There's a whole lot of amateur boxing going on this weekend featuring boxers from the Beltway region. While the Washington Golden Gloves continue tomorrow night at Sugar Ray Leonard Boxing Center, There is a contingent of locals at the National Silver Gloves in Kansas City, MO. Here is a wrap of how locals did from the blog DC Amateur Boxing:
DC area boxers competed in the first day of the 2011 National Silver Gloves, with four boxers advancing to the semifinals on Friday. In the 10/11 year-old division, Danardo Johnson lost his 90lbs. bout to Andres Borrego of Region 8. Also Donavon Eason lost his 60lbs. bout to Sean Garcia of Region 8.
In the 12/13 year-old division, 2009 National Silver Gloves Champion Jordan White defeated Region 8's Most Outstanding Boxer award winner Evan Sanchez in an 80lbs. contest. 3-time defending National Silver Gloves Champion Zimmie Dickinson def. Carlos Mendoza of Region 7 by RSC in the 1st round of their 95lbs. bout. Keegan Grove lost a decision to James Denson of Region 2 in the 112lbs. division. Troy Isley won his 90lbs against Wylie Tibbets from Region 7.
Ronnell Jackson won his 14/15 year-old 106lbs. bout against Aarkeyse Higdon of Region 2. Finally in the 165lbs. division, Daquan Johnson lost to Chandy Pattiwila of Region 8 and Lamont Roach lost his 125lbs. contest to Martin Urias of Region 8.
