Brandywine, MD heavyweight Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell experienced true adversity for the first time since he lost his last amateur contest. Paulsboro, NJ's Chazz "The Gentleman" Witherspoon took the fight to Mitchell in the first round.
However, Mitchell came back very strong in the second round before dropping Witherspoon in the third and going on to remain undefeated as referee Randy Neumann stopped the contest at 2:31 of the third at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ.
With the win, Mitchell wins his first regional title -- the NABO Heavyweight championship. Mitchell is already ranked in the top 10 by the NABO's parent company, the WBO. Mitchell is now 25-0-1, 19 KO's. Witherspoon falls to 30-3, 22 KO's.
Here is an on-site analysis by Michael Amakor of FightKings.com and John McMullen of The Sports Network.
Granted Mitchell probably couldn't handle a Klitchko, but he may offer up a better fight than anyone lately, but what he and Witherspoon created was a heavyweight barn burner the likes of wich hasn't been seen in quite some time. Great respect to both men. One point to be made and Mitchell is a great example of is.....Where has the American heavyweight gone? To American football is where...At 25 this guy Mitchell came over....what happens if he wasn't attracted to the glitter of the dream that is the NFL. What if Mitchell practiced boxing from 5 years old foward? He would certainly be better than he is now. Still, now he is a top ten heavyweight. I beg for Arreola-Mitchell HBO. The winner of that earns a Klitchko try.
ReplyDeleteSeth looked like he was going to lose the fight in the first round. He showed he has a huge heart. His comeback in the second round was awesome. His body work was great. Way to go Seth. That was the best fight of the night.
ReplyDeleteHeart of a Lion! Great "Gut Check". Great Victory!
ReplyDeleteFight Doctor (J. Spears)
good win seth your the man God Bless u and the team.
ReplyDeleteSeth don't have a chin bye bye
ReplyDeletewhat if? would've, should've, could've??? Can't live in the past my friend, the point is, is that he is here now and making up for lost time and doing a damn good job at it. Who cares what could've been. He's on his way
ReplyDeleteNot only is he on his way, he is following the timetable to a T. Since day one, the Mitchell camp has talked about battling one of the Klitschkos in 2013, not 2012. Everything is going according to their plan.
ReplyDeleteGary I hope they work on his defense. If either Klitschko hit him like that he would have went down for the count.Seth made a great comeback but he isn't ready for either Klitschko.
ReplyDeleteAnd Mitchell would be the first to tell you so. And, guess what, there is no rush to a Klitschko at this time.
ReplyDeleteThe schedule is on time. Golden Boy seems to be looking towards Michael Grant. Mitchell told HBO that they are working on something in September, however Golden Boy had a tentative date for June 30 here in DC.
That is seeming less and less likely because Gary Russell, Jr., who was supposed to co-headline the card, didn't fight in April and is slated to fight sometime in May and the damage Mitchell took in this bout.
Thanks Gary thats good to know. I think in due time Seth will be ready to fight either one of the Klitschko's, but not now they have to fix a few things on his defense. He showed everyone that his heart is huge. I think the Grant fight is a good move.
ReplyDeleteDoes Seth spar with Tony Thompson??
ReplyDeleteThey have sparred in the past, but I'm not sure whether they spar together at this stage.
ReplyDeleteI love Seth Mitchell! I love the heart, the style, and the skill. Plus, he's all class and a gentleman to boot!
ReplyDeleteSeth is on HBO. The Klitschkos are NOT! Seth doesn't need them. Plus, I think at this point in his career, Seth is not ready for them. Don't rush it, please don't rush it.
Tony Thompson is going to take care of Wladimir this time. Tony realizes that this is his last shot and Tony knows what he has to do to take care of himself and his family for life and that's to whip Wladimir.
Tony is fighting the right one because even though he is a more classical fighter to watch than Vitali, Wladimir doesn't have it where it counts and that's the heart department. Tony is going to knock that bum out!
Now back to Seth. Go ahead and take on Arreola. Then go for a Derek Chisora, Michael Grant, Bermane Stiverne, and Kevin Johnson if HBO approves them all.
Get past all of those guys, keep training hard, keep working hard, keep improving and if Vitali is still available, then you fight him. But only if you can't get a fight with Alexander Povetkin if he's still got a strap. Try to fight Povetkin first for a title.
Wladimir will be retired after Tony the Tiger gets rid of him, you'll see. Tony is going to bring that DC GO GO ass whipping to him!
Remember Seth, YOU are already on HBO. Vitali and Wladimir, who really cares?
