Sport of Kings, King of Sports Have Intertwining Struggles at Rosecroft!

Blogger Jason Policastro has a really nice story about the struggles of two sports that were once on the top of the list in this country -- horse racing and boxing -- and how their difficulties intertwine at one location in the Beltway region -- Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD where there are still live harness races and where the Old School Boxing gym is now located and live pro and amateur boxing cards have been held with some success.

  1. Fantatic article. The audio with the pictures were great as well. I always wondered what happened to Jerry "Slice" Jones and had not seen him in over 15 years.. Thanks for posting stuff like this Gary....

  7. Makes you mad that people are struggling to make a difference in their communities while corrupt politicians/community leaders strive as they further separate us with every ghetto that is neglected and every suburban neighborhood that is put up.

Hope you guys are around longer than most are predicting. Perhaps, you will get help soon. Plenty of vacant buildings in Ft. Washington.

  10. Reminds me of a song about 10, 15 years ago:

"Money is everything, money is everything, money, money, money, money, money, money, money is everything!"

You've got to have that money to make anything work in this world whether it is boxing, eating, breathing, living.

    Money is paper happiness.

  11. If Rosecroft has no racing of the horses, why not turn place into a training facility for boxing, wrestling, football, basketball, baseball, etc.? The grounds are definately large enough to do such.
The kids in DC,PG needs a place like that. Who is the Md state Gov.? Wish you all the best of luck

  12. ^^^ True, that would be a great idea. Basically just turn it into a sports complex. could also have other events for teens going on throughout the week and weekend.
