Beltway Boxing Starts The Decade Early!

The first three months of Beltway Boxing 2010 will be very interesting with some big bouts -- home and away -- already lined up.

First, some local news. I neglected to mention that there will be a female bout on the Saturday, January 16 Baltimore Pro Boxing card at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD. Locals Tori Nelson and Renee Gross will make their pro debuts against one another on that card.

And you saw it here first: BATB has learned that Great Falls, VA junior middleweight Jimmy Lange (31-3-2, 22 KO's) will make the second defense of his WBC USNBC Junior Middleweight title against "The White Tiger" Chase Shields of Houston, TX (29-3-1, 14 KO's) on Saturday, March 6 at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA. This will be Lange's ninth straight bout at the Patriot Center. Seven of the nine bouts have been regional title contests.

On the out-of-town Beltway schedule:

DC Middleweight Antonio Walls (2-2, one KO) is slated to be at the Arena in Philadelphia, PA on Friday, January 15 for a four-round bout against undefeated Derrick Webster (3-0, two KO's) of Glassboro, NJ.

Baltimore junior middleweight Ishmail "The Arsenal" Arvin (15-1-4, seven KO's) will take on Pawal Wolak (25-1, 17 KO's) in an eight-round bout on Saturday, January 23 in Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Undefeated Salisbury, MD middleweight Fernando Guerrero (17-0, 14 KO's) will face Jesus "El Martillo" Gonzales of Phoenix, AZ (24-1, 13 KO's) in a nationally-televised (ESPN2) 10-round main event contest on Friday, February 19 at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, OH.

On Saturday, February 20, Baltimore welterweight Tim "Pit Bull" Coleman (17-1-1, four KO's) will face former WBO Junior Welterweight champion Kendall "Rated R" Holt of Paterson, NJ (25-3, 13 KO's) in a 12-round IBF Title Eliminator bout that will be televised by Fox Sports Espanol. No word yet on where that bout will be.

Berlin, MD middleweight "The Berlin Bomber" Joshua Snyder (8-4-1, three KO's) will take on veteran Wilmington, DE boxer Clarence "Sonny Bono" Taylor (14-23-4, seven KO's) in an eight-round co-feature bout on Friday, February 26 at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino in Dover, DE.

Also on Friday, February 26 at the Arena in Philadelphia, PA, Laurel, MD junior middleweight Norman "The Shadow" Allen (6-3, three KO's) will face Ardrick Butler of Philadelphia (4-1, one KO) in a six-round co-feature.

On Saturday, February 27 at the Roadway Inn in Allentown, PA, Baltimore heavyweight Bernard "Bad Ass" Brown (6-5-2, three KO's) returns to action after a year's absence and will take on Reading, PA's Travis "GW Hope" Kaufmann of Reading, PA (18-1, 15 KO's).

Of course, all of these bouts are subject to change without notice, but right now, it will be a very interesting time for Beltway Boxing Fans!

  2. is jimmy ever gonna fight anybody real. i hate to jump all over a fighter but he is content to just fight bums with no hope of winning and sucking the fans dry of their money. He seems like a decent guy and im happy hes making a living but give me a break already and fight someone good.

  3. Jimmy Lange is fighting a top-flight opponent.

  4. I've seen Lange's opponent fight in Texas. He is legit.

  5. yea sure he is. hes fought nothing but bums. he was knocked out by a bum with a record of 6-26. chase has only beaten 5 people with a winning record. and their records were usually 5-4 or 6-5. best guys record he beat was 10-3. so dont go around telling me this guy is good.

  6. Jimmy's being smart. To say Chase Shields is legit is absurd.
If you get ko'd by Vance Garvey you aren't legit. I wish Jimmy well he is being really smart, kudos to Team Lange. But Shields will get stopped inside 4

  7. I seen Chase Shields fight Cliff English in Houston. English was 10-3 at the time. Best fight I seen in 5 years. Shields knocked out English in 5. Shields is legit -- I seen it with my own 2 eyes. Shields played Division I college football. He's in great shape, athletic and powerful. Take it from me -- Shields ain't no softie.

  8. he might not be a "softie" but he definitely aint hard.

  9. Let's at least be honest.
Shields is rated 283rd in the world.
This is another meaningless fight as the boxing world goes.
Does anyone really believe the Jimmy Lange is actually working towards becoming a legitimate contender.

  10. Why is everybody that Jimmy is a real contender always posting under "Anonymous"??
    Just wondering

  11. I'm trying to change my profile...this is a test.
I want my real name to appear.

  12. Did you bother to look at Cliif English's crdentials?
    A. he is my age
    B. he fought an array of fruit peddlers in Texas
C.when he stepped up to fight a guy 6-22 he lost.

Also Chase looks good, he is athletic, he has a nice record, I can't deny any of that.

I haven't knocked Lange on this at all. He is being real smart. Jimmy is a cash cow in this area and after his last fight I have all the respect in this world for him.

I am saying is that Chase Shields is as soft as a shoeful of puppy poop.

  13. im pretty sure Jimmy would fight chavez jr. anytime as long as its not in mexico and hes not on drugs. Im also pretty sure he would love to fight any 154 pounder as long as some things were ironed out( like the fact hes a cash cow in the beltway area) . i think he would also move up to 160 if certain pieces fell into place..... Look, people are always gonna hate on guys more popular then they are..

