Beltway Boxers Busy in Late August!

As the summer draws to a close, Beltway Boxers have bouts coming up around the country and one very important bout in South America.

On Thursday, August 26, undefeated Capitol Heights, MD featherweight "Mr." Gary Russell, Jr. goes after his third straight win at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, CA when Russell (11-0, eight KO's) battles veteran Guadalupe DeLeon of Mission, TX (8-11, four KO's) in a scheduled six-round bout.

On that same night in Columbia, SC, Alexandria, VA middleweight Brandon Quarles will participate in a four-round bout at the Township Auditorium against an opponent TBA. Quarles is coming off a successful pro debut against Vincent Batteast by unanimous decision on July 10 at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.

Undefeated DC heavyweight Maurice "The Freight Train" Byarm (7-0, five KO's) heads to the Convention Center in Virginia Beach, VA on Saturday, August 28 for a scheduled four-round contest against Ramon "The Panther" Hayes of Athens, GA (15-30-1, 10 KO's).

And this all leads up to the matchup for the Interim WBA Junior Welterweight title as champion Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO's) is challenged by former WBO Junior Welterweight titleholder and DC's own DeMarcus "Chop Chop" Corley
(37-13-1, 22 KO's) on August 28 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

As I said, you are my favorite writer in this area, but Mister Gary, come on, Chop Chop gets a title shot after being destroyed by Freddie Hernandez and then stopping a journeyman at best in Fuller. Mister Gary, come on you have to grab them because you know were born with two and call this a JOKE! It has nothing to do Mister Gary with supporting fighters, Chop Chop is underserving and this blocks fighters out there that are.

Time to do it Mister Gary no matter how hard you got squeeze lefty and righty, it will hurt at first, but then, the pressure goes away Mister Gary.

  2. My friend I don't think you understand how this title thing works most of the time. You see deserving has nothing to do with getting a title shot.If they thought Chop was deserving of the shot because he has been beating some good people then he wouldn't be getting the shot because someone would be afraid he would beat their man.
This lesson was free but the next one will cost you.

    Signed
    your teacher

PS.I would like to see Chop rise to the occaision

  3. Gary needs to fight somebody that has won a fight latley.
His opponet has only won one of his last ten fights. We all know this kid can rumble but this is nothing but a smokescreen when you start talking about his record.

  4. All begining prospects are brought up the way they are bringing Lil G along. You don't throw a top prospect in with other up in coming prospects until they hit the 20 win mark

  6. Haven't forgotten. Wanted to get through August. We will talk about September in a few days because there are two pro cards in the area that month.

  7. I read yesterday that Gary Russell is off that card due to a hand injury. Is this true?

  9. Mister Gary "Nice Guy" Williams,

As I expected Mister Gary, you did not grab them and speak the honest truth choosing to pretend what was said was not the gospel. Well, to help you Mister Gary, I am going to buy a nutsac for Lefty and Righty were it will not have as much pressure when you grab those boys and say what this really is! Madness! Your the best writer in the DMV, but at some point, you have got to stand up and be proud to grab the sac and call this what it is!

  10. Yes Russell is off tomorrow's card. That is official.

As far as Corley's bout is concerned, it's a nice payday, it may probably be his last title shot. I think he knows he is fortunate to get the shot. Would YOU turn it down because YOU heard people decide you didn't deserve it? I don't think so.

I report the news. If I feel something is wrong, then I will speak out about. Getting a title shot (even one that may not be deserved) isn't always wrong.

They put on a great show we had 18 bout's, a couple of dedications to some deserving individual's. Hal has the best boxing gym i have ever seen, it is one beautiful gym. If u get a chance next time they have a show check it out, they have a lot of support out thier on the eastern shore

  12. What happened to Gary Russell Jr?

  13. The best facility does not always produce the best fighters but Hal has a pretty good start.

  14. Now, am I being soft? Even though he lost, Corley fought what Fightnews.com called his best fight in years. He was competitive.

That is why I don't put boxers down, ESPECIALLY when they are in title shots. I will call the times when I need to speak out on something, not anyone else, especially when they don't have the GUTS to sign their name. You don't like what I'm saying, make your own blog. I prefer to treat boxers with respect!
