Dusty Harrison Signs With Golden Boy Promotions; Will Fight on December 10 Card in DC!

Apparently one of the bigger moments from today's Amir Khan-Lamont Peterson press conference was the announcement of the newest signee for Golden Boy Promotions -- the youngest pro fighter in America, DC's own Dusty Harrison.

GBP CEO Richard Schaefer announced that the 17-year-old welterweight will be participating on the Saturday, December 10 card, which will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Sources tell BATB that the DC Boxing and Wrestling Commission has waived the age limit and that will allow Harrison to fight on the card.

  4. Hope he continues to fight locally. Too many of our boxers choose to go else-where. Allow us to be your fans. Stay home and we will support each and everyone of you. We deserve it, we stuck with most of you thru the amateurs, and we will stick with you the pros. Good Luck and God Bless You all.

  5. Richard Schaefer from Golden Boy was also pleased to announce that tickets to Khan-Peterson "The Capital Showdown" will be priced starting at just $25. So they hope to attract a huge crowd to the convention center and then keep the ball rolling with more big showcase cards in the Washington D.C. area.

  6. Amir Khan is determined to make Barack Obama a ringside spectator for his upcoming fight against Lamont Peterson in Washington DC in December.

Khan announced he will defend his WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles against Peterson at the Convention Center in the city on December 10.

While the promoters at a press conference in London may have been keen to talk up the fight, Khan fans instead long to see their favourite fighter take on Floyd Mayweather in a blockbuster mega-fight

    ReplyDelete
  7. A Khan would include a hoped-for showdown with welterweight champ Floyd Mayweather. For now, Khan will focus on Peterson, who is 29-1-1 with 15 knockouts, his last fight being a 12th round knockout of Victor Cayo on July 29.

"It's a dream come true for me," said Peterson. "I dreamed about this day many, many times attending the big fights at the Verizon Center. I would go ... back to the gym and just wish that one day I would get my opportunity."

Peterson's brother, Anthony, will also get the chance to fight on the undercard along with Washington's Dusty Harrison and Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell, the Michigan State middle linebacker who turned top heavyweight contender. The 29-year-old native of nearby Brandywine, Md., whose opponent has yet to be determined, is 23-0-1 with 17 knockouts

  8. who cares about Dusty's release from Prize Fight, he's released and signed with Golden Boy.

Anyways, thats a personal business matter between them and Prize Fight. But to answer "how Dusty got his release from Prize Fight"??? Well he's only 17 years old...a person under 18 yrs old can't be held legally binded by a contract. Look up Contract Law.

Thanks to DC Commission who approved the waiver too, that is HUGE!!!!

  10. The promoters of the Khan-Peterson fight card are aiming high for this event, in which ticket prices are being kept affordable to attract as many spectators as possible. Tickets start at $25, and although the convention center is being set up for approximately 12,000, there is room enough to expand to 30,000 if interest is there, according to Scottie Irving, president of the D.C. Boxing and Wrestling Commission.

  11. I think it's interesting to read about fighter's contracts with promoters and if they switch the details behind that. Look at Timothy Bradley going to Top Rank and the story behind that. With Dusty I'm pretty sure the one poster is right, because of his age a contract wouldn't have been valid, and they probably never had one. Unless a parent or guardian signed for him. Not sure how that works, but that's why it's interesting to me. And if details come out about that I would like to read them. That's not being nosey or stirring up trouble. Like with Fernando, I read those documents and his lawsuit against PrizeFight. On one side you have PrizeFight that put Fernando on TV from very early in his career. On the other side you have Fernando claiming they violated Federal Law by not disclosing how much money they made from the networks to put him on TV. Fernando is pursuing this angle in an effort to get his release from PrizeFight. PrizeFight wants to keep Fernando. There's a story there and if anymore details come out about it I would be interested in that.

Right after 17-year old Dusty Harrison improved to 2-0 last Saturday, the decision was made for he and his promoter Prize Fight Promotions to go their separate ways. While the details are not clear, the main factor was the fact that a 17-year old cannot legally enter into a contract, and Prize Fight opted to not invest any more in his development, without a long-term agreement. Trainer/Father Buddy Harrison tells Maxboxing that Dusty should soon be back in the ring nonetheless.

