This Friday's nationally-televised bout between undefeated Brandywine, MD heavyweight Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell and Johnnie White has been moved from El Paso, TX to the Isleta Resort and Casino in Albuquerque, NM. The bout will be carried by ESPN2.
The bout was moved because the scheduled main event boxer and El Paso favorite, Antonio Escalante, was knocked off the card because of injury. Mitchell's bout will still be the co-feature bout on this card.
The main event has a bit of a Beltway tie-in. Undefeated Cuban light heavyweight prospect Yordanis Despaigne (5-0, four KO's) will face veteran and former light heavyweight contender Richard "The Destroyer" Hall (29-7, 27 KO's), who was once managed by DC Boxing Hall of Famer JD Brown. To stretch the tie-in further, Despaigne's last bout came against Beltway veteran Demetrius Davis on February 5 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Despaigne scored a third-round TKO.
The card is now also a co-promotion that brings together two former world champions turned promoters: Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions and Romero Promotions, headed by former flyweight and junior bantamweight champ Danny Romero.
