titles taken because he can't beat Lamont!!!!!!!! All those that know the game understand where im coming from. Everyone has their own opinion. I think we should hear everything before passing judgement. "Everything thats popular ain't right, and everything right ain't popular. In the words of Public Enemy " Don't beleive the hype".

  16. in all of this, I haven't heard Lamont make a statement at all. I don't think it was intentional on Lamont's part, he was just doing what his doctor told him to do. He's not a cheater, he's still the best fighter in the DC area!

  17. Peterson having title in this town makes Garys blog busy.
Lamont not having title makes garys blog not busy.Lamont having title in this town gets gary at ringside for big fights.
Lamont not having title in this town has gary sitting home watching fight from flat screen
    like everybody else.
Does this give anybody a diffrent perspective on how gary arrives at his opinions?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes, Gary loves boxing and is proud of every single professional and amateur boxer the DMV has to offer. If it was not for Gary and his blog, none of us would be able to voice or opinions.

    ReplyDelete
  19. If his excuse is legitimate, and that is open for debate because it is fishy he used a Vegas doctor for TRT (you can get a doctor to prescribe anything), he was still negligent in failing to get an exemption. Taking the treatment without the exemption is a rules violation - if this was track and field, he'd be banned for two years!!!

So Lamont screwed up, and Khan and GBP have every right to be pissed. I would expect the DC commission to overturn the results of the first fight given the admission. If not, the DC commission will run the risk of developing a "soft on drugs" label.

While there is the urge to support the hometown boy, people have to realize this is really bad for the sport.

  20. And if Peterson were to fight on May 19, I would have been in front of my flatscreen like everyone else!

    ReplyDelete
  21. You'll always be the DMV's # 1 fan Gary!

    ReplyDelete
  22. And I probably see more live boxing in one year than you do in five years. Because unlike you, I'm not around boxing just for the big fights. I'll be shocked if you will be at Saturday's show for example. If you are, come say hi to me at ringside!

    ReplyDelete
  23. You really are sensitive Mr Williams.
Must have hit a live nerve

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yeah but if the fight were here you would be at your free seat right at the ring.
Do I make myself clear big boy.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Just like I am for every bout, regardless of importance. Unlike yourself!

    ReplyDelete
  26. You said my perspective changes because of the importance of the bout and nothing could be further from the truth. I've supported and covered boxing in this area for almost 30 years.

This blog has been around for six years and there hasn't been a time when I wasn't busy. You're probably new to this, so I just thought I'd give you a clarification from someone who has been true to this!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Gary do you purchase your tickets or are they provided? If I was provided a ringside seat or any seat for that matter I would be able to attend as many fights as you do. So don't make it sound like your the great boxing guru! You supply a network for people to express their opinions, just because they don't agree with your stance on a particular subject you shouldn't act out like your being attacked, it's their opinion, just saying.

    ReplyDelete
  28. You can disagree with anything I say, but don't attack me with statements that are incorrect.

If you disagree with my statement about Khan, that's fine. But what that statement about my perspective did was attack my credibility, and that's what my response was about.

To answer your question, I do not pay for cards where I am a working reporter, which is about 95 percent of the time. Whether I am working for my own blog, Fightnews.com or the Washington Informer (sometimes all at the same time) I am working.

  29. I wasn't the one attacking I was the one asking the question.

  32. Thanks a lot for your comments and support. I've been wanting to do a "where are they now" feature on this blog for some time.

That is closer to happening than ever before with some of the working partnerships that I have entered into recently. Hopefully we will get that done.

Listen out for our post-fight tonight, I may talk about that.
