Jason Bell impressed me and should have had his hand raised at the end. Coaches did an outstanding job with this kid and I hope to see him boxing again next week.
Thanks to both boxers for an excellent fight to start off the night. At first it looked like Duke (Daquan) might not have that difficult of a fight. It very quickly became apparent that Jason and D-Block came to fight. Props to Jason Bell and the Coaches at D-Block. Congratulations to Daquan Love for not only winning the 2009 Silver Gloves Championship but now becoming the 2010 Golden Gloves Champion.
My memory may be a little foggy (no suprise there) but if I am not mistaken Daquan went to the top of his brackets and defeated the person he faced. At the time a few boxers changed weight classes, did not show or something like that. On DC Amatuer Boxing I see that Lamont Roach won the Silver Gloves in the 12-13 106lb division. I certainly don't want to take anything away from Lamont. I do not ever remember Daquan boxing Lamont Roach. I looked but I can't find them fighting on video. I may actually be confusing the Silver Gloves Tournament with another Tournament all together. In any event can you fault a Coach for trying give his Boxer some love?
D-Block should have got the decision. A standing 8 count only counts as one punch.

ReplyDeleteMy bad. I figured it out. Daquan won the 2009 13-14 119lb Junior Olympic Championship at Rosecroft. As I get older it all kinda blurrs together.