  14. Not hating on Jimmy one bit I am hating on Chase Shields

  15. im pretty sure Jimmy would fight chavez jr.

I would have to agree with you on your statements, getting the pieces to fall in place is always the hard part.

  16. Brian who would you suggest Jimmy fight, Shields looks like a good opponent a mirror of Jimmy they are about the same size, similar records.I heard you say Jimmys team is smart, well in this game I think you have to be smart to make any money.

  17. Perhaps some fringe contender or former champ on the back side of the hill. I mean if the goal is to get a big shot fight/pay day fighting guys like Chase Shields isn't gonna help the resume. His record is good and that's it.

JOHN DUDDY beating him won't have the same luster that it had in the past, but it woould be a good win. I would imagine though Duddy would be pricey. But the Irish folk would travel to see him and Patriot Center would easily sell out.

A fight with Jason Lehoullier would be a great fight for Jimmy with a fight like that he beats a guy who has fought some decent fighters,

Israel "Pito" Cardona fits the former champ (IBO) on the back side profile.

The Chavez jr. fight would be another good fight Jimmy can win with a guy who has some name recognition and can bolster the portfoilio.

Look team Lange has promoting in this are down to a science. Picking the right guys at the right time to fight. Jimmy has some skill, he is marketable, he got a ton of ball$ as he proved in the Reid fight.

The point I am trying to make is Chase Shields does ZERO for Jimmy's evolution.

One more thing any word on who is on the undercard? Last show had some good fights to watch. Looking forward to another ood night at the fights.

  18. Brian Dillion you are a smart BOXING guy, all of the fighters you suggested were considered for Jimmy we just couldn't come together to make a fight but you must be listening to my phone conversations.

  21. Shields has a good record, he will fight for the budget of the show, and Lange can beat him, that's why Lange is fighting Shields. Duddy and LeHoullier would be too much for the Langes, both in money and in the ring. Cardona would work for the show's budget but I bet his experience scares Johnny Lange. Jimmy wouldn't care, he'll fight anybody, but Johnny is the one that calls the shots. Lange will never fight anybody from the region that can have a few people in the arena for support. You can forget Lange ever fighting Nicklow, Rivera, Arvin, or anybody else from DC, MD, or VA. That's never going to happen. It's always going to be some guy with a good record that we've never heard of that will fight Lange. They know there is no sense in taking a tougher fight at The Patriot Center. They aren't worried about furthering Lange's career. They know what they've got and the know a mule, as valuable and hard working as he is in a farmer's stable of animals, could never win the Kentucky Derby.

    ReplyDelete
  22. heres a reason why lange will never fight Nicklow, Rivera , etc.. - why should he? they need him, he doesnt need them.. please they arent even close as far as boxing goes and you know it..see ya at the fight.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Any of those guys, Rivera, Nicklow, Arvin, or I betcha McCalla, Stevenson, and probably 4 or 5 other guys will fight and BEAT Jimmy Lange any day of the week. And you can take that arrogant attitude and shove it straight up your ass!

  24. A previous post about Jimmy Lange said:

"They know what they've got and they know a mule, as valuable and hard working as he is in a farmer's stable of animals, could never win the Kentucky Derby."

Well, Lange knows he's a mule too and he can't even come close to making it without going to Joey Gilbert's pharmacist! Don't believe me? Just look at his pictures from his fight with Houghtaling and all the fights before that fight. Then look at the pictures from his last fight with Jonathan Reid. Now you tell me if a 30 plus something guy who, although always in tremendous shape looked even worse than he fought (and he's a lousy fighter), can transform his body in to the Lange that fought Reid in his last fight? Take a look at the pics and you will see for yourself! And keep in mind that the Houghtaling fight and the Reid fight were only 4 months apart. You're lucky Virginia doesn't drug test.

    ReplyDelete
  25. dude that is a serious accusations, bordering on defamation of character.

I mean I will say some stuff about folks. I will be the first to admit I do and will, but to come out and say that is close to crossing the line

  26. Horseshit!!!!!!!!!! Look at all the shit thats been said about thousands on this site. This persons a crook that person ripped me off blah blah blah. Lang is much more muscled in those pics and I dont think any commission around here checks for the juice so even if hes on something how is that cheating.

    ReplyDelete
  27. i am sorry you are ill informed. virginia does test for banned supplements now. do not try to discredit someone like that. jimmy is a very talaented guy and he worls really hard. his last fight he lost the weight properly instead of just depleteing his body, so Joe hensley please stop trying to discredit jimmy!

  28. I did not make those comments about Jimmy Lange and I don't write a thing without signing my name to it. I have been openly critical of Lange's abilities in the past but I have always given him credit where it is due, and that's in the conditioning and toughness department. He's as tough as they come, always supremely conditioned, and has a more than a little bit of a mean streak in him. If you're going to fight Lange, and you fight the wrong fight, you're in for a tough night. Please do not throw my name out there without signing your name because I always sign mine.

    Thanks,

    Joe Hensley

P.S. - and for the record, Virginia recently started testing for HIV, Hep B, and Hep C but they do not test for any performance enhancing drugs. And that statement has nothing to do with Lange or any other professional fighter in the world, that's just a fact.

    ReplyDelete
  29. And I meant to add in my last post ...... you are the one who is ill informed.

    Thanks,

    Joe Hensley
