BATB has learned that there are major changes in the leadership of the Potomac Valley Association of USA Boxing, the association that governs amateur boxing in Washington, DC as well as Prince George's and Montgomery Counties in Maryland.
At a meeting held last Saturday at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD, the association's president, Jerry Jerome, and his wife Cecelia who served as treasurer, were stripped of their positions by the voting members of the association. The voting was unanimous in both cases.
According to copies of the termination letters obtained by BATB, Mr. Jerome was cited for violating the voting process. According to the letters, non-voting members of PVA were allowed to vote on association business. Also, Mr. Jerome was removed from office for conduct unbecoming a member of the PVA's Board of Directors.
Mrs. Jerome was stripped of her duties for failure to issue financial reports, failure to file required USA Boxing reports as well as failure to process received registration forms.
In a letter sent to the PVA Board of Directors and dated April 28th, the membership spelled out their complaints including this one:
"The current configuration of the board of Potomac Valley Boxing Association is simply not working. It is extremely difficult to obtain information and sanctions to provide opportunities for our youth participants to compete. Budget information is not available or shared with the general membership."
No word yet on who will serve in the leadership capacity of Potomac Valley. BATB will continue to follow this story.
Now that's what I'm talking about! If it ain't working, get in there and shake things up. Move things around and if some heads roll, so be it! Gotta love this country! I wish the pro game could change like that and get rid of these wacky boxing commissions we have throughout the US! I'm not just talking MD, DC, VA and surrounding areas, I'm talking all of them! They all are horrible and should be abolished! Take a cue from the amateurs and shake things up!
ReplyDeleteMr. Tony Bell a current gym owner and coach is leading the polls.
ReplyDeleteHe is also a retired police officer who served us for 30 years.
I have known Mr. Bell for several years and I agree with you. (100%)
ReplyDeleteWe need someone like him to get things rolling again.
Juice Gatlin for president of the local boxing commissions.
ReplyDeleteBoth amateure and professional commissions.
Not too sure if you are kidding or not concerning Juice for Pres., but the truth of the matter is that he would be excellent for the job. He has been involved in boxing for many years. He was even on the team that trained Sugar Ray.
ReplyDeleteHe knows PVA very well and could actually do some good. Problem is, I do not think he would be considered if Tony Bell is running. From what I gather, everyone is in agreement with Mr. Bell taking over. God know the last 5 years has been a disaster.
Perhaps Juice could run for VP.
First of all: The Jerome's will file a greivience. this shit ain't over till the fat lady sings.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, people should watch what they say. A court order could be in the works. The Jerome's did just find considering all the bullshit local gyms have put them through.
Rick Bolding will be back! You can bet your house on it. I heard it from the horses mouth.
ReplyDeleteMr. Bell is not the answer. Good guy but doesn't know all the rules and regulations. Hasn't been around the boxing scene long enough.
ReplyDeletePut Mr. Hinton back in charge or somebody with that type of experience.
Hinton could not run a lemonade stand. Mr. Bell may not have been around a long time, but he is honest and everyone seems to want to work with him. He will have more than enough help. According to streat beat-he is the man-hands down>
ReplyDeleteHinton and Bell are in total charge right now until meeting on June 5th. next scheduled meeting.
ReplyDeleteAll PVA business must go through them.
It's my understanding that Dave Jordan the current vice president is in charge until a new president is elected. We have many compatent candidates for the job, Mr. Hinton (he know's all the rules and regulations, and has been involved with the PVA for many many year's) Juice Gatlin (Know's all the rules and regulations, and he is a excellent spokesman for the PVA, he could secure a lot of sponsorship's for the PVA which we surely need), also don't forget about Simon a excellent speaker and writer, who could accomplish a lot for the PVA's interest. That's Simon from Nomis boxing. I don't know much about Mr. Bell so I can't comment, but he seem's like a fine gentleman.
ReplyDeleteI would like someone of integrity to lead the assoc. not someone that has profited off the backs of young kids & their families for decades--- who traditionally don't have a lot of money to begin with OR someone that is known to cheat and get paid for cheating. It's true, you really need to learn the sport but all the rules are in the rule book. I think that it's also important to have boxers of your own so that you can understand where the membership and coaches are coming from. Being able to devote 100% of your time to boxing is also a plus. Not a necessity but when someone has a career, I don't expect someone to focus on boxing all the time. It would be nice though.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how only 10-15% of the membership can vote someone out either. Not sure how democratic that is or valid. They could have picked a better time too and not done this before the JOs and USA regionals. Say what you want, but I know who is paying for my hotel and boxers per diem. It's not any of the names you named.
I think that the grass is always greener on the other side but you can always learn and study the rules. The same can't be said for character and integrity. I think people should just be careful in what they ask for and understand that you can just jump from one unpopular situation into a worse one.
