Barnett Weighs 135 Pounds for Carson Combat; Rivera Off Card!

Ty Barnett weighed in at 135 pounds for his bout against Andrey Klimov tonight at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. Klimov tipped the scales at 137 1/2 pounds.

George Rivera was scheduled to be on this card but according to sources was taken off the show without the knowledge of the Rivera camp, who went to the airport and found their tickets had been cancelled.

  2. What happened in Ty's fight? That's bullshit if they did George like that... Goossen Tutor has a pretty clean rep. That doesn't add up.

  3. It wasn't Goossen Tutor who did that. It was someone else.

  4. Andrey Klimov overpowered Ty Barnett in a junior welterweight scrap that saw Klimov stop Barnett in round 3 at 1:12.

  5. of course it was Goosen Tudor that did that. They were the promoter of the event. They have no reason to protect Ty. So what do they care if he gets beat. They do not care. And why should they?

  9. I was talking about the Rivera situation. A person named Pat Nelson was involved and he is not well liked in the boxing business.

  13. FYI: Johnson won his first world title on a pay-per-view from California. He knocked out Francisco Tejedor in the first round.

  17. Gary and Brian - you guys are right and I'd log in under my name, can't find my info but I assure you this is me. Pat Nelson was the matchmaker for this bout with the German fighter and he seems to have an in with the German promoters. He pulled this fight from us 3 weeks ago after we verbally agreed and then never received a contract. Then he proposed the bout to us once again a few days before the fight and we accepted once again. This time we received a contract but the fight was yanked from us yet again and we found out when George went to the airport to get on the plane and the tickets were voided. I called Nelson and he blamed everybody he could think of from Goosen Tutor to Tom Brown (Goosen's matchmaker). Nelson is neck and neck with Don Elbaum as the biggest liar that I have dealt with thus far in boxing. If he stuck out his tongue it's probably forked like a snake. Pitiful, pitiful human being.

  19. No, but Johnson was a co-feature and considering he was not in a marquee division (Flyweight) at the time, that is pretty good.

Look, no one is disputing how great Leonard was, but give some credit to the boxers that came after them. Many have made their marks.

Ring Magazine called Johnson the best flyweight of the 90's -- a decade that included Michael Carbajal, Johnny Tapia, Danny Romero, Yuri Arbachkov, Alberto Jimenez and Arthur Johnson -- the last two on that list, Johnson beat.

  20. A Gary the guy is just talking, first he said D.C. boxer's don't do anything when they get on the big stage, he was referring to Barnett's fight. Ty wasn't even on the big stage he is still trying to build his career. When I said Mark, he want's to compare him to Ray. Mark was on the big stage many of times and performed GREAT, so has Sharmba, chop chop and many other's. D.C. boxer's have been doing great. We will have many more champion's

  21. a reliable source told me that Ty stated that it was like dejavu from his first loss after being off for 10 months and jumping in the ring with a fighter whos been more active than him he said he shouldve took a lesser opponent but he let his pride and heart get in the way of his decision making his trainer and manager didnt really want the fight because ty hasnt fought in 10 months but Ty insisted on fighting the undefeated fighter, inactivity is what killed him not the opponent Ty was knocked down one time and took his 8 count and stood up at 8 but the ref for whatever reason waved the fight off Ty said he felt the weight difference and that the guy was heavier and he never really got to shake the ring rust but the guy couldnt match him skill for skill Ty said he just needs to stay active and fight more often he would love to come back to DC and fight as soon as possible
