WBA May Order Immediate Peterson-Khan Rematch Because Of 'Mystery Man!'

The new year has started off with one of the most bizarre stories seen in a long time. Apparently, Golden Boy Promotions and former world champion Amir Khan have found a new way to protest their loss to Lamont Peterson.

The protest concerns the man shown in Mike Greenhill's photo that is standing to the left with the hat on. This man was shown (and it is documented with video. The question was why anyone would be showing video of this guy in the first place?) conversing with the WBA supervisor throughout the contest. His name, reportedly, is Mustafa Aleem who is an IBF member but was NOT assigned to the bout. The IBF supervisor for this contest was Paul Artisst, who is a local person, former head of the DC Boxing and Wrestling Commission and is VERY well respected throughout the sport.

The Khan camp is saying that this is enough for Khan to get an immediate rematch with Peterson. According to Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, the WBA has verbally agreed and will officially announce this early next week.

A spokesperson for the Peterson camp says that Aleem is not affiliated in any way with the Petersons.

  1. I'm confused. So what if the two officials were conversing? It was Joe Cooper's decisions that swayed the fight, not these two officials. Is the implication that one of these two got to Cooper?

I understand that one of the officials was not assigned to this fight, but how would he have swayed the outcome away from Khan?

  2. Honestly, I don't understand it either. Again, why was there a camera following this guy throughout the fight? The conversation being shown didn't look good.

I don't think that any of these guys got to Cooper. Again, Cooper refereed the bout the same way he refs all of his fight.

  6. The city should riot, turn over cars, burn buildings and throw stones at the police if the WBA is allowed to do this.I can see it now,Store windows being smashed, people running through Georgetown with Televisions on their shoulders and an occasional women getting raped or a man if it's in Dupont circle.

No really, Lamont and Joe won this thing fair and square and nobody has the rite to take it from them.

  7. I think a score card was changed and that was part of the contraversy

  8. The man in the picture is clearly Jack Fulton, International Championship Boxing's Promoter Extraordinaire! He is the man that moves boxing! If it weren't for Jack we'd all be fading to black!

  10. Sad day when the biggest win of your career is tainted by someone else's actions. Lets all face it, yes Lamont fought a helluva fight, did everything right, but from the get go this win has been controversial starting with Joe Cooper and now this "mystery man." Either way, its gonna put more money in his pocket so thats good.

  11. This is a non-story. Let me break it down for you as to exactly what happened. What you have in Ameen is a typical bullshit brother (his real name is probably Leon Washington or something) who didn't want to pay his way in to the fight and then wanted to act big time because he has an affiliation with the IBF and sit right by the ring. He wanted to act like a big player. He was probably sitting right by a judge and saw the scorecards and then went to the Peterson corner and told them they won the fight before the actual scorecards were read. There are hundreds of guys like this in boxing.

  12. Yeah, I'm curious about Mustafa's real name, too. What was he doing in the ring after the fight? He looks like just another hanger-on trying to get into the picture.

  13. Where can I get a copy of the HBO documentary Boxing along the Beltway?

  14. Look at the video! What in the @#$ was he doing beside the ring judge and then in the ring with Lamont at the end of the fight, happy. Bad for boxing and even bad for Lamont. He need to watch his camp.

  15. Stop the presses! I know the real story and it involves Henry "I Cry for a Living" Jones! Crybaby, INC.

Call me and I will tell you how his crying swayed the judges on one card for sure! I have the video tape and voice recording! I will only give it to BATB to show the world, CBJ AKA Cry Baby Jones was in on it!

  16. It wasn't Henry Jones. It was Joe Hensley...I mean Perry Ballard!

I am very upset by the reference to me In the immediately preceding comment. After embarrassing myself on this blog a year ago by feigning intentions to enter the ring myself, experiencing all of the big names in my stable jump ship (Cujo and War Time), and seeing my baby Major League Boxing go bankrupt, I have partially rehabilitated my character by establishing a new organization - Minor League Boxing. I demand more respect for all that I've gone through.

  18. When the decision is changed to a "No Contest" is the Mayor gonna make Lamont give the key back?

  20. MR Gary,

Did that kook get you the video and Audio of Henry Jones he claimed to have?

I have known Henry since I was a kid and I am 99.2% sure he is not involved!

  21. there is always some stupid shit going on with professional boxing in DC someone promotes a show there, why should it change now?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Folks, this has NOTHING to do with the DC commission. They did their job.

This has to do with the WBA and IBF as well as Golden Boy Promotions. THEY chose Joe Cooper to be the referee without researching the type of referee he was.

Mustafa Aleem has NO connection to the DC Commission. None of the three judges had any connection to the DC Commission. Paul Artisst, who once was the head of the DC Commission, was working in an IBF capacity, not a DC capacity.

Stop blaming the DC Commission. They are just not a part of this "controversy."

If Khan had taken his loss like a man (like he asked Zab Judah to do), there would be NO controversy!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Once again, the DC Commission ARE there to police the event, oversee and regulate EVERYTHING within the rules and regulation, to include behavior of Ringside officials, guests, visitors, etc. So...if the DC Commission sat there and watched this Aleem or whatever the hell his name is, butt in and have his nose where it shouldnt' have been, the the Commissioners WERE NOT doing their job! PERIOD! I'm sure they collected their paycheck for the even though, typical for DC. Officials not doing their job, yet still receiving a paycheck! The DC Boxing Commission NEEDS a makeover!