Ofcourse you know who is paying for your hotel and you know who is paying the boxers hotel and food fees. It's coming from PVA funds. That's where it is supposed to come from. As of right now, Mr. Bell along with Mr. Hinton has authorized such. From what I hear and read, the two gentlemen are working with eachother and everything is going smoothly. Nice move on your part though-trying to seperate them. Mr. Bell will be firm and he will be fair. PVA is making a comeback and awards are in the future. It's time for a change! Like Billy D Williams said in High Roller: (Oh Freakie! Don't cry now!) You had your chance...
ReplyDeleteThey were illegally impeached! You cannot impeach people with only 17 gyms in attendance. You need 3/4 of all gym owners and I am quite sure MD DC VA has well over 60 participating boxing gyms. (Look in boxing club directory) Im not saying that you do not need a new president, i am just saying it was not done right.
ReplyDeleteSTFU!
ReplyDeleteA copy of the approved budget has been ordered by USAB. The finance committee should have suggested this on its own.
ReplyDeleteSounds like someone is in Shit Creek with a hole in their canoe.
ReplyDeleteTo top that off, a flood watch has been issued. One paddle just broke in half and the other is causing painful splinters. Hinton on the banks above doing a rain-dance.
Buddy & Gary are shooting at occupants in canoe with their brand new Crossman-Daisy BB guns.
Mr. Bell is hollering: This is not my jurisdiction>I have no authorty over here in Shits Creek.
A small plane was just seen over head with banner saying "Vote Juice for President" Here comes US Coast Guard with Captain Alan Nader to the rescue.
OMG!!!!
ReplyDeleteThere is some funny jokers on here.
ReplyDeleteAlan Nader would be a good President for PVA and also USAB but he moved to southern MD and has a new gym but he's in the South Atlantic Assoc now.
ReplyDeleteWow! I don't think the meeting/vote this past weekend was legal. This is real sloppy....I smell subpoenas in the air. Why would you accuse someone of stealing without any proof. Looks like a small group just put rocks in their socks and some folks should really know better - having legal backgrounds and all. Now on to the list of candidates - T. Bell - nice guy, too green. One club owner in particular, let's call him the ringleader will have him wrapped around his finger simply stroking his ego. Hint hint Mr. Bell. But that's the motive here. Mr. Hinton, yes he's been around boxing a long time but this is the same person who is the franchise owner of the silver gloves who NEVER provides even a hamburger let alone travel help for the boxers who travel to represent his team after he makes money from his shows in DC/GA/NC - ALL the proceeds go into his pocket. How about the 3 empty rooms in GA that nobody knows about or the $5000 Tom M used to give you. Just ask for a finance report if you think it's not true. Oops I forgot, he doesn't do one. But he wants to be president. And Juice - talk about pimping the kids and using your position as weighmaster at an advantage, he sales VHS tapes, yep VHS not DVDS for $22 a bout - you heard me 1 fight not the entire show and he constantly tell boxers they need to shave so he can sale them razors for $1 a piece. All that money goes in his pockets!!!! You clowns kill me. Get a job. Don't get me wrong, everyone is entitiled to their own oppinion - but if you really asked EVERY club owner how they felt they would not have made this move right before the regional tournaments. Some of you really need to open your eyes and see what is really going on. Now since I got your attention - the phone threats need to stop!!!! You know who you are and I know you are reading this. With that being said you now know who I am....check mate!!!
ReplyDeleteOnly one person there was accused of stealing. The person accused could not have stole anything from PVA if she wanted to. The person who accused her of stealing, didn't count anyway. He was just saying stupid shit like always.
ReplyDeletesells tapes-not sales tapes.
ReplyDeleteWho is acting president at this moment?
ReplyDeleteAnthony Bell Sr. and J. Hinton are conducting bussiness until June 5th. 2010
ReplyDeleteAt that time a new vote will be done for a completely new board.
ReplyDeleteThe question is: Will things change? Hopefully so, but I would not bet on it.
I made the initial comment about
ReplyDeleteJuice because I thought it to be funny.
You need somebody running the show who is honest and who looks out for the safety of all the young boys and girls who are boxing in and out of PVA.
A quick story about Juice.
I had a young boxer who had approximatley 10 fights as a junior and was 16 years old and we had come to the Ray Leonard
center to try to get a fight on one of Juices shows. When I asked him to match us with somebody comparable he replied Sure.We were getting into the ring when I noticed who he had matched us with.
Forget the guys name but he was a veteran of 285 fights from Philadelphia.Needless to say I quickly put an end to the game.
You can really count on Mr Gatlin
to keep things on an even keel.
YEAH RIGHT.
Won't ever forget that shit Juice.
Your buddy from VA.
hahaha, let the games begin. i'm sure there are more juice stories out there.....hahahahaha!