  17. - Fernando Guerrero, the world's 11th-ranked middleweight boxer, claims his promoter Prize Fight Promotions violated the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act by not telling him how much it makes from his fights.
Guerrero is 21-1 with 16 knockouts. The North American Boxing Federation named him Fighter of the Year this year.
Guerrero says in his federal complaint that the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act was "enacted for the express purpose of protecting professional boxers like Fernando Guerrero from the exploitive practices of boxing promoters."
The Act requires that before promoters such as Prize Fight get paid, they must tell the boxer how much it will be paid for the fight.
"In the absence of providing required financial disclosures to Fernando Guerrero, Prize Fight is prohibited by the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act from receiving consideration for a Fernando Guerrero bout," the complaint states.
Guerrero claims Prize Fight did not tell him how much money it was making off him on multiple occasions, including two fights that were broadcast on ESPN 2: one against Grady Brewer and the other against Derrick Findley.
"Although not required by law, Mr. Guerrero's representatives requested disclosures of the information required under the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act, but Prize Fight has refused to provide the information," the complaint states.
Guerrero Prize Fight's hardheadedness made him decide to terminate his agreement with it. But he says it will not let him go and insists it has the exclusive right to schedule and promote his boxing matches.
Guerrero disagrees: "Prize Fight is seeking to preclude Mr. Guerrero from accepting any offers to participate in a professional boxing match - his primary source of income - unless Prize Fight can arrange or otherwise profit from Mr. Guerrero's boxing," the complaint states.
Guerrero seeks declaratory relief, freeing him from his agreement with Prize Fight, and statutory penalties.
He accuses Prize Fight of violating the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act, breach of contract and breach of good faith.
He is represented by Adam Baldridge with Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz.

DMV sources are saying that talks are going on for Dusty Harrison (DC) to fight Todd Wilson (VA) on December 10th. HBO undercard swing bout. Harrison and Wilson are both undefeated. However, Harrison 2-0 and Wilson is 11-0. Harrison has a lengthy amateur career. Cannot confirm Wilson's amateur background as of right now.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I hope they are paying Wilson good money, because there goes that 11-0
The only way Todd Wilson should take this fight is if the money is huge. They have taken there time with this boxer and built him correctly. Why fight Dusty Harrison for chump change. Does sound interesting though. DC vs VA
Boxing ain't dead by far! Screw MMA!

  23. White Lighting Wilson will not fight Dusty Harrison-forget about it!!!

  24. Leo will try to negotiate some crazy deal and keep his guy from fighting.

  25. Who cares about Todd wilson ,this
is Dustys moment so quit trying to promote Wilson on Dusty's dime.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Let the young man have his time without trashing it up with leo and todd "I got man boobs" wilson! He is a joke. Harrison doesn't need wilson....wilson needs harrison, and a new trainer!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wilson is being offered $12,000 to fight Harrison in a 6 rounder on an HBO card being held in Washington DC. I assume that Wilson has yet to be paid anywhere that much since turning professional.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wilson could beat Dusty, for sure. Bad fight for Dusty.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ive no idea who shall win, but I personally do not see Wilson accepting fight. Now if they add 3 more grand to that 12 grand, the fight will be on. $15,000 to be a swing bout on HBO isn't such a bad pay day.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Take the money now before someone else does.

    ReplyDelete
  31. This fight ain't happening this is just somebody trying to promote Wilson.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wilson will fight anyone. He just beat Mighty Mouse last month. He is fast, south paw, and in great shape. A true Warrior! He is ready for the big stage and will handle the 17 year old just fine. He will be in the best shape of his life.

    ReplyDelete
  33. u got jokes. the 17 yr old has damn near 300 amature fights. get real.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Whatever! he's kid. Wilson is a man!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wilson is a chump! first people try to stir up a fight between farmer and wilson, now harrison and wilson. Wilson can't come close to beating any one of them! Believe that!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I believe Hensley is correct.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wilson has the most trumped up record ever. No way he beats Dusty. I can't remember who he fought ( might have been a kid from Salisbury, King I think) but he got knocked down like three times in the fight but got the decision. Dusty punches better, is quicker, and has better feet than any other person Todd has stepped in the ring with. He is tall, rangy, smart, and active. If I am Wilson I take the fight, because of the money, exposure, and opportunity. No way he beats Dusty though, he just doesn't have the power to get him out of there.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wilson has yet to accept the offer of twelve thousand. I think he should jump at it. He has more than two months to train for it and I do not see him getting another offer like this for quite sometime if ever. I watched his last fight at the patriot center and do see that he needs work, but Dusty has been known to take people lightly, so I think Wilson should sign on the dotted line the first chance he gets. Dusty only has 2 professional fights compared to Wilson's 11.

    ReplyDelete
  39. doesn't mtter, Dust might only have 2 pro fights, but 300 amateur bouts. good money for Wilson, but it comes with his first lost. weigh the options.

Anthony Peterson Returns; Dusty Harrison Makes Golden Boy Debut

Anthony Peterson returns on the undercard of his brother’s show after a year-plus layoff. It was last September when he suffered the first loss of his career in a disqualification against Brandon Rios. Trainer Barry Hunter said only that Anthony had some “things he had to deal with” as the reason for his inactivity.

17-year-old Dusty Harrison, also from the DC area, will make his Golden Boy Promotions debut after receiving word Thursday just before the press conference that he had been granted a waiver to fight in the District at age 17. It will be his third professional fight and his first since severing ties with Prize Fight Promotions.

