  1. Why is it called Fighting the Irish? It's not St Pat's day and it don't involve Irish boxers.
    Strange name for the card.

  2. You need to contact Wanda Bruce and get some ladies on that card.
She is the real Fight Lady and her girls are always exciting to watch.

  3. Actually, there will be some Irish-American boxers on the card. One, in fact will be a female -- Molly McConnell of Portland, OR who is 10-1, five KO's.

Seth Mitchell's scheduled opponent is Danny "Danny Boy" Batchelder of Phoenix, AZ (25-7-1, 12 KO's).

  4. Well, if Seth Mitchell fights Danny Batchelder that's a real fight! I saw Batchelder beating Lamon Brewster with EASE until he got hit with an overhand right and knocked out. Everyone thinks of Brewster's left hook, and Batchelder completely took it away, but Lamon still had enough power in his right hand to stop him with one punch. Seriously, Batchelder won the first 4 rounds of that fight and was winning the fifth when he got caught. If this fight happens then it's a real fight and if Seth wins he could be on his way. Batchelder also fought James Toney to a split decision last year. If this fight actually happens it will be very interesting.

And about the title of the show, Fighting The Irish, I'm a white guy and I'm not offended by it. But, if a white promoter put on a show and called it Fighting The Mandingos of Fighting The Dark Destroyers, I wonder how that would be received?

I personally think that when it's 2010 and we have Obama in the White House, and the majority of the people that voted for him were white by the way, that race should be de-emphasized completely and a title like Fighting The Irish, or Fighting The Mandingos (or whatever) should not even be considered when promoting a fight and selling tickets to a fight. I mean, do we really care if a white guy is fighting a black guy? And if you do care about something like that, you should check yourself for real. And, while I'm at it, I am an American. I am not an Italian-American or an Irish-American, or an African-American; I am an American. And speaking of African-Americans, what about the white people from South Africa, that live in America, are they African-Americans? Or how about black people that live in South America? Are they African-Americans? Race is an adjective, it's a way to describe someone. Somebody could be tall, they could be short, they can have blue eyes, brown eyes, green eyes, they can be fat, they can be skinny, they can be white, they can be black, etc. etc. You get my point (and thanks for indulging me by the way). The point is this (in my opinion) if you are born here, you are an American! If you want to say you're from a race, then say you're from the Human Race! And let's just leave references of race out of our boxing promotions, shall we? You can do what you want, but when you really think about it, is it the right thing to do?

  5. Thank you for a very well-thought out and very well-written comment. In the wake of the story involving the boxing promoter who wants to form an all-white American basketball league, that is truly food for thought!

  7. Haven't heard of this:

"In the wake of the story involving the boxing promoter who wants to form an all-white American basketball league, that is truly food for thought!"

And of course that is racist and something that will never happen. But it reminds of something I saw in a movie (can't remember which one) years ago that was pretty funny. A white guy goes to a party and discovers that he's the only white guy there, everyone else is black. He overhears a conversation of about 5 black guys talking about the greatest basketball player of all time. (and to the younger cats here who don't know all of these names, they are all white guys except for Dr. J) The first guy says "That Pistol Pete Maravich did things you couldn't even dream about doing." The second guy says, "Who would be better than Larry Bird to shoot the game winning 3 pointer as the clock was running down?" The 3rd guy says, "Have you seen Bob Cousy? Man, that guy was the greatest point guard of all time!" The 4th guy says, "John Havlicek might have been the best all around guy." And then the white guy chimes in "What about Dr. J?" And all the black guys say "He was good, but he had no middle game, couldn't shoot a 15 foot jump shot to save his life". And another guy says "all style and no substance!" Anyway, you get the point. Funny joke!

America has been called AmeriKKKA in the past, but let's put that in the past, where it belongs. There has been a terrible race problem in our past and, yes, unfortunately there are those ignorant and unenlightened people who are racists today and will always be racist. But let's just be better people than that. But, speaking of movies, and since this is a boxing forum, "What about Marciano?" "Oh, that's they one! That's they one! Every time I bring up boxing, white man gotta pull Rocky Marciano out they ass! Rocky Marciano! Rocky Marciano! Rocky was good but compared to Joe Louis, Rocky won't sh*t!" "He beat Joe Louis' as*." "Joe Louis was 145 years old when they fought!" -- Now I've got to go out and rent "Coming To America" (which, as most of you know, is where the barber shop scene above took place)!

  8. "Rocky Marciano!" - that was really funny. Thanks Anon! I just searched the clip on youtube!

  9. as far as race goes on your comments, boxing follows poverty,or in the same boxing follows immigration,1900's successful fighters irish, jewish, italian through the 40's until the 60's,then we saw the blacks emerge, after that we saw the latinos in USA on in the US,whats next, the fall of the wall, then we saw eastern european fighters coming to prominence, next up is cuba, boxers and baseball players
,maybe its not race maybe its economics

  11. The Card is still going to take place so guy's cut the small talk and lets talk about the fight or the fighters.

  12. From a white guy, I don't find the card's name offensive. "Irish" is a nationality, not a race. Is most everyone white over there? Yeah sure, but who cares. It's not called Fighting the White Guys form Ireland! Not to mention, my man Tony Jeter willl be fighting the Irish & last time I checked, he's white.

Come together people. God luck Cassandra.

Good luck to our local boys (regardless of their color!). Kick some Irish ass!
    lol

  13. Hey, what about the "Black Irish?" -- I'm just saying here. Weren't they Irish folks mixed up with the Moores from Nothern Africa? The name of the card was meant to be cute, "Fightin' Irish" "Fightin' The Irish" -- kind of snappy.

  14. Exactly. People shouldn't be so hyper sensitive.

  16. There's nothing wrong with having a conversation on race especially since boxing has always been on the forefront of racial issues. It's good to see people on this thread disgreeing without being disrespectful.
