We already know that Mark "TNT" Tucker will be on the Saturday, June 19 boxing card at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA. The card is a co-promotion between DiBella Entertainment and Goossen Tutor Promotions. This allows another Beltway Boxer to make an appearance on this card.
DC's Tony "The Tiger" Thompson, who is promoted by Goossen Tutor, will be on the undercard on June 19, facing Las Vegas resident Friday "The 13th" Ahunanya in a 10-round bout. Thompson (34-2, 22 KO's) has won three straight (all by TKO) since his championship loss to Wladimir Klitschko in July of 2008. Ahunanya (24-6-3, 13 KO's), a native of Nigeria, has won two of his last three, but lost a 12-round unanimous decision to David Tua on March 31 in Auckland, New Zealand.
Never understood why fighters couldn't beat Tony.
ReplyDeleteHere's why: Very good defensive fighter, awkward style, persistent jab, deceiving power, fights smart.
ReplyDeletenever judge a book by its cover. he looks soft, slow, weak, big ears, kind of goofy. but the guy can flat out fight. best american heavyweight hands down. put it to you like this, if adamek beats grant, he would be a FOOL to fight Thompson because Thompson will beat him. i still can't believe wladimir beat him. vitali maybe, because he's tougher, but wladimir? they said tony was hurt, and usually i don't believe that as an excuse, but in tony's case i believe it.
ReplyDeleteAdamek will DESTROY Thompson.... Period.... Have to remember that Adamek is still basically a Cruiserweight. Therefore, he can move around and use his speed..... Tony doesn't have that. No BS, I have not seem Tony throw a combination in the 4 fights I have seen him in.
ReplyDeleteTony Thompson is a very good boxer, he would be too strong for Adamek. Watch Tony work out and you will see he has very good hand speed and excellent power
ReplyDeleteTony would whip Adamek, and that's not a knock on Adamek, he is very good and I love watching him fight. Tony would beat him.
ReplyDeleteDid somebody say Tony has speed?? LMAO...... Thank you. Proves to me that you most likely haven't watched him fight. I will go out on a limb and say that Chris Arreola has more speed than he does...... Awkward style??... What's so awkward about it??.... The thing is, the Heavyweight division is to TRASH right now that he doesn't have any real comp. until he faces a Klitschko. It's not that he is this hard fighter to figure out. It's just that the fighters he has fought just aren't good enough to figure him out..
ReplyDeleteThat isn't a knock on Tony. That's a knock on the Heavyweight division. If we had even had more B grade talent in the Heavyweight division Tony would not beat recognized as he is. Point.... Blank.... PERIOD
Tony's fight against C. Witherspoon he clobbered him with several 3, 4, and 5 pieces before the fight was called off....12/5/2009......
ReplyDeleteTony is slow...and decieveing....but by the time you figure out his southpaw stance...and then he turns orthodox like he did on Witherspoon......it is too late!!!!
ReplyDeleteTony has never turned orthodox before...and now he switches back and forth successfully.......I wish more fighters would feel the way you do....about doubting his ability.......that way he could get more fights.....and if you know someone willing ...realistically,,,willing to fight him please let me know!!! So I can put you in contact with management...or let GARY know.....he has my information........Boxers Wife
ReplyDeleteThat's the truth. Nobody wants to fight the guy. Tony can fight and if you don't think he can fight, then you don't know what you're looking at when you watch boxing.
ReplyDeleteI guess the reason I don't see why people are supposedly "scared" of Tony is the fact that I am a southpaw myself and see things differently.
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't get fights because he is not really that exciting.
Bottom line: Very good defensive fighter, awkward style, persistent jab, deceiving power, fights smart.
ReplyDeleteHe's also not a guy you would look at and say, "wow, what an athlete! look at the physique on that guy!" I think that, along with the fact that he's relatively unknown and dangerous at the same time. He's a B side guy, a blue corner guy, but he can fight! He's not a guy that a lot of guys are going to make a lot of money with unless he's fighting Klitschko in Germanry for the title (which is exactly what happened). If he's not a mandatory, he won't get another title shot. However, he may get a shot at Adamek. I bet that fight happens. I hope for Tony it does and I hope for Adamek, it doesn't.
ReplyDeleteWell now he has a shoulder injury and will not be able to fight. All this talking back and forth about this average fighter (in my opinion) was wasted.
