Tori Nelson Battles For Vacant WBC Female Title July 29 in Trinidad and Tobago!

Unlike the men's division of boxing, it doesn't always take a large number of bouts before women fight for pro world titles. This is why after only four pro bouts, undefeated Ashburn, VA middleweight Tori Nelson (in the top photo) will be challenging for the vacant WBC Female middleweight championship on Friday, July 29 at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

Nelson (3-0-1) will take on Lorissa "The Cheetah" Rivas of Las Vegas, NV (4-1, three KO's -- in the bottom photo) in this scheduled 10-round bout. Nelson is coming off a four-round unanimous decision win over Rachel Clark on June 25 in Virginia Beach, VA. Rivas makes her fourth straight trip to Trinidad and Tobago. Last time out, Rivas won the WBC Caribbean Light Heavyweight title by first-round knockout over Pauline London on March 19, despite giving up nine pounds in weight (164 to 173.) This will be the first time Rivas faces someone with a winning record and the first time either woman has gone 10 rounds.

  1. Well good luck to her, but yes of course she's getting a title shot, there's only 7 women in the WORLD at the weight class who have a winning record...out of the 14. Damn, trainers should be introducing more women to boxing.

  4. WTF, fighting for a world title when one boxer only has 4 fights and the other 5. That don't say much about womens pro boxing.

  5. Well I agree, but...its not her fault. The opportunity came her way, so of course she's gonna take it. Can't blame her for the situation in women's boxing. Good luck to her anyways.

  6. Womans boxing is still in its infancy as far as it being main stream pro sport, It will be in the olympics in 2012 and many of the best fights at local shows are surprisingly the womans bouts. Many promotors still turn their noses up at putting woman on the fight cards,So its still an uphill battle for woman like nelson, Good luck to her, She is a class act,

  7. Did some research on nelson, Three time DC golden gloves champion 2007-2009, All of her opponents had more experience abd winning records that she beat as a pro. I guess if they could have found her some tomato cans to get her 15 to 20 wins like the men do before really being tested that would be ideal, But at 34 years old and few oppty. to fight, time is of the essence, Good luck tori.
