In case you haven't put it all together, tomorrow night is going to be a big Beltway Boxing night with three events in three different locations. Since I haven't figured out how to clone myself yet, I will only be at one event. Barring technology issues, here's how BATB plans to cover this big night.
I will be blogging live from the Regional Golden Gloves at the Waldorf Jaycees Community Center in Waldorf, MD. I will also be keeping tabs on Tony Thompson's bout against Owen Beck on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights from Memphis, TN. That program will begin at 10 PM ET. If I get a result from that bout or the non-televised undercard bout that features Gary Russell, Jr. I will pass that along as I blog from Waldorf.
Meanwhile, Alec Kohut of MaxBoxing.com has generously consented to report from the card at the Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury, MD that will feature Fernando and Alex Guerrero, Dominic Wade and Ty Barnett. Fernando Guerrero's bout against Michael Walker will headline the ShoBox telecast on Showtime that is scheduled to begin at 11 PM ET. I should be able to get the early undercard results from Alec and be able to post those while in Waldorf. Alec will also do a BATB Post-Fight Wrap-Up from Salisbury following that card.
Hope you are looking forward to this big night!
Great job Gary, keep up the good work
ReplyDeletePeople are sleeping on that Owen Beck Vs. Tony Thompson fight like it won't be good. Whoever wins, gets a big jump in their career. Win this fight and put together a couple of other nice victories behind it and you fighting for a title.
ReplyDeleteGary, you are the best!
ReplyDeleteThank you!

What are your views on Tony Thompson, Gary??
ReplyDeleteTony Thompson may still be the best American heavyweight out there. As Teddy Atlas said, because Thompson started boxing late, he doesn't have a lot of wear and tear on his body.
ReplyDeleteHe's only been stopped once -- that was against Wladimir Klitschko and he did have a bad knee at the time. Thompson has had back-to-back nice victories against Chazz Witherspoon and Owen Beck. Nobody else seems to want to fight him at this point. I think he has one more title run in him and it will be a very interesting story if he can get another title shot.
I hope so! If he gets a shot at the Klitschkos, he better stick with Wladimir. Vitali is the tougher of the two. I thought for sure that Tony was going to win their first fight. Maybe he was legitimately injured.
ReplyDeleteTony just seems so slow and uncoordinated to me. If he faces a fighter who really throws them hands loosely, he would be damn near murdered personally. Only thing in his favor is his height but against most heavyweights whom are also tall, that doesn't matter.