ReplyDeleteI love New York-I love Juice
ReplyDeleteI think the attacks on Mr. Hinton and Juice are off base and don't have anything to do with them running the PVA. Mr. Hinton runs the silver gloves which is a junior tournament, no money is given out to any junior's, as bad as that is its like that all over the country. Money is only given to open boxers and the Pva takes care of that. But I know personally that Mr. Hinton has given money to boxers and also given up free hotel rooms all you had to do was ask and he would come through in most cases. Juice has his side business but he knows the amatuer boxing business, you always have to check the matchmakers, but that has nothing to do with him running the PVA
ReplyDeleteYou my friend are in error!
ReplyDeleteIt has nothing to do with running the PVA if you want the same ol
same ol.Juice like so many other people don't really care about the safety of the young people as much as he cares about making a dollar off of the shows that he does or taking care of his buddies fighters in the busniess
when they need a win.Somebody needs to be in the position of authority that can look after the well being of the youth in our area.
We needs someone with leadership skills and someone that is respected in the community.
Signed
Jarmel Thompson

ReplyDeleteGrown adults acting like 12 year olds. Listen to yourselfs. You will never find Mr.Bell in such foolish conversation. I have spoken to Mr. Bell on several occasions concerning this matter.
ReplyDeleteHe has even received telephone calls advising him that he was not permitted to run for president. How low will one go? Needless to say, he knew all along that was a bold face lie in attempt to discourage him from taking over.
Mr. We need Mr. Bell, we need leadership. We need to recognize Washington DC. We need to be seperate in the Silver Gloves. We need the Mayor's Cup to be a top recognized tournament again. It was PVA who ruined the Mayor's Cup.
Mr. Bell's boxing gym is located in Washington DC and he will bring boxing back to the most important city on the face of earth. Needless to say, Sgt. Gillon a former amateur boxer will stand right beside Mr. Bell to the very end.
Juice for President??? Thats a freaking joke! He's always been a yes man and will look to profit off the kids. $22 for one fight and making kids shave with his cheap $1 razors. even kid that don't have hair on the face..lol. What a joke!
ReplyDeleteMr. Bell doesn't know enough to be the president. Too green and will not do better than what already in place.
This whole process was done at a very bad time and wasn't done with
the kids best interest at hand. There are two major tournaments coming up and we are in limbo.
Get your facts str8! BIC messed up the Mayor's Cup when DCPR gave it to them!!! If I recall correctly, Mr. Bell has been running the Mayor's Cup........hmmmm. Since he's the new found savior, he couldn't straighten out the Mayor's Cup? But you expect him to lead an LBC? Where were all you when he needed you to support the tournament he was hosting and trying to salvage. You weren't there because you don't believe in sticking together, only on selfish agendas. Plus you knew there was money given to BIC that stayed in their pockets and not to the tournament. It's been going on for years. Gotta love yall even when you don't want to tell the truth. Yall jokers don't even support Mr. Bell's club shows. Plus on another note, the Washington DC Commission is trying to mandate an additional fee for all registered amateur boxers in DC! The DC Commission has been responsible for pushing boxing into MD with the unnecessary dabbling into the amateurs. Yall must of forgot!!! More like your dumb asses didn't know, like always. Silver Gloves separated? Don't hold your breath - you'll NEVER witness it. Take it to the high court if you'd like. There was even an attempt to get a new Washington DC Golden Gloves, nice try, that will never happend either...
ReplyDeleteMy Goodness!
ReplyDeleteOKAY, STOP AND EVERYONE TAKE A STEP BACK . FIRST YOU HAVE TO THANK GARY WILLIAMS FOR GIVING PEOPLE A CHANCE TO VOICE THEIR OPINIONS ON THIS SITE. NEXT YOU MUST ASK YOURSELF IF YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THINGS TO HELP THE YOUTH OF THIS BOXING COMMUNITY TO MOVE FORWARD . YOU NEED AN INDEPENDENT PANEL OF PEOPLE INTERESTED IN HELPING THE YOUTH TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEMS WITH THE PVA AND RECOMMEND TO THEM WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE AND WHO SHOULD LEAD THEM . THE COMMENT ABOUT THE DC COMMISSION IS ON THE MONEY. THE GOLDEN GLOVES IS SUCCESSFUL BECAUSE OF A LOT OF FOOTWORK AND BOXERS, COACHES AND OFFICALS WORKING TOGETHER . EVERYONE WHO WENT TO THE NATIONALS WILL TELL YOU HOW GREAT THINGS WENT. GET YOURSELFS TOGETHER AND LEARN SOMETHING FROM THIS .OUR PRO TEAMS ARE HAVING TROUBLE BRINGING CHAMPIONSHIPS TO THE CITY BUT OUR BOXERS AND COACHES IN THE AMATEUR GOLDEN GLOVES, JUNIORS, SILVER AND WOMEN KEEP BRINGING CHAMPIONSHIPS HOME. WE NEED TO GET THE COMMUNITY, BUSINESSES AND MEDIA INVOLVED .SO WAKE UP AND LET'S GET TOGETHER AND MAKE THE FUTURE FOR AMATEUR BOXING IN THE WASHINGTON AREA THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY . WE ALL KNOW WE HAVE SOME OF THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY .
ReplyDeleteI want to thank the last poster for that comment. To tell the truth, I was somewhat afraid to put this story on the blog because I thought people were going to say that I was throwing people's business out into the street.
ReplyDeleteI am very happy to see some pretty intelligent dialogue result from this situation. I hope it does continue!
key words, working together. this operation to turn the organization upside down was not about working together. there was a select few who had an agenda who convinced a few more folks to get in with the cause or con - unaware and now sorry they even attended the carnival in the first place because they though they were helping. now they are even more confused because comments that are made are always one sided. i thought this was volunteer work - you know a person who offers to perform or offer services voluntarily. this is about a power struggle. but they always want to say it's about the kids. i just hope whoever sent this to Gary in the first place continue to update with developments as they come forward. Since they thought it was of the best interest to put in on the internet anyway. Not mad with Gary, he's just reporting what is giving to him. Just wondered what the real motive was.
ReplyDeleteThe motive was wrong. It was sent to make fun of people, to show how they were not doing the job correctly. To replace people on the board because of personal feelings. However, you are just as bad or even worse. You continue to
ReplyDeletebad mouth and tell lies instead of trying to make everyone work together. You cannot even help yourself with a few daily comments.
According to most invloved, you too wanted a change. Perhaps people went about things in the wrong manner, but everyone thinks and responds differently. If all truly cared about the association, they would stop the childish bickering and make a difference without blaming others. Two wrongs will never make a right!
It's funny how we can get this topic posted quickly but we couldn't post the results of the USA's and JO's tournament last month.
ReplyDeleteJuice...Juice....Juice....Lol
ReplyDeleteI 100% agree with the last comment.
ReplyDeleteI smell a sore loser and a miserable person. Are you not the person that was accused of stealing? One comment even stated that you could have not done such if you wanted too. Why must you keep whining? Like the comment said: Stop wasting your time on here and make a damn difference.
Choose a president and vote, if they win help them. No need to say such and such is too green. We all started somewhere.
Can't we all just get along?
ReplyDeleteOne of the reasons why the USA results were not available is because no one involved with the event sent me any results. I can't make every amateur event and that was never an issue before!
ReplyDeleteMayor Barry for President!
ReplyDeleteMayor Fenty is the man now. Fenty for PVA President!
ReplyDeleteGary is right! No one sent him the info. Again, they were not doing thier job correctly.
ReplyDeleteNow that's what I'm talking about!
ReplyDeleteWe need Tony Bell!
ReplyDeleteHinton and Juice are terrible choices! First of all Hinton gonna get Mr Bell down south with them good 'ole boys and suggest that n***a needs his n*ts cut off! Juice on the other hand needs as much money as he can get for his kids christmas fund! Video taps and candy bars just ain't cutting it. Now far as the rules goes, they only know them so they can break and bend them to suit there needs. The truth of the matter is, rules are made to be broken! Hinton and Juice are firm believers of this method!
ReplyDeleteDiana Hall has now been mentioned several times for president. Actually, she it not a bad choice. She handles professional boxers and does a great job running a local boxing rec in Palmer Park Md.
ReplyDeleteWow! every 1 wants to 2 B important.
ReplyDeleteWho is next Rick Bolding? Juice?
Power trip-is all it is. U 2 Bell, I c what is happening.
isn't it amazing how many comments a negative subject gets.
ReplyDeleteI will tell you this: I'm on the pro side, not the amateurs. But when I've dealt with Hinton and Juice, everything went smoothly, and they both appeared to be good guys and gentlemen. Both Juice and Hinton helped me out of jams for last second fights and they didn't get greedy like a lot of guys do at the last second when some people really take advantage of you and try to squeeze you for every penny they can. I think those guys are all right.
ReplyDeleteyou must be one of juice's regular customers of the vhs tapes. He must give a discount
ReplyDeleteNope, never got a tape from Juice (although he did try to sell me one). And that's okay, he was just trying to make a buck. Juice is okay and so is Hinton. I have seen nothing in their character or behavior that would show me they are bad guys. And believe me, I see a lot of people that are involved in boxing in the beltway area that are terrible guys, can't be trusted, and are real pieces of garbage. But I think Juice and Hinton are two guys that are in the good guys locker room. Just my opinion.
ReplyDeletewould you mind point out who the bad guys are? I just want to make sure im not one of them
ReplyDeleteYou may just be, but you may be a good guy too. All depends on your point of view.
ReplyDeleteNow that's what I'm talking about!
