Khan Appeals Verdict in Peterson Bout!

Former world champion Amir Khan is appealing the scoring in his split decision loss to Lamont Peterson last Saturday at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

International Boxing Federation president Daryl Peoples confirmed to The Associated Press that Khan's camp also has appealed against referee Joseph Cooper's decision to deduct points.

"We have just asked Golden Boy Promotions for a DVD of the tape so I can review it with the Championships chairman (Lindsey Tucker)," Peoples said.

Khan claimed the scorecards were changed before the results were read out by the ring announcer.

"I got told I won the fight by someone at Golden Boy Promotions who had seen the scorecards, and (ring announcer) Michael Buffer said the same thing to me, before they were taken off him and changed," Khan said. "It's never taken so long after a fight."

The 2004 Olympic silver medalist also said he only resorted to pushing Peterson because his opponent was constantly leading with his head.

"Every time he came in with his head, the best thing was for me to push him away," Khan said. "In the rule book, there's no warning for pushing -- especially points deducted -- and I got two points deducted.

"I was treated unfairly, and I'm sure we can get a rematch and we can have a neutral referee and neutral judges."

Just to set the record straight: None of the three judges were from the Beltway region (DC, Maryland or Virginia for those who don't know).

  2. If LP gets screwed, it is all Joe Pooper's fault. he sucks and will you call it what is MR GW? Bad refereeing.

Joe Cooper needs to be sent to Cooperstown and put in the Baseball Hall of Fame right after Sandy Kofacs throws a fast ball at his nut sac!

  3. If Amir Khan really thought he was the best, and wasn't acting like a little bitch, he would just get the rematch rolling asap! Lamont whooped up on him and he is bitter!

  4. I would be a little surprised if the verdict was overturned but stranger things have happened. I just don't see it happening because the blame would be on the IBF.

The DC Commission did not choose Joe Cooper as the referee. Cooper is an IBF official. None of the judges, as I said in the article, were local judges so they were not chosen by the local commission.

So if the IBF wants to do a huge Mea Culpa, then they can overturn the decision. Otherwise, it won't happen.

I can say about Cooper that the 12th round point deduction is tough to take because it did end up deciding the outcome. But Cooper is again a take-charge ref and the Khan folks should have been aware of that.

Anyone can find a small issue and pick at it, please. He's a crook. now this is a conflict of intrest. Ask him who he spars with ?

  8. They announced Joe Cooper as being a Ref. from Virginia, wrong he is 100% a D.C reff that night. They need to get there stuff right, must have known he was going to blow it and wanted to dump his crap somewhere else beside D.C.

  9. On a board where every fight team is criticized for the fights they make I am ashamed of the lack of credit directed to Barry Hunter. Everyone cried for Peterson to change trainers after suffering his loss and draw. But his team showed tremendous smarts by turning down the first Amir Khan bout and finding themselves with a bigger payday and hometown advantage. They are currently showing their wits by using a rematch with Bradley as leverage. I knew Peterson didn't deserve to be such a large underdog, but when I saw the look on his face during the ring entrance I regretted not betting on him, it was clear he was there to win. I'm tired of Khan's constant crying.

  10. Khan is the worst! I don't have a clue why people put him on a pedestal, and his attitude is unbearable the way he handled the loss was classless
