Peterson-Cayo Off; Coleman Offered Bout With Peterson!

Fightnews.com is reporting that Victor Cayo has pulled out of his April 29 IBF Junior Welterweight title eliminator bout against DC's Lamont Peterson. No reason was given on the Cayo pullout. The rest of this story gets very interesting.

Baltimore's Tim "Pit Bull" Coleman, the USBA Junior Welterweight champion, has reportedly been offered the opportunity to fight Peterson on the 29th. Coleman, who is ranked fifth by the IBF was originally given the opportunity to take on the third-ranked Cayo. However, Peterson, who is rated fourth by the IBF, decided to take the shot.

Coleman, who is training with Lee Beard in England, is slated to make his decision sometime today.

  3. This just shows how broken the boxing biz is when a DC fighter and a Baltimore fighter have to go to Vegas to fight each other for a modest purse.

They seriously can't host this fight somewhere in Maryland/DC where these guys have some kind of following? There's plenty of local venues that could have packed in a few thousand people, but instead it's gonna be in some empty casino ballroom in Vegas, where nobody has heard of either guy.

  4. So instead of these boxers going to the Mecca of boxing, every boxer's dream, they should stay home so you can see. How about opening up their fan base.