  44. That report was copied from Alec on Max Boxing.com Great pictures too.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I do know for a fact that they are still searching for a six rounder for Harrison. It does make cents to have a local. Wilson fits in perfect. He's 11-0, from VA., and always makes weight. Good money in it for Wilson's camp. JD Brown can make it happen. He knows both teams. (almost sure he does) How many chances does a fighter get to be on HBO? Wake up people!

    ReplyDelete
  46. There aren't too many promoters with fat pockets in boxing 'round these parts unless they make money in some other profession like I do. You know how to make a million dollars in boxing? Start with two million dollars that's how! Look, nobody wants to see anybody get seriously hurt (at least I don't) but nobody is making a fighter step between those ropes and fight. Boxing is capitalism in an almost pure sense. If the only fight you can get pays $500 and you want to fight, then that may be your only opportunity to fight. Promoters are so heavily regulated and hit with fees, taxes, licensing, etc. that unless you're drawing at least 1,500 in a reasonably priced venue then you're not making any real money. And if you're not making any money does it make sense as a businessman to continue? No! Most fighters that I have dealt with aren't greedy, they want to fight and they want to get paid a fair amount. I don't look at the Promoter/Fighter relationship as adversarial, I look at it as a partnership. It's a tough game no doubt. Second place is pretty good in most sports but you don't want to be second in a boxing match, that's for sure. Most promoters have respect for the sport of boxing and the boxers who compete. A promoter could pay more money if a boxing commission would be more reasonable on their fees. When you promote a show and about half of your total expenses on a show are related to commission expenses, then something is wrong. Talk about pockets getting fatter, it's not the promoters, it's not the boxers, but the commission ALWAYS makes money on a show. Look in our area of Virginia, Maryland, and DC and ask yourself who is a boxer that competes in the area that makes a full time living off of boxing? Maybe one, Jimmy Lange. How about a full time Manager? Any of those making a living off of being a Manager in the Beltway area? Nope. How about Promoting? Are there any beltway area promoters that make a full time living from being a boxing promoter? Again no. Now how about the position of boxing commissioner. The last I checked there were three full time boxing commissioners in DC, MD, and VA. Now who's making money off of boxing in this area? Boxers? No! Promoters! No! Boxing Commissioners? - Yes! What's wrong with this picture?

  50. Hey Brian, it's Reggie. Anyway, why are you so sure that fight will not happen? Leo is a smart man and Todd has been waiting to get on a big show. I hear there is talk of a catch-weight 145. I was thinking that if Golden Boy was behind the show at the Patriot Center, Todd would would fight Harrison without 2nd thought. Is it because Harrison is in his home-town? I know it cannot be about the money. I see that fight is 8 weeks away. I don't think either fighter has ever made too much money for a single fight. (not including signing bonus) I have been to several of Todd's fights and he seems to always have a decent crowd with him. I like the idea of them fighting eacthother, one from DC one from Va. Both very well known, neither have a lost, one south paw the other right handed. One seen as a good guy, the other bad. The news would eat it up. Re-match held at the Patriot Center 3 months later. Poppa Lange would love that! Check your messages.

And added that he will not fight someone like that for a few years. Went on about how Dusty is still a kid and does not concerned about how much money is involved. Actually said that Dusty may fight an 0-11 instead. Also, had nothing but good things to say concerning Prize Fight Promotions. Sounded as though he wishes things would have worked out. He did say problems occured because of his age. Seemed more concerned about the opening of new gym in Washington DC.

  79. We all know boxers usually end up fighting way past prime taking beatings while chasing glory or because of financial trouble.
Only rarely a fighter retires on time before it gets out of hand.
    e.g.
    Calzaghe
    Lennox Lewis
    Monzon
    Marciano
    ricardo lopez

Then you have also guys like riddick bowe, who retired on a winning streak but is critisized because of avoiding lennox because of it and eventually needed to come back for money, allthough he didnt end up losing.

An also a guy like Naseem Hamed, most people probably think he retired too soon since he was only 28 but I think he retired at the right time, the barrera loss took his confidence and the fire was gone, it would all have been down hill from there on I think.

  82. Newly-crowned WBC welterweight titleholder Floyd Mayweather Jr. insisted that he would enjoy some time off following last month's fourth-round knockout victory that dethroned Victor Ortiz and earned him his seventh belt over five different weight divisions.

Over the weekend, the 34-year-old Mayweather (42-0, 26 KOs) apparently did just that.

Mayweather was spotted in Miami at Saturday night's South Florida Basketball Classic that featured LeBron James and Dwyane Wayde of the Miami Heat, and Carmelo Anthony of the New York Nicks.

By Sunday evening, Mayweather was at The Park at Fourteenth of Northwest in Washington, D.C., his presence there being confirmed by a source close to the fighter.

The Park is described on its website as "a swanky four-level nightclub that offers dancing, live hip-hop and soul music and cocktails in an upscale, dress-to-impress setting."
