D'Mitrius Ballard of Temple Hills, MD has captured the 165-pound title at the National PAL Championships in San Antonio, TX.
In a strange quirk of this tournament, Ballard defeated Kenneth McNeil of Birmingham, AL earlier this morning (around midnight central time), 17-10 to capture the crown.
Also today, Antoine Douglas of Burke, VA lost a 9-3 decision to Errol Spence of DeSoto, TX in the 152 pound championship and Jerry Odom of Bowie, MD fell in the 178-pound title bout to Marcus Browne of Staten Island, NY by a 7-6 score.
Congrats to D'Mitrius Ballard for winning the TITLE at the Pal bouts on Oct. 9, 2010 represnting the DMV area! We are hearing so much aboout Jerry Odom but not enough about D'Mitirius. I seems only SOME boxers are singled out for their accomplishments and not others. I wonder why? excellent job D'Mitrius, hope to see a write up on you in then Post. You deserve it!!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree... big-ups to all of the Pal winners from this area! I think alot of the attention is political and who you know. Good job Ballard! Hope to hear more about you in then near future. 2012 is on the way!!!
ReplyDeleteThis has been a very impressive year for the 17 years old D'mitrius Ballard. Eariler this year he won the 165lb. open division Ringside World Championship and with this win he secured his slot in the 2012 Olympic Boxoff's!! Congrats D!!
ReplyDeleteThat's right! Keep up the good work Big "D"!!

ReplyDeleteBallard also won Under 19 Championship this year. This young boxer is the real deal.
ReplyDeleteKeep knocking em out D!!!
ReplyDeleteI really like this young man! I did not realize he already qualifed for the Olympic trials. Good job D'Mitrius!!
ReplyDeleteThis tournament was the qualifier for Olympic Trials, plus winners get $1000. Runner ups $500. So, it was the first qualifier. There are only 7 more chance to qualify. Very Big Deal!!!
ReplyDeleteGolden Gloves
US Championship (Top 2)
Eastern Trials
Wester Trials
Armed Forces (only for military)
Last Chance Tourny TBA
Of course after you make the Olympic Team you still have to qualify for the OLympics by placing top XX (I can't remember) in a World Olympic Qualifying tournament. . .
But D. Ballard has his slot and doesn't have to worry about that. He can just concentrate on training for the next year or so.
there is no western or eastern trials this year.
ReplyDeleteD Ballard has one The Silver Gloves, The Ringside, The JOs, the Under19, and now the PAL Olympic Qualifier!!! Not to mention the vicious Knock out of The Legend of Laurel, Thomas Williams!!! If you never heard of D, that's your ignorance to amateur boxing. And ignorance is NoExcuse!!'n
ReplyDeleteBig mistake to boost Ballard by making fun of Thomas williams. Now you too will fall. Some never learn!!! Damn shame because Ballard seems to be a fine young man. You even went as far as to critisize his own team-mate Odom.
ReplyDeleteI don't get the last comment. I didnt take it that anyone was criticizing Thomas Williams or Jerry Odom. I think the point is D'Mitiruis won the title belt in San Antonio! PERIOD! He's a hell of a good fighter. The local media has said alot about other fighters that have not even obtained what D'Mitrius has obtained. Yet we are not reading about that in the Washington Post. Give credit where credit is due!!! Sounds like you have a HATER D'Mitirius!! Dont sweat it....your light is starting to SHINE!!!!!
ReplyDeleteStay focused young Ballard! Your going to go a long way.
ReplyDeleteYes there will be trials east and west. That is what is being submitted to the USOC. That's coming straight from committee chair. Should hear back soon on it.
ReplyDeleteBallard has been in the press also. Check the article below on him last year. The kid has been working hard to get to this point and beyond. Keep up the good work D'mitrius. Jerry you will get there as well. Congrats!!

Man thats was a mean knockout by Ballard on Thomas Williams. I would like to see it on video. Does anyone have it?
ReplyDeleteI think that knockout is on youtube
ReplyDeleteHey fellows, this Coach Roach D'Mitrius & Jerry Trainer, I like to thank you for the encouraging "Words" for D'Mitrius & Jerry. These kids have been training real hard for the last several years. Thank God, that they brought into the program. They have set alot of small goals and truly understanding their "PURPOSE". Goals are like little races, 40 yard dash. Purpose, is like you are running a endless marathon, until you are call home. Let Peace & Love be the frame work of your "LIFE". You will not regret it.
